A very good opening day with typical early season surfaces
of mixed fine granular over a firm base with some chunky bits.
You needed to pay attention to speed as the firm base was
resistant to braking in places, however fresh, natural overnight
snow enhanced the very fine work of Mountain Crews.

The North route held more consistent top to bottom qualities,
while the South route had more pronounced differences with
chunk size and some icy bits.

Nothing unmanageable what-so-ever, and overall, remarkably fine
carving within all open terrain.

We were just so thankful to be out there and if we had any
trouble at all we'd have to probably look inwardly and admit that no
matter how many leg presses we do in our fall gym preparations,
nothing can duplicate the real life demands of the Mountain.

The fine muscle skills that come back very quickly just need a day or two to
re-register.

The exercise was top level. There was plenty of good carving
and we were very thankful for the work we did with file and wax
on our skis. Edge-hold needed that sharpness and it payed off
with more than enough traction to get an excellent Quad workout!

The White Winter ambience of the completely natural snow covered
Mountain was like a "Fast Forward" to the realization of the first day
of the season we've been anticipating. Spectacular Black 'n White
scenery that you just had to be there for to appreciate.

More Later including the pic's!

7* Open Trails on the Official Opening Day Tremblant
Snow Report...

Could there be any sweeter words to the true
Tremblant fan than...

Skiing at Tremblant today!!!

Sure....

Boarding at Tremblant today!!!!

No matter what your Winter passion is, today is the first
day in 7 months you can say those precious words!

2 Major Descents Today...
Top Half, Both North and South sides,
return to Summit Via TGV High Speed Quad
on South and Lowell Thomas Triple on North.

Quotation From the Official Tremblant Snow Report:

"Tremblant is delighted to welcome the first skiers and
snowboarders of the season today! You will be able to
ski from the summit to mid-mountain on both South and
North sides. You will access the summit with the Gondola
on the South side only. The route (La Crête, Petit Bonheur
and Lower part of Beauchemin Haut) will lead you to The
Lowell Thomas chair on the North side. The other route
(Nansen Haut, Mi-chemin and lower part of Beauvallon Haut)
will take you to the TGV chair on the South side. The Magic
carpet Onésime will be open. Also, 3 features on the lower
part of Alpine via mi-chemin will be available. On behalf of
the Tremblant team, we all wish you a fantastic season!"

Statistically, compared to last year, opening day has almost double
the length and acreage, but Upper Nansen did open on day 2 last
year, so it evened out quite quickly then. This year, we're just that
one step ahead with both sides on line right from the beginning.

The weather today is definitely not sunny yet, but with the temps
floating around at between -9C and a projected high of +2, the overcast
is actually the best possible thing we could have to maintain
coverage. As nice as "sunny" might be, unless the temps are
well below freezing, we're happy to see it the way it is. Summit
temps should stay just below freezing and there is the occasional
snow flurry and pockets of snow fall floating around at ground level
here at St. Jovite this morning. Winds are projected to be moderate
and from the South-West, so they'll be breezing up the Beauvallon/Nansen
side, riding up the TGV, they'll be at your back, and coming up
Lowell Thomas, you probably won't notice much until quite close to the
summit. It's an easy early winter day.

Until we get up on the Mountain with our own eyes, cameras, skis etc.
the best indication of what we have can be found with the trusty
Tremblant.ca Web Cams.

We just love the Web Cams, even though the images are not DSLR
level, they non-the-less provide an extremely effective tool for
observation from which the experienced Tremblant Mountain User
can get loads of information.

Here are a couple of samples from this morning that tell us a great
story....

First, Snow In The Summit Trees.
Snow in the Summit trees signifies sub-zero ambient air temp
and ground accumulations of natural snow....
We'll take that!

Secondly.... A Family getting off the Lowell Thomas Triple Chair!
This is what it's all about. Getting out there and sharing the greatest
way to spend winter that any Tremblant fan could want!
Mum's, Dad's, Kid's, Family, Friends, and everyone else
who loves the magic of a winter day on the slopes of Tremblant!

There aren't many days when Apres Ski is as important as today
and ultimately that's what we're looking forward to reporting
on here later on, so with that in mind, it's time to sign off here,
feel the sweet discomfort of clamping down Boot buckles for the
first day of the season, snap into those bindings on the freshly tuned
Hot Rod Slalom Skis and go rip of a few thousand turns on all those
acres and acres of beautiful white snow that are calling out to us...

(Please note: at the time of this writing the South Side runs
are listed as "progressive" meaning that they are
scheduled to be open shortly by the Ski Patrol. We
would expect that to clear very early on.)

We'll have a major Apres Ski report
later on, so be sure to stop back in
for all the detail.

Lookin' forward to seeing YOU on the slopes!

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

GoTo: Winter Daily Reports, Index/Archive: http://tinyurl.com/yktelmu

When reviewing dates from any past, numbered, archived index pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)

It was a very wintery opening day, more so than usual.

Everyone knows that the weather can change in a heartbeat
in these early days of the season when the real depth of winter
has not yet arrived, but today, there was a very "Black and White"
winter ambience. Will it stay or not is the topic of much debate
and only time will tell. Today was all winter in "feel" though,
and we'd say, a great way to start off the season.

Above: Lower 3rd. of P'tit Bonheur. Take a look at the surface.
You can see there is fair amount of bite in the top layer.
This particular sector was one of the best surfaces to be found,
good carvability and decent glide.

Below: As good as it was there's a wee bit of ice marble's
that you can see a good sample of, just under the tip of
this riders board. It's not everywhere, additional daily
grooming as well as Mountain user traffic and more new snow
will diminish this.
