4/4/11 Conditions

Post by T360 »

69(*) Open Trails on the Very Fine slopes of Tremblant.

You have a choice:

Go Skiing, go Boarding now...

or wait 'till late November.

Choose Now!

Today and tomorrow could possibly be rainy, snowy or both.
In any event, it's the first grey day in quite a while, but the good
news so far is that it's still dry here right now, no rain, yet.

With temperatures already above the forecasted high at +4C,
there's a huge bonus... shade. Snow melts quicker at any "plus"
temps when there's brilliant sun, so the overcast shade can stay
as long as it does not rain. This will help extend both coverage
and quality. It's always such a bittersweet time of year, finishing
up our favorite season on one hand, and moving toward our other
favorite season on the other hand, but the transition is never
without a little sadness. There's nothing quite the same in summer
that matches the unique characteristics of Skiing.

Spring thaw is inevitable, so we're happy for every single day we
get now at any level, let alone the remarkably high quality we have
this Spring 2011.

There will be excellent Spring Skiing and Boarding with all skill level
rated terrain today. If you have tuned edges, the grip and control will be
high level. With the temps up where they are, you will want to have your
skis or board waxed or coated for these mild temperatures in order to
break whatever suction may be created by surface moisture.

Conditions Caveat:
For this late season time, there are very few glitches or hazards, but you
need to keep an eye out anyway, just in case. Explore carefully before ripping
around. Additional warmth will mean more chance of hazards due to thaw,
so use your head with speed until you verify safety.

We're looking forward to the return of the sun which is forecasted for
Wednesday. Going back through the last weeks pic's we realized just
how great the weather's been recently, sunny virtually every day,
right up to yesterday. That's not to say we haven't had some cloud,
but its just not been anything other than bright.

Cloud, but no rain!
Up until today, this was as close as we got to rain all last week. This view
facing North at the base of the TGV shows just how close it may have come,
but surprisingly, it never happened.

Here's a neat pic taken on the lower sector of Sissy Schuss at the end of
last week. The sky is quite dramatic with layers of cloud that will be
spanning as much as 30,000 feet.

This week will have comparatively light traffic, so the mid-week
days will be an excellent training/exercise days. Doing laps this week
will help put you into great "Beach" shape! Going Spring Skiing/Boarding
at Tremblant now is a good excuse to burn up some calories while you
shred up exhilarating runs by the multiple.

If you can make it out to Tremblant for any of the remaining
days, you will be rewarded with unusually fine Spring conditions,
not to mention all the Resort ambiance and the magnificent
Tremblant scenery.

Mid-Day Up-Date:

Some wet precipitation at South Base, but nothing excessive.

The summit is not getting rain, maybe mixed snow/freezing pellets
but not rain as you can see by the roof of the Patrol H/Q. If it was rain
this roof would not be white.

The North seems to be escaping any damage. Please note ongoing presence
of snow on Expo Control Station roof. Any significant, sustained heat or rain
would melt that off fairly quickly.

Please also note that South Side Base temps have fallen back to +1C,
so Summit will typically be correspondingly 4 to 5C Colder. Great news
for holding on to all the great open terrain this week.

Get your plans sorted out and make sure you can get here.
