It's going to be a Sweetheart of a day!

Sunny, with temps rising to -8C, a north west wind coming up the Beauvallon sector and...

89 open trails this A.M.

A Valentine Ski/Boarding day that everyone is sure to Love!

It will be another day of technical skill application. The surfaces are improving daily, but until we get more fresh snow we will be dealing with these very "Firm" conditions.

The "Official" snow report @ http://www.tremblant.ca calls for "HARDPACK" surfaces.

So then, getting back to the daily improvements in the surface conditions, this happens for at least 3 reasons:

1) Traffic. As people use the mountain, repeated passages over the surface helps to break down the rough granular top layer.

2) Grooming. Every night, the Mountain Grooming crews are out there working the surfaces into a finer top layer by using "PowderMaker" attachments on the big packers.

3) Sunshine. On days like today, there will be enough thermal energy in the sun to soften up the top layer, so when you start to get traffic over that, it will loosen things up. To an extent, this is a daily cycle because at night it gets solid again, but by then the groomers have usually been back over it, so we do gradually get a finer top layer.

There was excellent carving on numerous runs on both sides.

Today was indeed better that yesterday,and tomorrow will probably be better than today, because the sun and the traffic are improving things.

There was a lot of thermal energy in the sun today.

By shortly after 1:00 P.M. we were starting to get hot... time to open up jacket vents which helped.

It felt too hot inside at the North Base, so for the first time this year, ate lunch outside and it was very pleasant. It was warm on the North Base Deck in the sun and there were a lot of people, just sitting out there, soaking up the rays.

Of course there were some slick bits, but you just had to use your technical abilities to navigate safely.

It was great to have so much of the Mountain opened up and there was a good crowd out to take advantage of a wonderful day.
