95/95(*) Open Trails at Tremblant....

...And with close to 1/2 a metre of Fresh Snow
in the past week, very fine surfaces on just about
every single corner of it!

Currently, it's minus 1C, South Resort Base Level, under overcast sky's
and with any luck it may stay that way, preventing any serious
level of solar energy from developing. The Summit Temps should hold
somewhere around -4 C +/- a bit all day.

Looks Like This on the Web Cams....

Another surreal Black 'n White Winter morning. There are a couple
of small spots of colour you can find with a close look.

Ski And Board conditions are going to continue to hold on to
what we like to call pure winter for another day, even thought
the daytime high's are floating in and around the freezing mark.

"Pure Winter" conditions can be roughly defined as sustained
sub-zero ambient surface temperatures, where "sustained" is
a time period of weeks and/or months.

(Of course, even the best of Pure Winter is typically punctuated with
thaws, rain or other perfectly natural swings in the seasonal mix, but
just as typically, those anomalies are of fairly short duration and they
are temporary. They can and do happen every year and at every Ski
Resort.)

The significance of pure winter conditions is that they do not
have the morning icy component that is the usual byproduct of
the typical Spring daily temperature cycle of daylight plus and
night-time minus. The advantages to Ski and Board conditions
in terms of every-day utility are that there is far less slickness,
far less chance of out and out ice formation, far less compensation
required in the work of Mountain Crews to render depth, softness,
grip and uniform consistency across the entire scope of Open terrain.

In short, the reliability of as close to possible glitch free Winter Snow Surfaces
over the whole of Open Mountain terrain is most desirable for both Users and
Providers. The Alpine Ski/Board Experience at any Ski Resort, and for all
skill levels is enhanced by pure winter conditions and we're most thankful
for every single day of them.

What we think is amazing is that these fine winter conditions have been
safe and sound at Tremblant with the recent temps staying so close to,
but on the cool, right side, just below the freezing mark.

It's important to note that where we talk in the above paragraphs about
"Winter Snow Surfaces", this is a hugely distinct difference that may not
be recognized by infrequent "Consumers" who only get out a few times a
season and think everything "White" is snow, even if it has ground up ice
granules in its mix, or if it's a very solid sheet of anything congealed for
examples.

Nope... "Winter Snow Surfaces", though they are well compacted, are
formed from loose, fine unaltered crystalline snow with dig-able depth,
a depth that will both yield to, and support the tilted edges of traversing
Skis or Snowboards. The closer it is to pure, the less it has in the way of
any of those "other" icy or solid components.

The unique aspect of these current conditions then, is that if you could
have as close as possible to the pleasant warmth of Spring, yet retain
the ideal performance, quality and consistency of pure winter surfaces,
Mother Nature has blessed Tremblant with very near to the best of
both worlds at the same time.
