Perfect 4 Sides Of Tremblant!

While "perfect" may not be possible from a technical standpoint,
when it comes to the quintessential "Winter" day, today is going
to be pretty close.

The Official Tremblant.ca Snow Report shows 4CM, or 2 inches
of Fresh Snow...

With All Due Respect...

Forget that!

There's a lot more in places like the one shown above due to
the naturally occurring Orographic Snowfall and the wind induced
drifting that has taken place, primarily on Versant Nord, The North Side.

These accumulations above and beyond the simple stat's are
the icing on your Tremblant cake today, and every other day
this phenomenon occurs, about 15 or so times per season
we recon, on average.

Here are your first clues to a great day coming right up
at Tremblant. Immaculate Grooming detail being applied

One of the big reasons is yesterday...

While the "Stat's" show one thing....
it was snowing and drifting and snowing and piling up...
all day long....

Bad Attitude Board... Looking at the graphics on one of the
boards above, one can not escape the fact that this Board
has a "Bad Attitude". The reality, both yesterday and especially
today is quite the opposite! Everything is Excellent!

Todays Skiing And Boarding...

Generally, Excellent.

The past week has seen an overwhelmingly positive contribution
to already very fine conditions. Mountain Crews have been working
all day and all night to blend in blown and natural snow to the existing
base and that takes time, usually a day or two, to compact and
integrate after each natural snow event. In that regard, today is
better than yesterday, tomorrow will see improvements from today
and so on. The day after a "Snow Event", Beginners may even find
some of the "Green" trails a bit thick with deeper layers of surface,
but after a days traffic and another night of Grooming, compression
occurs that becomes very resilient, with a firmer, easier top layer for
steering, braking etc., yet remains soft for the entire day.

That's today.

Conditions and Equipment Caveats:

There may, can, and will probably be some glitches.
Those glitches may include, icy sectors on some of the
steeper pitches, or where the wind has worked
on wide open sections to expose a very firm or slick
base, or where daily traffic wears off looser top layers
to reveal the base. We did have "Thermal" and "Wet"
events earlier in the week, however they were fairly
short, time wise, so within the scope of seasonal
variations, we got away with comparatively little damage
which has been largely covered up with fresh, or broken up
and Groomed into blended soft top layers.

From time to time, we hear of complaints about Grooming
preferences, largely on Expert Terrain. Our best suggestion
is to call Tremblant's Customer Service 1-800 line, or if you're
on the Mountain, stop in at the Ski Patrol Summit H/Q and let
them know.

Sharp, Freshly tuned edges are your best friend whenever
there's exposed "Firm", "Slick", "Icy", or "Exposed Base"
in the surface conditions mix.

If you haven't had an edge/base tuneup recently, get one.

Overnight -12 C gives way quickly to the thermal energy of the sun
with a projected high of -7 C. We would not be surprised to see that
go a bit higher as the day matures.

The winds should be Moderate and Nor-Westerly, so they
will be coming up Nansen and across the Summit from there.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

GoTo: Archive, Search Reports by Date: Index: http://tinyurl.com/yktelmu

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If You  "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)

T360 Night Shift Apres Ski...

Very, Very Special Day...

Difficult to describe in terms of the sheer level of
personal enjoyment from the carving quality of
Tremblant's Groomed Snow Surfaces.

The ability to set an edge at about 45 degrees to the
surface, then stand on it with complete reliability as
you arch across the snow.

Centrifugal force defying turns that seems to automatically
propel you towards the next, and the next and the next and
on and on and on.

Miles and miles and miles of Tremblant Alpine Delight.

Some People Like Blondes, Others Prefer Brunette's...

For those that love Tremblant....

Skiing Tremblant today is just about as joyful as possible
for the human ski experience. Exaggeration you say...

Not really if you're a true Tremblant Ski enthusiast with an
appreciation for the pure exhilaration of a well controlled
Alpine descent that combines Skills, Thrills, Pristine Snow
Surfaces, Beautiful Views and all the resultant muscle strain
you feel later on.

It all add's up and tells you you've just had a day of remarkably
effective, invigorating exercise that you are actually far better for.

Below:
Enough of the philosophy... The Snow is really really fine...
This is as near as we can come with a photograph to capturing it,
but we have to warn you, pictures don't come close...

Looking at the foreground in the above picture shows as much as
possible of the light, dry, crystalline and light refracting characteristics
of the Natural Snow you get to Ski or Board on here at Tremblant.

There is definitely a perceptible difference in the snow as you travel
around the Mountain today too. It's not so much that it's better in
one place or another, although we may all have individual preferences,
it's just different.

There are some areas where the surface layers are thicker and take
a bit more technical skill to steer through, there are some areas where
the surface layers are thinner and very very fast.

Riding up the various lifts, fellow passengers are quite willing to express
their opinions about where they've found both enjoyment and challenge,
so we think it's safe to say that Tremblant literally has something for
everyone right now, because coming up South, Soleil, North and Edge,
there are people raving about each one over the others.

There were some common referrals to icy or slick sectors, but we already
talked about those and where they're most likely to occur, so no need to
inventory them. That would be difficult to do anyway because they not only
change day to day, they can and sometime do change during the day itself
as a result of traffic, sun and wind.

The main thing with the glitches is to learn through experience, careful
exploration and the observation of surface patterns, where to anticipate
potential problems, then avoid them by controlling speed, direction or
the technique you use to navigate them.

Some of the wind exposed South Side wide open trails showed
signs of icy base, and even P'tit Bonheur had one or two minor
slick spots, so those conditions were not restricted to just one side,
area or Trail, they occurred to one degree or another on all sides.

Bottom Line Is...

"Winter" can have a full range of conditions, from super easy,
right on up to super challenging. Match your skill levels to
Terrain selections and you'll have a fabulous day!
