Very High Quality Early January Conditions.
Groomed Trails are Immaculate....
Un-groomed, Natural Snow only, are
showing glitches in centre, high wear
sectors.

New Run on Soleil Algonquin was "Open" but un-groomed
and marked "EXPERTS ONLY"... They are right about that.
A few gnarly bits..
.

Hope to have time for a Late Night expanded Apres Ski,
Will Post Notice Accordingly, if possible...

84 (*)Open Trails on all 4 white winter sides of Tremblant

There's so much Snow that the open trail count has shot up
by 10 in the last couple of days....

So, How much New Snow you ask???

Answer in a few seconds.....

Tremblant Proof of Snow.
Pic. taken less than 3 meters Trail-side P'tit Bonheur, below second turn.
This is real, this is now, and if you can be here, you should
try your damnedest to do so.... Tremblant is an absolute joy.

Words to describe the attributes of the surfaces here at Tremblant right now
would be difficult to find that could adequately convey the heavenly conditions
that the above picture tells in an instant.

Tremblant is an Alpine Snow Dream right now and if you're
lucky enough to wake up in this dreamworld then you know
what we mean, otherwise, get here as soon as you can and
find out for yourself.

Yesterday we talked very briefly about potentially slick or
icy areas and we only found 1 in all our travels which was a
20 meter or so windblown portion right at the top of Beauchemin
where the the airspeed over the surface had moved off the
loose snow to reveal the hard base, but that was the only one.
Other than that, nothing. It was all perfect. It does not mean that others
might not exist, but it does mean that if they do, they are insignificant
to the overall excellence of every surface you'll be on.

If it's impossible for you to be here right now, but you're planning
a near future Tremblant visit, what you can take from this is the comfort
of knowing that we have the foundation of a wonderful season here.

With continued stable winter weather, more snow from both Mother Nature
and the Tremblant Mountain Crews, it can do nothing but get better!

The Snow, the scenery and the superb preparation of all
the groomed surfaces is consistent on all 4 sides, and this
scene taken look back up towards the P'tit Bonheur, Beauchemin
intersection, just above the Lowell Thomas Triple Chair Base
is typical of what you find everywhere. Besides the gorgeous
ambience of the Snow-filled views, look at the quality of the
trail itself. This is all prime, beautiful stuff and there's literally
miles and miles of it.

EXPO SHOWS OPEN!

Not groomed either so it's "Big Bump" terrain features for at
least a day if that's all true...

Here's what it looked like at "Last Run" yesterday....

(We'll have lots more on that in today's Apres Ski)

Today's Weather:

Starts out at a nice brisk -19C and expected to move up to a mid-day
peak of -11C, parka weather, not for shells. Winds moderate and from the
East, so riding up the Duncan Quad Chair, it should be pretty much at
your back. Coming up on TGV, you may face into it a bit at the Summit,
but that should only be the last few meters and not a problem otherwise.
The overcast skies will be variable and the sun may peek through, maybe not.

These temps are going to keep the Snow nice and dry for great edge hold
and carving traction.

Potential "Wow-Pow-Alert"...
....as if all the existing news wasn't good enough...

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

GoTo: Archive, Search Reports by Date: Index: http://tinyurl.com/yktelmu

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If You  "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)

Late Night, Not Quite Mid-Night, Apres Ski... Under Construction...

Lowell Thomas, Trail #67 from the top of the Duncan Quad, Summit Off-Load Side:
Excellent right down to the La Traverse/Rigodon junction. The carving, utilizing the entire
width of the run for traverses, was reliable, fast and smooth.

Below that, there is a narrow entrance to the right on to Lowell Thomas Lower
and we must say that the posted "Experts Only" is entirely appropriate.
This is Natural Snow that is un-groomed and not all that deep in places
where the wind has been working on it to erode some of the depth.
There are a lot of irregular features that are not always visible in grey or
flat light, so we recommend extreme caution in this area.

Lowell Thomas Summary:

Top Portion to Rigodon or La Traverse.... Excellent.
One of the best, short, fall line pitches at Tremblant.
Tons of lateral grip and very fast.

Bottom portion... It's definitely doable, but you risk
danger with any high speed.

Moving on...

Even though it was "grey" a lot of the day, there was a bit of sun
from time to time, and there's definitely colour in the gear. This
in and out brightness from thin overcast helped to make
colours more vivid against the white background.

Snow on Soleil was good too, and you could see Soleil over Soleil
every once in a while... When it was overcast, the sky and the
clouds looked like they were boiling something up there...

The bottom was the difficult part, more irregular features
and some natural hazards, definitely for experts only.
There was a track there as you can see on the left of this pic.,
however it was narrow and required rapid turn and braking skills.
