1/3/12 Tremblant Conditions

Prime Time Evening Apres Ski...
Firstly, our thanks to GaboRousseau for the reply posted below,
regarding Soleil. We appreciate the info and we respect the call
and support the decision because we're "safety first" kinda people.
We want to note that there will usually be some who may be critical
of a conservative risk management model, but if it was up to us,
we would take that criticism anytime if we thought there were any
potential safety concerns.
Nice to see that Soleil is Open again for tomorrow, at least "Progressively"
or on a gradual basis. We can only wait and see what the morning brings.
Moving on to the weather, this pesky cold snap seems to be hanging
in there for at least overnight. At one point earlier in the day, the
projections seemed as though it might be warmer, sooner, but that
has not been tonight's reality so far.
"They" all seem to think we are still headed up in the temps that now
may peak somewhere around -14C by 4:00P.M. tomorrow aft. We
should see partially sunny skies until around noon or so, and as the temps
rise, the clouds will build and we may get some more Snow!
This was from this morning, but you should see a similar
view 'till just before noon tomorrow morn.
The Skiing and Boarding will show increased levels of refinement
on the Groomed Terrain, on the un-groomed terrain, we recommend
that caution be used while carefully exploring for the first time
in any of those areas. This is still not Mid-February yet, so the
possibility of natural hazards exists. Any additional Snow will not only be
welcomed gratefully, but will add some more magic to already great
Alpine Skiing and Boarding everywhere at Tremblant.

Noon Update:
Two main items:
1) Soleil was taken off-line at around 10:30 A.M., so the total
open trail count goes down to 62. Reasons not yet provided,
but they would not do that without legitimate concerns.
2) Temps have settled at around -20 C but there is very little
wind, so with a lot of Solar Energy from the brilliant Sun, you'll
be able to catch some trailside rays and a bit of heat, no problem.
It should be up to minus 13C by tomorrow, after lunch.
Hardly enough wind to lift the Summit Flag... But Ton's 'O Sun! End of update.

66(*) Open Trails on the Not Quite As Nippy As Predicted
4 Sides of Tremblant.
The big story yesterday was how much colder it was supposed
to be this morning, but we're already at the forecasted high for the
day at 7:00 A.M., @ -19 C, so we think it's safe to say that we're
not going to see anywhere close to the potential low of -29 that
some weather models were showing for today.
On top of that, there's the Sun's solar energy to add in. That
contribution will be directly proportional to the wind speed though.
If it stays low like it is first thing here, you'll be able to catch
heat rays trailside, but if it picks up to the forecasted velocities,
you'll need to be bundled up tight. Whatever wind we do see, should
be Nor-West, so it'll be crossing the Summit from Nansen toward
Duncan. The Summit of the Lowell Thomas Chair ride may be a bit
cool. On the TGV, you should have both the Sun and Wind at your back.
The duration of this cold snap is being projected to last a bit longer
into tomorrow. So, we could be looking at a total of some 30 odd hours
of this cold floating around the minus 20 to minus 25 range, BUT, if
the actual pattern keeps up, that may well not occur. We think there's
a good chance the weather models are incorrect based on the differences
already occurring between forecast low and actual higher.
Cool as it may be, the Skiing and Boarding
are going to continue to be very fast on very
fine groomed surfaces.
Banzai and Marie-Claude Asselin are back
on the Open Trail list and here's why we think they are: This Web Cam pic overlooking the Lowell Thomas Summit before
heading off to the Mountain tells pretty much all we need to know
about conditions on the North. but if you need more....
When it looks like this on the Web Cam, here's
a sample of how it looks a few metres below the
Summit on Rope Tow, right below this Chair Lift. Cool, Crisp, Sunny Lowell Thomas Samples.
Tremblant has always been a great place to see the latest
styles in Alpine gear, Lot's 'o Colour, Loads 'o Fun!
