Lance Armstrong @ Tremblant for Tour de Lance !

Post by T360 »

August 25th, 2011.
Updates for the 2011 edition
of the Cedars Cancer Institute Tour de Tremblant.
Sept. 9th, 10th,11th, 2011.

Unfortunate news to report for those who were looking forward to
a repeat of last years kick-off at Le Circuit with Lance, Phil and all the
excitement that only a global icon like Lance could generate...

Lance will not be in attendance at this years event in Tremblant,
however he will attend in Montreal, along with Phil, in a discussion
format relating to his experience as a cancer patient and survivor.

Furthermore, the event at Tremblant has been re-named and Lance's
name is no longer attached.

Sad to say, but it was great while it lasted and we'll be keeping
our fingers crossed that it could return. Anyone who attended last
year knows that it was nothing short of magically impressive.

Of course, the validity of the cause remains, so we're hoping the event
can maintain momentum for the sake of the medical need that is real
and urgent. Please continue to support Cedars and this fundraiser.

More news as it becomes available....

Please note: review all links attached below for current Official
Cedars and Tremblant 24 Hr info.

Updates for the 2011 edition
of the Cedars Cancer Institute Tour de Lance.
Sept. 9th, 10th,11th, 2011.

The Cedars Tour de Lance website has received an extensive redesign
since June and the new layout is clean, crisp and has easily accessible
features that contain lots of relevant info.

We have provided a link below, in our last update, that is to the
orig. address that now contains the new pages.

Please take a few moments to review their content as there is
important info for participants, spectators, donation supporters
as well as general public information.

A link to the home page for the 24Hour event is
also attached below as part of our last update.

We think one of the main points here is that it is
easier than ever to become involved in the fundraising efforts with
the 24Hour event. The minimum pledge requirement for individuals is
easily achievable and the teams do not need to be huge, so
anyone with a passion for the cause and a bit of time to organize
can make things happen.

Stay tuned for further updates.

June 15th, 2011 Updates for the 2011 edition of
the Cedars Cancer Institute "Tour de Lance"
Sept. 9th, 10th, 11th, 2011 .

Cedars Cancer Institues "Tour de Lance"
website has been changed and upgraded.

It appears as though the site is still being developed.
At the time of this update there is info from the previous site
that has not yet been transferred, but the new site looks very much
more refined and we're sure that over time the content will be
rounded out and added to.

Link to new Cedars Website provided below.

There are several significant enhancements
to this year's 24Hour Velo event being held in conjunction
with the Tour de Lance.

Here are some highlights. We are not putting these in any particular
order, they are all important and you should refer to the links to the
Official site's for complete details, but just to give you a quick look....

Firstly, and because it is an excellent example of a functional improvement
that will make a huge difference to participants, we are very pleased to see
that for this year, riders will have the entire track in its full length, lighted
for the night-time portion of the event.

Ride On, Tremblant!

Last year's first edition had a shorter loop of the track lit for night-time,
so lighting up the whole track for this year will mean a much improved
experience for riders that will now be able to go through the dark hours
with the benefit of the full course distance to pace themselves with.

Secondly, there are additional and new charitable beneficiaries to this years
event as follows:

The 24h announces its newest beneficiary,
‘Le Grand Défi Pierre Lavoie’

‘Le Grand Défi Pierre Lavoie’ was recently welcomed by the
24h of cycling as its 3rd beneficiary. Part of the proceeds
generated by the event’s 2nd edition on September 9th-11th
will be donated to the programs supported by Grand Défi Pierre
Lavoie, a nonprofit organization with a mission to encourage
young people throughout Quebec to adopt healthy lifestyle
habits and to continue their education.

Thirdly, there have been substantial changes to the 24hour website
in both function and content and we encourage everyone involved as
either supporters or participants to review those changes an familiarize
themselves with the appropriate sections.

October 28th, 2010 Update:

Worth The Wait.

Viewer/Participant Notes:
Anyone who has ever attempted to make a video knows just
how much time and effort goes into the quality of the finished
production.

