Let's Start With This....

Everything we have for today, flows forth from Yesterday...
...and yesterday was "winter" defined. Cool, Crisp, Fast, Fun...
did we say cool, oh yeah... cool as in kkkkoool, but oh-so-sweet
Alpine Snow Surfaces you can dance on!

The surface qualities of cold, properly packed and groomed natural
snow permit carving traction at the very highest levels the Human machine
can develop with the equipment that is currently available.

We think that like the finest Champagne, the finest Snow is best served
well chilled.

The Groomed surfaces we have now make you a better Skier/Boarder,
full stop, Period.

Did we say "Cool"? Oh yeah, it was cool, but properly bundled up,
which is very easy to do with even basic outer layers that technology
has provided us with, it was not hard to cope with at all and we can
tell you for a fact, that under all the face masks, goggles and Helmets
there were smiles from ear to ear as Mountain Guests could be
heard "Whooping It Up" with shouts of joy and amazement, all
over Tremblant!

We need to review the Snowmaking schedule because there's a
lot of guest feedback about the necessity of it being done with
so much natural snow around.

The best way we feel to put this into perspective, is that normally
on this date, we might have half, or a little more, open trails compared to
the actual is this year. Normally, snowmaking would be going on then to
build the Open terrain as quickly as possible to get more "Open Trails"
on the list as fast as they can.

That commitment to snowmaking over a seasons development is
a regularly scheduled event. The fact that we have such an abundance
of natural this year, simply means that adhering to the schedule is going
to extend both the quality and quantity of the season for the well being
of all future Guests and the Resort's business.

The total depth of the base from all snow sources is a resource for current
surface quality and future surface durability, and the Resort would be foolish
to miss any opportunity to increase the base when the conditions are so ideal.

Here is a hand-held 300MM Telephoto of Flying Mile taken from the same
position across Lac Tremblant as the lead photo above. It very clearly illustrates
the Big Bump Snowmaking strategy used to very quickly and efficiently
generate enough snow to completely render a perfect Ski Run in 3 or 4 days,
when old school techniques would have taken weeks and Mother Nature
might take months.

All the bumps can be put in place within 48 hours or so by the permanently
plumbed stationary Snow gun emplacements. A period of "drying out" for lack
of better terms, ensures a more crystalline like quality, which after a day or two
can be Groomed flat and perfect, instantly creating a seamless cover over all
the irregular earthly contours, shapes and debris.

Here is another sample from yesterday showing the same thing on Expo
taken at Last Run under the long shadows of the North Side.

We think all these Trail construction areas may be fully opened
for New Year's day.

Today's weather... is going to be much easier, even with a moderate
to briskly gusting wind from the South and/or South-West, because it's
about 15 degrees C warmer than yesterday.

On top of that, it's snowing now and it's supposed to snow all day. The
expected accumulation is between 1-3 CM's, but with a wind component,
different rates of accumulation are possible with the drift factors around
Tremblant's shapes. We'll have a better idea on all that Apres Ski.

Equipment Caveat:

It's no secret that with all the snow, there's been a lot of wind.
It's also no secret that the wind created Lift system outages for
safety. Along with all that, the wind has created some Wind Blown
base conditions that do not have quite the depth of layered loose over
top. Consequently, there are very firm sectors that are not all that icy,
just wind blown density packed, and those zone respond very well to
sharp, well tuned edges.

Get your Skis or Board a tune-up if you have not had one in the last
10 days of use.

If you are running metal rails, boxes, trick platforms, the metal to metal
contact with edges will dull them quickly, so don't expect to have a lot of
grip on firm, open Alpine trails.

Now, on to the fun stuff...

When you finally get here, today, "tomorrow" or when-ever...

Pace yourself, and have fun looking at all the strange and unusual life
forms at Tremblant!

Below:

The second in a series of takes
we did, trailside off Lowell Thomas at "Last Run", Versant Nord, the
North Side, well after the long shadows of a winters sunset have been
cast, rendering this very etherial "Study in Blue", surrealistic image
which is very real and very beautiful, especially when you consider the
velocity of the Summit winds not all that far away.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

GoTo: Archive, Search Reports by Date: Index: http://tinyurl.com/yktelmu

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
