Apres Ski below in "Reply"....
-------------------------------------------------------

Preliminary Apres Ski @ 4:52 P.M.

It may have been foggy at the summit, but you could not
camouflage the fact that the Ski conditions are like Excellent
SPRING SKIING For a day!

What we might call "High Humidity" Snow.

Oh, and it was not raining, but it was a crystalline, frozen
sort of dry sleet. It was not wet.

More later as time permits....

95(*) Open Trails = 100% Tremblant.

Experienced Tremblant Mountain Ski/Board fans are going
to know exactly what follows these pictures. The next minutes
are going to be spent descending some of the finest Alpine

When you scroll this one below over--->>>, please note the "Shred Factor"
the Boarder shown on far screen right is getting. The Tremblant surfaces
have an abundant, and very recent natural snow component that has
been very carefully packed and groomed and has resulted in this beautiful
carving top layer that is super easy to execute navigational inputs on.

If you look closely at all the pic's posted here and in yesterdays
Apres Ski, you'll see that these surface characteristics are evident
on all sides of Tremblant today.

We put these big pictures in on purpose to allow the closest possible
examination of Tremblant's very fine conditions. Unfortunately, there
are no pictures that can adequately capture the realities of scope or the
feel of your Skis or Board gliding over these satin-like surfaces, so the
only way you can verify the impressions they bring you is to be on them
yourself. We hope you are going to be here today to do just that.

Above, Nansen, just below the main pitch, where you can go towards
the far right of this picture to take Mi-Chemin over to the TGV Quad
Chair Lift, or to descend further to the South Side Resort Base.
Like everywhere else, the traction on Nansen is excellent.

When there's no one around and it's safe to crest the pitch at speed, the
grip and lateral force that can be generated is nothing short of thrilling.
If you've got cambered Hi Performance Skis, you can get air on every
turn by simply recoiling off the stored energy in the Skis as they're arched
though the turn. You won't notice the "burn" in your quads 'til later!

If you're a Beginner or an Intermediate, Trails like Nansen and
P'tit Bonheur are absolutely Prime territory for practice and
skill refinements.

Speaking of "refinements" and "Nansen"...

Today's Weather ...

Who Knows???...

Weather forecasters are still not in agreement about
the "Thermal Burp" in plus temps we may get later today, so we'll
try to do more homework on that. Bottom line is that we may see
between 12 to 18 hours of a degree or two or three above freezing
with the possibility of rain. Bummer, man. Anyway, we can tell you
from experience when the wind is from the South like this at right around
the freezing mark there can be rain, but there can also be Snow due to
the higher Summit elevation.

Do not give up hope for a surprise snow event, particularly on the North!

More on this weather story later, but for right this second, it does not seem
as though the skiing today will be effected at all as temp's should not rise
above freezing until Apres Ski.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

GoTo: Archive, Search Reports by Date: Index: http://tinyurl.com/yktelmu

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If You  "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)

T360 1/23/12 Apres Ski and preliminary info. for 1/24/12

To begin with, anyone who may be concerned about the "thermal"/rain event we
are experiencing, does not need to worry about any near term consequences
to the Alpine terrain at Tremblant beyond the normal and typical adjustments
that go with these naturally occurring temperature swings within each and every
season.

There's too much snow on the ground, packed, groomed and very
well established as a secure high quality base, for a few hours of plus
one or two degrees C to effect it significantly.

There could be temporary surface iciness that may or may not occur in
places and Mountain Crews can compensate for any of those fairly quickly
with their grooming strategies.

We've just gotten spoiled and quite used to having the pristine, undisturbed fallen
snow here over the last weeks without interruption, so faced with completely
routine, and thankfully short, "January Thaw", it's quite understandable that
we see that as undesirable.

If you have complaints associated with the weather, take it up with Mother Nature,
otherwise we have to adapt, so we can think of it at least a couple or three ways...

1) We've had a great day here on Monday with a "One Day Sale" on "Spring Skiing",
or close to it, and the Skiing on Monday was of the very best calibre in traction
and almost flawless coverage on 95/95 trails Open.

2) We're going to have had an almost exactly 18 hour exposure to "plus" temps at the
South Resort Base, hovering within 2 degrees above freezing, most of which is going
to be at night, so with no solar multipliers, we should be back below freezing
by Tuesday morning.

3) Things could be a lot worse, some January thaws have gone for days or even a week
or more, so this is really short and we'll get over it and forget it very soon.

Back To Today....

It was pretty obvious riding up the Gondola that we were going to
be flying in the clouds, at least on the Summit today.

So it was no surprise that things were quite "thick" on the
Summit, but that cleared off fairly shortly, as you skied down.

All day long we experienced very fine carving conditions, regardless
of where we were. Oh, there was the odd glitch or slick zone, but those
were few and far between.

Tuned, Fresh Edges are always your best friend
on the Mountain, show them some attention for tomorrow
when the temps have dropped back down, you'll be glad you did!
