Apres Season, Apres Ski... Sunday, April 17th, 2011.

The passage of the Ski/Board season into "History" is no less than very
similar to saying goodbye to your best friend that you won't get to see
for about 7 months.

We suspect it never gets any easier for the truly passionate Alpine Winter
Snow Sports participants. Even though there's always the prospect of
"Next Season", it's difficult to let this one go, particularly when we ended
it with such spectacular, full coverages and surface conditions.

A week ago today, friends of Tremblant that could be here, were gathering
on all points of the Mountain to say farewell to the season and what a great
way to do it with very fine Skiing and Boarding comparing to good
mid-winter, let alone closing day. We've got more to add, including the "Surprise du Jour" Toboggan on
Soliel, which we'll do in another reply attached below, later on.

In the mean-time, don't hesitate to look back at your days at Tremblant

Sorry to report the Ski Season has Officially
been declared over. It was worth a shot though
and regardless, we are eternally grateful for
a beautiful, super high quality season!

some of the evidence.

2010/2011 Winter Season at Tremblant.

Sunny, Sunny, then some more Sunny.

If you could be here, then why, oh why would you miss this? The Tremblant Info. Crews, identified by their distinctive "?"
uniforms, are always on duty to assist in providing helpful
knowledge on all things Tremblant!

If you are here, you're probably not reading this yet because
the coffee's on, the car's warming up, or friends are stopping
by to pick you up, you're waiting for the first shuttle to the
Cabriolet, you've just put some "warm" Swix or Toko wax
on skis or board, or any number of other things that need to
be done before heading off for the last Officially scheduled
day of this wonderful season we've had at Tremblant.

In the mean-time, as in all through the night, people like our
friend Claude, pictured here behind the controls of the BR 350
Groomer/Packer, have been doing their usual excellent job of
re-surfacing all the "Checked" trails on the Official Trail and
Grooming Downloadable pdf. status report. Here's what you get today...
and there's literally miles and miles of it. One more sample, just to refresh your memory... If we never wrote a single word about the physical properties of these
immaculate morning surfaces, any experienced Skier/Boarder
would instantly recognize the quality this and other pic's document.
Every morning since Opening day, surfaces just like this
have been available within the groomed inventory and our
sincere thanks and appreciation go out to the Mountain
Operations Staff that work so diligently to consistently
deliver these outstanding results.

This unique, high quality presentation, day in and day out, sometimes
facing the tremendously overwhelming forces of Mother Nature that
make it challenging, represent the heart of the Tremblant Alpine
experience. Not every day is perfect, not every trail can be perfect,
but there's always great skiing or boarding within the Open terrain at
Tremblant, and providing that you've got properly tuned equipment and
the skills to match your run selections, it is almost impossible to have a
bad day on this Mountain.

Thank you Tremblant for a most excellent season.


Subject to Confirmation, on this coming Wednesday at 3:00 P.M.
Tremblant will announce the Opening of select terrain for the 16th
and 17th of April weekend that will be accessible on the South Side
Via the "Flying Mile" and "TGV" detachable, High Speed Quad Chair
lifts.

This additional extension of the season is dependent on weather and
logistical factors that need to be assessed several days from now, much
closer to the actual time, so at this stage, it is a very strong possibility
and if Mother Nature co-operates, it should happen as planned.

Apres Season Apres Ski...

Skiing was actually quite nice if you have bases properly prepared with
a hydrophobic wax or coating to help reduce resistance of higher
moisture content snow.

Coverage was excellent right up to last run, however, there are some
spots showing through near lower base elevations.

No rain until about 4:15 P.M. and then local drizzle mostly that you would pass in/out of.

Took tons of pic's and will need to sort through them over next few days/weeks
and will add herein as time permits.

Most excellent season of high quality surfaces right from beginning.

As usual, in our opinion, Tremblant rules.
Tremblant Patrol, out on Patrol... As amateur photographers, we must apologize for the use of rapid
deployment "Automatic" camera settings, particularly necessary when
one is without their glasses for reading and camera has very small LCD
icon displays. It seems as though these "automatic" settings are greatly
challenged by the extremely high contrast between dark forest colours
and the reflected intensity of Sunlight on a white Alpine Ski Run. The final
outcome can have sort of a "Special Effects" look to it, so we're putting it in
anyway, because some of the colour tones are interesting.

