Atmospheric conditions were foggy, soggy, but
Skiing was good anyway, and by just after lunch
somewhat improved, especially P'tit Bonheur which
for some unknown reason, became fast, grippy and
easier to see on.

Vision was the major functional factor all day. Goggles
got messy quick. We have a solution for that we
think, details in reply below, later on this evening.

You really needed a Descente Ponho, and if you're coming
on the weekend, which we encourage you to do, bring
yours as it may be handy. You will have good surfaces,
they may be damp, but they'll ski/board just fine.

Conditions...

We'll soon see.... There's been a lot of talk about
the weather getting warmer...

As all experienced Mountain users know, the 7 open
trails are not complete, full distance runs, they are
in some cases, portions of runs that are being used as links
to make two descent paths to two specific Chair Lifts, the TGV
on the South Side and Lowell Thomas on the North.
(You can click on the (*) below for our explanation, but
essentially, it's the law.)

Let's get back to the weather, back to yesterday....

Anyone that was here yesterday will have to acknowledge that
the Tremblant White Winter Wonderland Scenery was incredibly
beautiful. There were times when we were so "involved" with getting
our dormant Ski muscles back on-line that it was not completely
apparent until we stopped to take pic's. When you actually took a
moment to pause and observe... Wow, the views, in many cases
pure "Black and White" were remarkable.

It's almost hard to believe that shots like these two below aren't
black and white photography until you look closely to find the tiny
bits of colour that you need to hunt for to find. These were taken on
P'tit Bonheur, from just around the last crest/turn in the run. Look
carefully at the closest trail marker stakes on either side of the first
frame and you'll see the orange banding, practically speaking, the only
"colour" visible.

The skiing and boarding will be better today for at least 3 reasons:

1) Overnight grooming by Mountain crews
2) Additional traffic
3) Surface softening due to forecasted warmer temps.

The views may not be as dramatic if higher temps melt
the snow in the trees, but all skill levels, particularly beginners,
will find the surfaces much more forgiving and capable of
edge hold, with those higher temps to soften up not only the base,
but the mixed size loose granular top layer where it exists.

You need to explore the runs you're making in order to optimize
enjoyment. Several times yesterday we found that while there
may have been some "marbles" in one area, a few meters to
one side or the other, it was as smooth as satin. Don't get
locked in to one line, if you find a glitchy zone, try extending
your traverses to locate better sides or lines. When you're
moving around, don't forget to scan around for traffic that
might not be so good at stopping or steering around you.

Additional weather gear may be necessary if there is anything but fog.
Ski or Board Base waxing with a "warm" range Swix or Toko product
will enhance glide and help to keep speed if the snow's moisture content
goes up.

This point on the "warm" range base waxing will be particularly useful
for those planning a weekend Tremblant visit. Basically, we'll have a
couple of "Spring" Ski days if the projections are correct. The Skiing
and Boarding should be excellent due to the depth of the snowmaking
Mountain Crews have been able to put down.

We found Zero bare spots yesterday and we'd be surprised to find any
in the next few days based on the amounts that we see they have to work
with. It almost goes without saying, but anything can happen when
working with Mother Nature, so it is possible that glitches may be found
in surfaces, however, it is only day 2 of the new season and before
steady winter weather patterns become dominant, we need to be ready
for the variable weather challenges that any Ski Resort faces now.
At least we're Skiing and Boarding and we think we've got a lot to be
thankful for that the quality is as good as it is. We had a fine day yesterday,
and we expect to have the upcoming days just as fine.

Right now, the Summit is still holding snow in the trees as we can see
by the attached Web Cam pic., Will this change, probably. How soon will
it change? Ask Mother Nature, but until she shows us her answer, we'll
take another copy of yesterday anytime!

Things the wind can do...

It was the kind of day that can happen in the very early season
when winter weather hasn't been around long enough to put a lock
on pure winter coverages. The snow that was covering everything
yesterday has begun to soften, flow, then be re-shaped by the wind
as you can see above. This Fence Rail Sample is between LaCrete
and P'tit Bonheur, right at the summit.

Natures wind tunnel... and it really wasn't all that cold out either,
kind of a neat day filled with lots of interest, but on a close-up scale.

Temp swings are routine for this time of year and we have to deal
with it cheerfully, take it in stride and if necessary, do spring skiing
in November.

Many of the people that come out for early season are at the very
top of the Ski and Snowboard enthusiast group, the ones who talk about
skiing all summer. They are the focused students of the sport who will
brave any kind of weather to ski or board anything that is wide enough
to make turns on, that has a lift going to the top of it.

There were lots of us out there today. The weather was not ideal, but
that's never stopped us before, and won't stop us in future. We know how
to dress for "Damp" and not only that, we're even... "comfortable"...
You see us all over the mountain wearing Descente Pancho's when needed.

This is just about the worlds single best "Damp" weather piece of gear,
we've had them(for over 10 years anyway) in our family gear inventory,
and they have proven their value over and over on days like today.

So then, once you're comfortable, its time to ski and off we go.

Check around in the Resort Village, they're just under $100.00
and the one in my bag has had dozens if not hundreds of uses
and Still looks virtually new! One of the best pieces of ski gear I own
and on a "damp" day like today, or what they're talking about for the
weekend, it is the very best you can do to stay warm, comfy and Happy!!!

Oh, as promised, a quick trick to aid in the Vision/Goggle Dept. ...
Go to Canadian Tire, buy an inexpensive SYNTHETIC chamois,
then cut it up into 6 or 8 inch squares and either share with Friends/
Family, or keep 'em all, but in different jackets. A baggie to put your
Chamois in after use will help if you anticipate a lot of rain.

The Resort Village is starting to look very "Christmassy" as
there seem to be more and more decorations lit up.

Ha ha!

Couldn't hold the camera steady enough to get the exposure cleanly
with the natural light, so then I wondered about going the complete
oposite direction and pull the zoom during a long shutter to see
what the effect would be.

The actual thought was "Christmas Sparklers", you know, like those
fireworks things kids play with.

Anyway, the effect is oddly interesting, so when ya spend all day
with a camera, something different is fun for a while.
