3/4/12 Tremblant Conditions

Post by T360 »

T360 Apres Ski, Posted Below In "Reply"...
--------------------------------------------------------

Early Apres Ski Edit... @ 8:00 P.M.

Started Sunny... Ended up Snowing...

We'll have some pic's and detail later on...

Nice winter day, and great Skiing though...

---------------- 8:39 A.M. Orig. Post -----------------

94(*) Open Trails At Tremblant .... That's 1 short of 100%...

And the 1 short is Trail # 14 Zig-Zag, so we completely understand why...
at least we think we do....

We haven't been there, on the ground, to see it yet, but we
can tell you this...

Skiing La Crete from the Summit, passing the Dunzee, Grand Prix
entrance at 4:06 P.M. yesterday....

The Wind Was A Howling Banshee
That Could Peel You Like A Banana!

Absolutely Awesome Display Of Mother Natures
Unrelenting Power... we estimate that there were
peak wind gusts of over 100 KMPH...

Close your eyes and imagine...
Riding on the Nose of a 747 flying through a Blizzard...

That's how it felt...

Wow!!!!

So then, we think there's a pretty good chance that Zig-Zag
may have have "Issues" related to facing the wind for so many
hours, let alone the few seconds we could stand being there.

This is our current file shot of Zig-Zag, taken 3 weeks ago.
From Left to Right, the Trails pictured here are Grand Prix,
Zig-Zag, and Vertige, which is the short one with the moguls.

The neat thing about this pic as it is here today, is that contrary
to The Weather Network Cloud, Overcast, Snow icons actually
shown on their Data this morning, it is not any of those things...
it is brilliantly Sunny, just like this pic., and with the -13 c early temp,
feels like a perfect Mid-January day!

-----------------------------------
Conditions Caveat:

There may be multiple Slick, Icy, or naturally occurring
glitch zones caused by recent extreme weather factors.
This wil be particularly important on the South.
Use your head... and caution, with regard to speed and
navigation while exploring.

--------------------------------------

Today's Skiing, Boarding...

Versant Nord, the North Side will be the "Sweet Spot" Sector
today, in terms of general conditions, but there will be select, localized
"Sweet Spots" all over the Mountain created by the unpredictable
swirl factors of the wind over land contours on all 4 sides
of Tremblant.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

GoTo: Archive, Search Reports by Date: Index: http://tinyurl.com/yktelmu

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived index pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

( If You "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate, current to
25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by consecutive date.)

T360 Apres Ski @ 10:45 P.M.

What a day of contrasts....

Started out quite Sunny as shown above, but as you can see, there
was a bit of condensed cloud-like formation over the Summit and that
grew and grew until by 2:00 P.M., it had pretty much turned into solid
overcast and the Snowflakes started to appear. It wasn't too long before
it was snowing a fair amount, not as much as yesterday, but every little
bit helps, so welcome, just the same.

By Shortly After Lunch....

The cloud cover closed in and we were solidly overcast.
Temps seemed to be moving down, but that may have been
the loss of any Solar Energy.

Being a Weekend, there was a good crowd out, however,
by going into the "Singles Line" on the short side of all the
lifts we used, we never waited for more than 7 or 8 minutes.

Last Run....

By "Last Run", P'tit Bonheur was totally empty, an excellent time to
dial up the speed safely and carve out a few Kilometres of perfect
turns, on down through lower Beauchemin, on some of the most pristine
Groomed Alpine Snow Surfaces on Planet Earth.