Our video for the Tour de Lance has taken many weeks of preparation
to get it just right, but we feel it was worth the wait because the message
that Lance Armstrong has is so important
that it deserves the best effort
we can make. For sure, if our producer Chris could have set aside everything else
like work and life's regular commitments to pursue Tremblant and bike hobbies, then
we might have gotten it here a wee bit sooner, but such is not the case, so
here we are now, with our H/D video presentation of the Tour de Lance
and the 24 Hour Velo Fundraiser.

Please also note the following:
1) Our video is available in different formats to allow viewers quality/speed options
for convenience and suitability to older computers. Explore and choose the one that's
right for you, but for best results, let your computer download the best quality, then
play/view.
2) The brand new 24 Hour Velo shares its proceeds with Cedars and the Tremblant Foundation 24 Hour Ski/Board fundraiser that takes place in December every year.
3) This years 24 Hour Ski/Board event is scheduled for Dec. 10, 11, 12, 2010.

Tremblant's 24h of Cycling – 1st edition!

We are proud to present Tremblant's 24h of Cycling, a new event which follows suit to the highly popular 24h of Skiing. This event is a participation event with the ultimate goal to raise funds to support the Cedars Cancer Institute and the Tremblant Foundation.

The Cedars Tour de Lance and the 24h of Cycling are joining forces this year in the fight against cancer. Lance Armstrong, 7-time Tour de France champion, and the world's foremost cancer advocate, is back in Tremblant for the 3rd year in a row and will be kicking off this inaugural event!

The concept of this event is to form teams of 6-12 participants, and compete in a relay format for 24 hours, in the style and spirit of the festive 24h of Skiing. There will be awards given out for the best performing team, most laps completed and also the Grand Prize will go to the team who has raised the most funds.

Participate in this 1st edition that will unite cycling fanatics and humanitarians in a very unique concept. The 24h of Cycling will be taking place on the scenic Circuit de Mont-Tremblant. This unique site will allow participants to ride in complete security, for 24 hours, all in the heart of the beautiful, scenic region of Mont-Tremblant.

OFFICIAL 2010 http://www.Tremblant.ca Press release:

July 28th, 2010
Lyne Bessette & Louis Bertrand: Proud ambassadors for the 24h of Cycling in Tremblant
Ride 24 hours for fun, for the challenge, for the cause!

Mont-Tremblant, July 29th, 2010 – Renown cyclists Lyne Bessette and Louis Bertrand become ambassadors for a brand new event in Tremblant, the 24h of Cycling, taking place on September 10th to the 12th at the Circuit Mont-Tremblant.

« I am very proud to be part of this very first edition of the 24h of Cycling. To ride in teams during 24 hours on a closed circuit for children’s causes is a great way for me to give back. I’m looking forward to this new event! » - Lyne Bessette

« I have participated in the Cedars Tour de Lance in 2009, and I really enjoyed the energy and the atmosphere surrounding this event without forgetting the noble cause it supports. It is with great enthusiasm that I have decided to get involved with the 24h of Cycling in Tremblant, 1st edition. With a very busy cycling season, as a commentator or a passionate cycling athlete, I couldn’t pass the opportunity to get involved in this accessible and festive popular 24-hour challenge. To have the opportunity to ride on such a safe site like The Circuit Mont-Tremblant, on perfectly paved asphalt, does not happen every day for a cyclist. I gladly accept the invitation of the organization to do my part, and ride a few laps to support the cause of children battling cancer. Hope to see you all there with your team » - Louis Bertrand

The 24h of Cycling will combine teams of 6 to 12 riders of all levels, for fun, for the challenge, for the cause by relaying each other during 24 hours on the prestigious Circuit Mont-Tremblant. All donations will go to the Cedar’s Cancer Institute and the Tremblant Foundation. In the participative category, the team that raises the most money will get the honours for this first edition and the team with the most completed laps on the 4.6km track will win in the performance category. As for Lance Armstrong, he will be doing an honour lap on September 11th with all the participants to kick off this event, and then will hit the streets of the region for his 100km Tour de Lance.

This weekend of cycling in the region of Mont-Tremblant presents an exciting program, a lively transition zone, a unique closed and secure road circuit, bike and industry kiosks, equipment demos, activities for the whole family, concerts and several other surprises.

