12:00 A.M. PCT.
Snow Far.... Snow Good!
Lets start with this North Base Web Cam Snap Shot Zoomed in
to the trees behind the Expo Quad Base. Snow in the trees and snow
in the air, just before 5:00 P.M. EST. As far as we're concerned, this
is a best case scenario. It shows the stable sub-zero of the North's
ambient daytime with the retained tree bough snow... plus...
the forecasted snow precipitation has started.
Panning down to the deck of the North Side Base Chalet, a small, but
clear Snow accumulation has started....
7 hours later......
"Proof of Snow Accumulation"...
While many areas to the "South", like much of Vermont USA, get rain
and/or freezing rain...
Up "North" at Tremblant.... We've Got Snow!!!
There may be some thickness to the fresh morning snow...
but it's all snow and that's the main thing.
Mountain Crews will be working all night to integrate the fresh into the
base, so there will be lots of great open terrain for all skill levels, however
careful attention to matching Terrain Skill level to personal Skill levels
may be critical for a day or so.
Use caution in initial explorations prior to ripping around.
-------------------------------------------------------------
10:50 A.M. Up-Date:
The Wind is hitting the Summit so hard it's vibrating the Web Cam
that's mounted to a telephone post....
For your Reference Information....
Here is a recent archive file picture of the Summit Lowell Thomas off-load
zone, including the Summit Ski Patrol Headquarters, across the Summit
plateau from the Gondola Off-Load zone.
Below: "Zoom In, Excerpt "A", Summit Web Cam Pod.
A wind significant enough to vibrate the post the Web Cam is mounted on
is very strong.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
8:00 A.M. Early Up-Date:
From the Official, Tremblant.ca Snow Report:
"The Gondola Express, the Flying Mile and the Soleil lifts are in
progressive opening this morning due to the strong winds. You can
access the mountain from the North side only. Stay tuned for all the
changes on the ski condition page on Tremblant.ca."
-------------- 7:50 A.M. Orig. Post -------------------

How lucky will we be today?
So Far, So Good...
The Uninsulated Snow in the North Base Trees hangs in there, literally,
for another day... "Proof" of Sub-zero winter by the smallest degree.
How lucky will we be today?
As a Huge "Colorado Low" traveling like a freight train with
a mixed cargo of "Nasty" crosses central North America
and is now covering much of Southern Ontario from
Windsor/Detroit right through to Ottawa and into Western
Quebec.
We say "Nasty", because for millions and millions of
people living within the reach of the storm, blizzard
and Freezing rain conditions have once again caused
everything from simply being snowed in, to the myriad
of traffic interruptions and unfortunately, accidental deaths.
All the way from Kansas City Missouri. USA, eventually, all
the way to Newfoundland and the Atlantic Ocean will also
feel the blast.
Everyone who's been a patient reader here knows we've
been talking about the fine lines of temperature tipping points
through the recent days. This is especially critical as they have
related to the benefit of Tremblant's Pure Winter Alpine Snow
Sport Surface Conditions that have hung on, despite the regional
experience of heat and rain for many Ski Resort areas to the South.
The kicker with the current advance of this system is that even though
it was forecast all along to be Snow as it crossed Southern Ontario
towards Quebec, it's actually come as freezing rain for many instead...
that's definitely Nasty. The Weather Network and Environment Canada
are still calling for "Heavy Snow" here at Tremblant, but with the temps
floating around at a degree or two above zero, things could end up who
knows how...
Will Tremblant continue to be so lucky as to escape the freezing rain
that's now covering a lot of areas to the immediate South-West?
We sure hope so... it would be the equivalent of dodging a bullet
the size of Michigan.
Will Tremblant actually get the big Snow in the forecast...???
... We sure hope so!
If you've been reading here all along... this is where we once again
hope to be able to say...
Thank Goodness for "North"!
In the mean-time, for all those who are lucky enough to be here at
Tremblant right this second...
...the Skiing and Snowboarding are going to be excellent today for as
long as the weather continues to be absent of any wet precipitation.
We'd like to point out that the morning will include the vast array of
groomed terrain that Tremblant Mountain Crews always have
available for Beginner and Intermediate skill levels.
A review of the PDF below will show there's also an equally
impressive array of groomed Expert terrain and we can tell
you for a fact that the traction and lateral grip levels for Expert
Carvers is going to be pretty much equivalent to driving a
Ferrari on a race track today.
If the forecast occurs exactly the way it's supposed to, a lot of "Heavy"
Snow will be a great thing for the base and for "Experts" who have
the skills to navigate and get all the fun from it. For Beginners and
intermediates, abundant "Heavy" Snow may present challenges, so
have fun until then. After the point of any start of "Heavy" snow,
it may be necessary to use caution, but that will be obvious, as will
be the need to use slow speed and care for those around who may
need extra room for safety.
