4/6/11 Conditions

Post by T360 »

43(*) Open Trails on South and North sides of Tremblant.

Fairly big reduction in open trails today that may be a
reflection of the "progressives" that were on the list
yesterday. The overnight -5C at the South Base and the
resultant -9C or so that that would have occurred at the
Summit are not helping right now due to the daytime
"+C's" that softened things up in sectors yesterday,
creating icy conditions that may have been outside the
evening Grooming possible. If the base holds up, we would
hope that there may be more open during the weekend.

That does not mean that there will not be great Skiing/Boarding
today though, because there will be.

Look closely at this sample as it is exactly what you should
find on Devils River this morning according to the Official
Grooming list. Definitely worth every effort you can make to get out
today to enjoy what's open.

You may have to explore the open terrain to locate the best lines
for your skill level, but as is the case every spring, we do lose
trails due to weather factors beyond the control of human efforts.

When you dial up the Web Cams and you find this picture, you just
know you you have a great basis to start your "Best Line" search!

The possibility exists that the Open Trails could increase during the day,
so checking the Official Snow report or, if you're on the Mountain, keeping
an eye out for the Patrol opening things up, is what you need to do.

Here's a Web Cam Snap Shot showing the North Base and as you can see
there's no evidence of thermal lost of surface, so when the temps do
rise to the "plus" side to soften things up, there will be sweet spring
skiing and boarding!

Today' weather starts out at -5C and may just break the zero mark
with moderate westerly winds that will be coming up the Taschereau sector
and moving across the summit toward Lowell Thomas. It should be
sunny all day and the temps are forecasted to drop back to -11C.

The Tremblant360 Rules of Spring Skiing/Boarding:

Spring Rule #1
The true believers are always thankful for whatever
they can Ski or Board.

Spring Rule #2
There will always be great Skiing and Boarding
somewhere within all skill levels of the open
terrain at Tremblant, the Mountain Crews take
care of that.

Spring Rule#3
Every Spring Ski day is to be cherished and is worth
the effort. It's a long time 'till late next November.

Conditions Caveat:

A) "Best Results" are always obtained with properly tuned
equipment that includes good edges and base wax or coating
appropriate for the temperature ranges encountered.

B) There will always be hazards within the open terrain,
such as may exist due to; being uncovered during daily
use, and or located in areas intentionally not groomed,
such as designated mogul runs/zones, and/or weather
conditions that are not controllable, for example.

C) That matching ideal terrain to any users skill level
is a very individual choice made by the user and it is
therefore up to the user to cautiously explore the open
terrain to locate conditions best suited to their skills.

Bottom line, "use your head" with highly
variable Spring Conditions... don't "get in over your
head" and risk injury. Stay safe, and have fun in
terrain you can maintain complete control in. Use
caution with speed at all times and explore at slow
speed to verify safe passage before ripping around.