The objective of this 24h of Cycling is not only the number of laps on the track but mostly the amount of funds raised that will make a difference!

To form a team now, to register and to participate in this 1st edition of the 24h of Cycling and to join Lance Armstrong in his fight against cancer, visit tremblant.ca/24h.

The Tremblant’s 24h of Cycling is presented in collaboration with Powerade Ion 4 & lmprimerie Artographe.

Lance Armstrong @ Tremblant for Tour de Lance !

Lance Armstrong represents one of the most positive, powerful and dramatic stories of athletic endeavors in the modern history of sport.

There is hardly a person on Earth that has not heard about the personal endurance and courage of Lance Armstrong in his years as a competitive cyclist and he serves as a wonderful example within the Human experience, to be the best that one can be.

Lances achievements in cycling alone would be enough to earn him the Global recognition that he has, but the way he has overcome his own personal health issues with cancer and gone on to build a World Wide fundraising effort for cancer research by applying his time and energy to that, at the same level of dedication that he shows in his cycling, is the remarkable testament to the difference that one person can make.

On September 11th, 2009, Lance Armstrong, together with up to 50 cyclists, will participate in the Tour de Lance at Tremblant for the second year. The Tour de Lance is is a fundraiser that Lance Armstrong personally supports the Cedars Cancer Institute in Montreal with. Each of the riders in the tour have undertaken a personal commitment to raise $25,000.00 dollars, so the Cedars Institute can continue on with its important efforts to find a cure. As a proud member of the World renowned McGill University Health Center, the Cedars Institute is on the leading edge of research and treatment, so the value of their work is vital to the health and future of all who are affected by this devastating disease.

We wish Lance and the Cedars Cancer Institute all the very best in their excellent efforts to raise funds to find a cure for cancer.

Here is a direct link to the Cedars Tour de Lance site and we hope to welcome a member of their team here soon to help build the "Big Picture" for now and the future.

Official Tour de Lance and Heroes Night at Casino Press Rele

Post by Megan from MUHC »

Armstrong Quebec Program Unveiled

Montreal, July 29, 2009—In congratulating him on his remarkable podium victory in the Tour de France, The Cedars Cancer Institute and the McGill University Health Centre announced today that Lance Armstrong will be participating in both the Cedars Tour de Lance and the Cedars Cancer Heroes Night during his visit to Quebec on September 10 and 11. His visit is in support of Cedars’ initiatives for the new McGill University Health Centre Comprehensive Cancer Centre at the Glen Campus.

“Over the past several weeks Lance showed his incredible strength of character, his determination and his courage, while putting his team ahead of his personal ambition. In so doing, he inspired all of us, from cyclists and cancer patients to all those striving to overcome personal challenges and hardships,” said Louise Courey Nadeau, Co-Chair of the Cedars Tour de Lance fundraising event, along with Leonard Schlemm and Roger Beauchemin. “The President of France was right in singling him out as a man with a real message for the world!”

“Lance’s Montreal connection goes even deeper,” continued Ms. Courey Nadeau. “We were touched that he took time out during the Tour to send a special message to our own Sarah Cook, a 17-year-old girl who had just learned that her cancer had come back for another fight.”

Cedars Tour de Lance
On September 11, a group of 50 cyclists will raise a minimum $25,000 each to have the opportunity to ride alongside Lance on the scenic roads of Mont-Tremblant. Forty participants have made the commitment and have been eagerly spreading the word and raising funds towards their goal. Several cancer survivors, including those under active treatment such as Terry Diab Peterfy, are involved in the initiative. Terry recently hosted the Ladies Who Laugh Lunch to raise funds for Bruce Hills, COO of the Just for Laughs Comedy Festival who is riding in her honour.

“I am overwhelmed by the generosity and spirit of our supporters,” says Terry Diab Peterfy. “When I explain to people that I am raising funds that will help cancer patients right here in the province of Quebec, alongside one of the greatest athletes of our time and the world’s foremost cancer advocate, they get excited. This is not only an incredible opportunity for the riders, for Cedars and the MUHC Cancer Care Mission; it is chance for the entire community to be a part of the inspiration that is Lance Armstrong.”

