As soon as the lifts closed, it began to snow. From that point on, the snow fell very heavily. Driving was slow
and visibility was reduced as vehicles made tracks on the roads
that plows could not keep up with.
Good News about Bad Weather.
Leading up to that...
The snow, surfaces, and almost glitch free conditions, continued to be on the
North and as we rode up the Expo Quad we heard that there was "ice" on
some of the South Side runs. McCulloch was sited as a specific example,
so we decided to go for a run there to verify. There was some ice on McCulloch, but that was not the whole story, so
here is what else we found...
The icy bits were between the moguls, in the center where the traffic wear
and wind work together to reveal it. Basically, there was enough mechanical
action between wind and wear to go through the recent new snow and get down
to the old base.
But that's not all, and here's the main point to take away from our McCulloch
field test...
There was some good snow on the right side, very close to the packer ridge,
and under the TGV Quad chair, but on the extreme Left side of McCulloch
there was a band of the softest, malleable snow that had kind of drifted
there throughout the day. It was aprox 5 or 6 meters across, and it ran
the whole length of the pitch running parallel to the TGV that you can see
in the pic. above.
It was great. As a matter of fact, it may have been
the "surprise du jour".
So then, in conclusion, we think it's a bit unfair
to say that a any run's just icy when there are portions
that are not icy and quite the opposite.
If you find icy bits in the centre (of any run), think outside the box and
go to the edges to see if there's good surface on either side. This is very
easy to do by simply extending your traverse's out to both sides of any
given run for a couple of turns to see if there's an area for better grip.
On a trail the width of McCulloch, it is quite possible, even likely, that you will
find different conditions from side to side.
You can't expect to get much taking pic's through plate glass windows,
so there's some reflection you can see, but it's not that bad, so here's
what you get to look at when having lunch at the Summit. It may not
have been as pretty a day as yesterday, but there was still excellent
conditions within all skill level rated trails. ----------End of Apres Ski ------------------------

Trail and Grooming status, courtesy of
http://www.tremblant.ca Yesterday was perhaps the best day of the season, so far anyway.
Exceptional high quality surfaces that are the result of several days
of focused hard work by the Tremblant Mountain Crews.
After the big snowfall and colder temps that essentially restored
"winter" overnight, it took Crews a couple of days just to physically
cover all the Groomed areas a few times to really compress all the
new snow into the base.
Their hard work generated a superb level of remarkably fine groomed
trails that are an absolute delight to carve turns on because of the
complete confidence that you have in really leaning into your turns
without the fear of loss of traction.
There are maybe some very small glitches here and there, but nothing
to speak of and certainly nothing to complain about.
Tremblant is simply beautiful to Ski or Board on and on top of that,
simply beautiful to look out from, or look at, as the views are nothing
less than what they use to create "Post Cards".
Whether you're looking near...
or if you're looking far...
the scenery at Tremblant is always spectacular.
At last run, as the soft warm rays of the setting sun cast long
shadows across Lac Tremblant in the distance, one can not help but
feel the awesome majesty of Mother Natures magnificent beauty. Links:
