Hope to have some more Wallpaper Apres Ski for this extraordinary
day at Tremblant, before 10:00 P.M.

By now, everyone probably knows that the South was closed for the day
due to wind, so that's old news, but it never bothered us anyway,
because when we started skiing in the Snowy North Paradise, we knew
we were gonna stay there for the day....

Mid-Morning update..."Flying Mile" Quad Chair Off-Line Due To
Wind Loads. This is a safety call. Bundle up people, it's quite
gusty out here.

Snow Drifted Summit.
Some folks are going to look at this and say "What Snow Drifts?
It all looks Groomed to me..."

Look at the foreground. The deck rails are drifted in more than
half way up their height, almost to the top right in front of us,
and this has been happening all around and below the Summit.

No matter what the statistics say about the overall Snowfall Totals,
the "Blowing and Drifting" factor that we like to talk about, has definitely
deposited more depth in places than the record shows.

We ran a different angle of this scene in last night's Apres Ski
as our "Proof Of Snow" pic., but this angle reveals, at least on
a "micro" level what can be scaled up to the whole Mountain
in basic ways. Look at the tree stump in the lower right hand corner.

On the left of it, you can see a rising ramp of snow that peaks right
on top of it, to it's right, a low spot where the wind has moved it
away.

Part of the fun of Skiing/Boarding Tremblant right now
is the joy of discovery that awaits your exploration to reveal
the fine surfaces that these conditions generate.

Less than 10 Meters from our "Drifting" sample above,
you'll find this Open, Groomed Trail in all it's scenic splendour.

Conditions are Excellent on the groomed runs and depending
on your taste and skill sets, very "natural" on the un-groomed
runs, and at this stage, largely for "experts" only.

Today's Safety Caveat:

While there are many anxious to try Algonquin because it's new,
and they've heard so much about it, we urge you to be realistic
about your skills and preferences when you ski or board up to this
scene and find a "Green" Trail that's been marked as a "Black"
run. This "Black" assessment has been made by the Ski Patrol
after a close inspection of the terrain and they have found
Skiable, or Board-able conditions that require skills and experience
beyond the posted trail rating. Believe Them. Yesterday, we found
people trail-side on Algonquin who were having difficulty and
had evidently either underestimated their skills or ignored the
posted supplementary Trail signs.

Today's Weather:

To begin with and here at South Base Level, there's a lot of
gusty wind. The forecast says it should be from the East and
at moderate speed, but the sound we hear from outside tells
a different story.

At least the temps are fairly mild at -7C, rising maybe a couple of
degrees by afternoon, but if this wind is like this at the Summit,
you will still need to bundle up just to keep these pesky breezes
from peeling the heat away from you.

Definitely overcast, and on top of that there's an East Coast Regional
Winter Storm Warning as we get set to have some more snow arrive.
Places like Toronto, or Philly or Montreal could see sleety rainy snowy mix.
Tremblant should see nothing but Snow!

It could get even milder by one or two in the next day, which is not so bad
for potential Natural Snowfall, and then, over Friday night, a new front
comes in and the temps drop back down into the minus high 'teens celsius.

Bottom line on the weather is that it could get kinda' sloppy on the
roads to get here, but once here, you'll be rewarded with Fresh Snow!

T360, Prime Time 8:30 P.M. Apres Ski...

There will probably be some that complain about the South Off-Line
situation that was entirely due to very high winds. We would not know
about it though, we drove to the North anyway, before we knew the
South was closed and boy, we sure are glad we did that.

The Snow on the North was beautiful right from the beginning
so while we heard about all the "Drama" on the South, we'd already
made up our minds to stay North. You had to explore bit, but Beauchemin
and P'tit Bonheur were quite windblown, while Lowell Thomas, Duncan and all
down through the middle were great. There was very good carving on the
groomed like this example below.

A lot of the un-groomed were filling in already and being in the
shelter from the wind, they were soft and smooth.

Everywhere you looked it was simply a postcard dream.

Not long after lunch it began to snow again and that built up into
quite a volume, so by last run on the Expo Quad, there were
LoonieFlakes, big fat fluffy flakes falling quickly.

By Last Run off of Duncan, the snow was really coming down hard.

Mountain Crews had big safety responsibilities today,
but to them, that's all part of another day at the "office".

Not sure exactly what we'll find in the morning, but at this rate
of snowfall, it promises to be interesting.