Cedars Cancer Heroes Night
On the evening of September 11th, Lance will be the guest of honour at the first Cedars Cancer Heroes Night at the new Casino de Mont-Tremblant, helping honour the courage and determination of local cancer heroes. Honourees include Jean Béliveau, Saku Koivu, Anthony and Alexia Calvillo, Kate McGarrigle and Sarah Cook. Entertainment is being provided generously by Rufus and Martha Wainwright and other special guests.

The goal of the Tour de Lance and The Cedars Cancer Heroes Night is to raise more than $1 million to help purchase the most advanced technology in the quest against cancer: a da Vinci Surgical Robotic System, a Digital Mammography Unit and an Intra-Operative MRI.

“We are privileged to have Lance’s support for the second consecutive year. His commitment to raising cancer awareness will help us secure the critical funds needed to ensure that the McGill University Health Centre remains at the forefront of cancer care, research and education,” said Dr. Arthur T. Porter, MUHC Director General and CEO. “The new equipment will be at the centre of our $150-million Comprehensive Cancer Centre at the Glen Campus. Construction is set to begin at the end of this year.”

The Cedars Cancer Institute and the McGill University Health Centre are grateful to their main sponsors for their generosity: the Casino de Mont-Tremblant, Club Mansfield, Loto-Québec and Evasion. The organizations also appreciate the generous support of the City of Mont-Tremblant, adjacent municipalities, the Sûreté du Québec, the Mont-Tremblant police, Intrawest and Hotel Quintessence.

Tickets to The Cedars Cancer Heroes Night are $1,500 each and are available online at www.tourdelance.ca or by calling 514-843-1606.

