a bit like what you might find in places
in Colorado.

"Weather Warning" for extreme Snowfall!

"Good" News about "Bad" Weather!

No matter how much snow is on the ground now, and there's lot's...
Tremblant Winter Fans will always be anxiously anticipating the
arrival of more, particularly when there is enough in the forecast
to justify Official "Warnings".

Not only does it mean that those with the skill sets that find
enjoyment in skiing or boarding deep snow will be overjoyed,
but for the Mountain, more snow means better base, additional
quality in surface preparation, and at some point in the way off
future, a season with extended open terrain in the months ahead.

Another Main Point About Todays Weather...

While we wait for the "Big Dump" that's supposed to start
this afternoon and carry on through the night, let's not forget....

IT'S 26 Degrees Celsius WARMER Now,
Than It Was 24 Hours Ago!!!

-7 C the morning is going to seem like a nice day in the park
compared to that nasty -33 C yesterday, so while there's the
anticipation of the big snow, we actually have a huge improvement
in "Easy" to enjoy, right this second.

Beauchemin has only gotten better with night-shift
grooming. It's impeccable surface is a joy to carve.

This sample is typical of all of Tremblant right now.

Perfect? They say that's impossible, and there are some
glitches and or icy patches that you have to watch out for on
some of the high wear, steeper pitches over crests, particularly
where the wind may have worked on them. "But", conditions are
generally excellent and you just need to use common sense
when exploring initially, use your head and try to see the
wear patterns that will help you to anticipate where to be careful.

Here's a Macro View of how Snow And Wind are shaping
the Mountain...

Due to the proportionally similar relief features
between Macro and Full Size, this could be
generally be scaled up for how snow lies on
Mountain in a lot of instances.

T360 Apres Ski...

All We Can Tell Ya Is There's A Lota' Snow Around.

The brightest things in sight at the Summit, or anywhere
on the Mountain for that matter... were the outfits...

Last Run was too early to know anything significant about what totals
might be. The bulk of this storm is predicted to be overnight.
There was accumulation happening on all sides, but Soleil
for example, was quite windblown and the ride up the Soleil Quad
was definitely "Brisk" from Wind Speed alone.

Toboggan did not have as much in the way of accumulated or
drifted, but it's surface condition was first rate.

The Temp's were not bad at all. When there was shelter from the wind,
it was easy to work with Camera settings using bare hands for several
minutes with no discomfort, if there was wind, that was reduced to seconds
where the velocities were highest.

Vision was a problem from time to time as the snow was being driven
into lenses creating a messy layer that required emergency Goggle
cleaning techniques a few times, but as the afternoon went by the temps
dropped a bit and that actually took the stickiness out of the snow, so
vision was O.K. by 2:45 or so.

The blowing snow was what we might call "Squall-Like" in the sense that
there seemed to be active areas and or periods of time when the density
was both greater and less, or when the wind had higher peak gusts.

As usual, the South Facing sectors that were pretty much head on into the
wind were showing more pronounced drift contours, where the more sheltered
North was filling in more evenly.

The wind was coming down Gagnon from the top of the Expo Quad
and it was blowing the snow out of the trees at this point...

.... but just a few meters away, we look at the other side of this trail
and you can see where the Packer/Groomer has cut away a deep
cross-section of a natural drift on the left hand side of this picture.
The carve-ability of these groomed snow surfaces is very clearly,
very fine. This surface quality is predominant all over Tremblant.

You Know Things Are Set To Change For Improvement When...

Banzai and Mary-Claude get groomed for the first time in the season.

Blowing, Swirling Snow... but you can still see the
beautifully wide results of the Groomer's work
on lower Banzai. Not even a mark on it today, so
with any amount of fresh, it will be even better.

If we do get even a portion of the forecast, the whole place will just go up
another level of "Fine".

If we get all of the forecasted... you might not hear from us for days....

Just kidding, but it would be phenomenal!

We heard a rumour that the Duncan High Speed Detachable Quad Chair
may be off-line tomorrow for recalibration of Timing functions that
have been responsible for some Operational glitches.

Last Run... Cruisin' Nansen Haut, Upper.

All in all, a fine day, easy temps, fresh snow and the prospect
of a lot more.

It should be an interesting morning.
