90(*) Open Trails on the "Bunch Of Fresh Snow"
4 sides of Tremblant!
Forget Orange Juice!...
Start Your Day with This "Eye Opener"!
10 Cm, or about 4 inches of Fresh Snow
will go a loooooooong way toward regenerating
a "Shreddable" surface layer.
We've been trying to think of an analogy for the base we've got and
a few come to mind, but none are quite complete so here's sort of a
hybrid composite... "3 foot thick plywood with a Down Duvet over it".
Good Grief! ...but when you think about it, all the snow we've gotten,
along with the odd bit of "Damp", has been compacted every single day
since opening and if you could cut into a cross-section with a chain saw,
you'd find that it would kinda' look like plywood with all the daily layers
that could be seen in plywood. Then we get more Snow! That's the
Down Duvet.
Whats important here is that the plywood is the really durable base,
but we need the Down Duvet to be the "Shreddable" layer so we have
a surface that will be soft enough to hold and edge when we want to
turn on it.
Part of Grooming is the Art of taking the Fresh Snow and bonding it to
the layers underneath with just the right amount of pressure so that it
stays in place, but so it stays soft enough for Ski or Board edges to
be able to grip on it without sliding or skidding out.
The ability to create this very refined surface quality is why Tremblant
Mountain Crews can deliver the best conditions in the Laurentian's and
perhaps arguably, anywhere on the East Coast of North America.
The Mountain Crews at Tremblant are at the very top of their peer group
and when you get here, you'll see exactly why.
Today's Weather....
Starts out Sunny, with gradual development of cloud cover
during the course of the day. Early temps at -10 C, and rising
to somewhere to around -2C. If it stays sunny, we'd be
concerned about solar thermal softening, but under cloud,
no problem. It's a really easy, excellent, Ski/Board day,
either way.
Conditions Caveat:
You've heard us say it before...
"As Fine As Things Are...."
They say "Perfect" is not possible. Use your head and caution
with regard to speed. There are going to be natural hazards
Slick, or Icy zones where either Wind or Traffic can remove
the loose top layer to reveal the solid base underneath and
the recent rain means that the solid base underneath may have
ice in places.
These glitches occur naturally and evolutionarily with Traffic
and Weather factors that change during Open hours.
Have fun, but explore carefully, and look for patterns
of surface change.... before you rip around.
Fresh Sharp Edges Essential For Maximum Utility.