CEDARS CANCER INSTITUTE RAISES OVER $ 2 MILLION
FOR CANCER CARE AT THE MUHC
Montreal, September 20, 2009—The Cedars Cancer Institute announced today gross
revenues raised in excess of $2 million through the second annual Cedars Tour de Lance
cycling event, its inaugural Cedars Cancer Heroes Night with Lance Armstrong and
Friends and the 4th Annual Cedars Fuller Landau "Rain or Shine" Dragon Boat Race
and Festival. Net Proceeds will benefit the Cedars Cancer Institute and the Cancer Care
Mission of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) in the purchase of a da Vinci
Surgical Robotic System, a Digital Mammography unit for the Cedars Breast Clinic, an
intra-operative MRI for the Montreal Children’s Hospital and continued patient care through
Cedars CanSupport.
“The money raised by the Cedars last weekend will allow the McGill University Health
Centre to acquire three state-of-the-art pieces of equipment that will enhance our
institution’s capabilities to diagnose and treat patients whilst contributing to the worldclass
care, research and teaching that will be perpetuated through our Comprehensive
Cancer Centre on the Glen Campus,” stated the Hon. Arthur T. Porter, Director General
and CEO of the MUHC.
On Friday, September 11, Cedars Tour de Lance brought together 42 men and women who
were dedicated to the quest against cancer. These cyclists climbed onto their bicycles and hit
the road with Lance Armstrong for a 100-km ride of a lifetime after having raised a minimum
of $25,000 each for Cedars. Many raised well over the minimum amount. In fact, for the
second year in a row, Dr. David Fleiszer, a surgical oncologist at the McGill University
Health Centre, claimed the yellow jersey as the top fundraiser, bringing in just under
$80,000. The sun was shining on all that day, as Lance “twittered” his 2 million followers
and the world that he was in Quebec riding for Cedars.
Later that evening, 300 guests attended—the Cedars Cancer Heroes night with Lance
Armstrong and Friends —which took place in the stunning mountainside setting at the new
Casino de Mont Tremblant. The evening featured the singing talent of Star Académie’s
Marie-Élaine Thibert, Naturally Seven, the new a cappella sensation from New York; and
Rufus and Martha Wainwright along with their mother, folk singer Kate McGarrigle, who
was also one of the heroes being honoured that night for her goodwill and generosity towards
Cedars and the cancer patients of the MUHC.
Heroes Saku Koivu, Jean Béliveau, Alexia and Anthony Calvillo and Sarah Cook of the
Sarah Cook Fund were honoured along with Kate McGarrigle. Lance Armstrong himself,
who also delivered an awe-inspiring speech that brought attendees to their feet for a rousing
standing ovation, handed out awards. Roger Beauchemin, Louise Courey Nadeau , and
Leonard Schlemm, co-chaired the event, hosted by Mutsumi Takahashi, Sophie Gregoire
Trudeau, Caroline Rhea, Phil Liggett and Louis Bertrand who kept the mood lively from start
to finish. Cedars gratefully acknowledges sponsors: Casino de Mont Tremblant, Évasion and
the Mansfield Athletic Club, with strong support from Tremblant, Intrawest, Hotel
Quintessence and the over 3,600 donors and sponsors who brought the community together
to support the cause. An exciting live auction helped top off the fundraising effort, with gifts
donated by the Club de hockey Canadien, Cirque du Soleil, Gillett Entertainment Group,
artist Romero Britto, and the Livestrong Foundation.
“Whether you are a patient, a survivor, or a person who has suffered alongside a family
member or close friend battling this devastating disease, you know that cancer can be beaten
as long as the spirit to fight is alive. The spirit to fight was surely alive at this year’s Cedars
Tour de Lance! The support we received was incredible!” said Louise Courey Nadeau, event
co-chair.
“There is no doubt in my mind that the money raised and the countless people involved in
these events provided a major boost to The Best Care for Life Campaign, particularly in
light of the fact that we are heading towards our groundbreaking ceremony on the Glen
Campus before the end of the year,” said John A. Rae, Chairman of the MUHC’s The Best
Care for Life Campaign.
Cedars’ fundraising efforts didn’t stop there. On Saturday, September 12, the annual Cedars
Fuller Landau "Rain or Shine" Dragon Boat Race and Festival on the Lachine Canal
provided a beautiful finish to an exciting weekend. Over 800 people paddled their heart out,
united in spirit and in the cause. Olympic diver Alexandre Despatie as well as cancer survivor
and wife of Montreal Alouettes quarterback Anthony Calvillo, Alexia Calvillo, spoke to the
crowd of participants and spectators.
“It was a spectacular sight, and also very emotional. Events such as these, which bring
everyone together—especially patients, healthcare professionals and survivors—for a
common cause are so important in the fight against this terrible disease,” said Gwen Nacos,
Chair of the event and founder of Cedars CanSupport, whose mission is to provide
psychosocial support to both adult oncology inpatients and outpatients as well as their
families through all stages of treatment.
Cedars is grateful to the entire Quebec community who came together to make a
difference in the lives of cancer patients. This is testimony to Lance Armstrong’s motto
that “unity is strength, knowledge is power and attitude is everything.”

Hi Megan,

Thank You for all your efforts!

There is so much hard work that goes into a charitable community work of this size, let alone all the extra detail that would be necessary to accommodate public interest in a figure of Global Influence, such as Lance is.

It is a privilege to be able to share all related information on-line, and as well, we would welcome any on-line dialogue from the public on these forums.

We will post detail regarding Tremblant360.com video from the Tour de Lance (2009) in the immediate future.

Sincerely,

Hi Jc!

Thank You ever-so-much for your kind words!

Keeping this "All things Tremblant" diary/info. source
is a labour of love hobby, and a lot of times we feel
like "Jerry Maguire" we write the memos, but who's
reading them?? , so when we get a positive feedback,
it's a great boost. Thanks!

As Skiers, it's no secret our principle interest is the Winter
Ski Season, but we enjoy all the seasons and all the activities here
and as time goes by we hope that we can do a better job of
covering it all.

We also hope that as time goes by, others, such as yourself, will
feel encouraged to contribute to the archives of the Tremblant
experience within these pages.

One of the reasons for starting this project was that a "Google" search
for Tremblant gives you about a billion pages which are difficult to sort
through, so we're hoping that we can be useful, over time, as a single
source reference that can collect as much as possible for all those with
Tremblant interests present, past and future, throughout the region.

Of course that's a tall order, and it will take time, but so far, it's a lot
more interesting use of time than late night T.V.!

Sincere Thanks!

T360.