By the time we got to the North Park after lunch, the sky was already
closing in. At that stage, it was not raining, but the dark background
sky really makes the neon colours pop.

The distant hills in the far scenery of the North Park add
a simple but effective depth of field effect. Geared Up For Last Run... Seeya Next Season!

------------ April 12th, 2011 ------- Additional Apres Season, Apres Ski.

"Will There Be More Skiing/Boarding???"

Firstly, in our opinion, it is a good possibility based on these 2 sample
pictures. The first is Upper Nansen, taken at 4:15 Sunday, April 10th, 2011,
the second is taken trail-side, mid-point, Lowell Thomas at 3:30 P.M.
Sunday, April 10th. (Please Note: Tremblant has stated that if possible, the bonus weekend time
will be on the South, so you may ask why we used a North pic above. The
answer is that it is the best illustration of "Drifting" that happened on
all sides of Tremblant's Summit in the various snowstorms of Feb/March that
were packed into the base. We are simply trying to show how much snow
there is in places up there, or was packed into the base, regardless of side.)

Please Note: we very carefully use the word "Possibility" above,
because there are many factors other than the simple presence of
snow in places back on Sunday, that could influence the potential
of bonus Skiing/Boarding that Tremblant will announce tomorrow
for next weekend.

Some of these factors could include, but are not limited to:

How much rain fell?
How long did it fall?
Where did it fall?
North?, South? Top? Bottom?
How warm did it get?
How much Base is left?
Will it be safe?
Are the good surfaces easily accessible?
Etc., Etc., Etc.

Obviously, it is a complex assessment that the Tremblant
Mountain Operations Staff will be very carefully making.
Regardless of the outcome, we sincerely appreciate the
fact that they are working on it, and that the "possibility" exists!

This page is under construction and will be added to
as our time permits, but as far as the additional Ski Season
potential weekend opening, Wed. @ 3:00 p.m., is the
appointed hour Tremblant has set for the answer.

Sorry for all the delay in adding to this record, but with the season Officially
over and tons of post season chores and commitments, it's taken a while to
catch up.

Closing day conditions were expected to be great on the South and North, and they were.
For example, setting aside the "Progressive" or gradual opening status of North side trails,
how many times can anyone remember the North being 100% open on the last Official day?
Not that many, we think. We can't tell you how many of the "progressives" cleared during the
course of the day because we simply could not get to all the runs individually, but that does not
diminish the outstanding quality we had everywhere we went anyway.

We're awarding the "Surprise du Jour" to Soleil, and more specifically to Toboggan though, as
it was in great shape and at least in our opinion, better than Saturday by a fair bit, probably due to
the overnight cool-off and the fact that the sun's intensity was less than we might have expected.

When we got to Toboggan it was almost last run on Soleil, well after lunch, and it was just
kind of a "Farewell" run to say we'd been there, but it turned out to be very nice indeed, a very
pleasant surprise, so we're giving it a feature here for that reason.
Typical of our amateur photography, this pic shows some shortcomings in
definition which we feel is due to the challenges of such hugely contrasted
elements as white snow fields, dark forest and "grey" light conditions, but
non-the-less, the point is very clear... There's ton's of Snow!
No "Brown-Outs" here Toboggan Fans!


We have adjusted the highlights and colour settings to try to illustrate the
Snow Quality, so if things look a bit "blue", that's because we want to show
the Snow with the best possible detail. Right from the summit down, Toboggan's trademark swoops and contours
were a hoot to ride. There was the odd "damp" spot, but generally speaking
there was good edging and "shred-ability" all the way down.


We were able to pull more surface detail out in this pic., so you can see
a bit more. This was still great skiing and fairly "fast" too. Please Note
that when we say "fast", we had our boards waxed for the temps., also,
the sky was not that dark but contrasting the pic. to see the snow detail
makes it look that way. Working down, Toboggan showed very little loss of condition,
but there was the odd soft spot. While it may look like high moisture content, it was actually
a crisper sort of "corn" snow that skied quite well. Even the bottom pitches and plateaus had great coverage and
look at the snow in the bush, it was very evident that the coverage
was primarily natural.
We've still got more pic's to sort through, so they'll be additions
later on both Soliel's run-outs and other Tremblant Closing day
conditions.
