3/11/13 Tremblant Conditions

Post by T360 »

T360 Late Night Apres Ski, Under construction at 11:40 P.M.

Rain was forecast, But Did NOT Really Happen... on the Mountain anyway...

It was grey, it was warm, it was "Spring" Surface conditions...
but it was a 100% Tremblant, beautiful March day.

There was drizzly rain all over St Jovite and much of the area to the west.

However, there was very little rain, ...very, very little rain at Tremblant
and there was even sun out, in a very shadowy sense, for much of the day.

There would be some, including ourselves, that would be hard pressed
to say they encountered any Rain at all. We were dry, all our garments
were dry for all the runs we took, and there was no apparent pooling of
water that we could see anywhere trailside.

Warm "Spring".... snow, with all it's distinct qualities. Warm "Spring" snow...
with all it's 100% winter wall to wall coverage still intact...

This "Sweet Spot" of complete coverage and warmer temperatures
can not last forever, so get out now regional Tremblant fans!

We were running a nice older set of Atomic Beta Race 9.12 Slalom
Race skis with an 11 Meter turning radius and all we did was rip up
turn upon turn of soft carving on surfaces that for the most part
are still perfectly white.

The Snow is definitely Spring soft, from the summit down.
Beginners and Intermediates were finding it thick in places.
It was a very pack-able, slightly damp...Fine Snowball grade, quite shreddable.

We found the South to be generally softer with a higher moisture
content, but still very complete coverage. It was necessary to skate out the
bottom sectors as there was some additional forward resistance.

The North was notably faster with better glide performance.

A Tradition for some, and a good one at that!

Can you see any marks on these Trail Surfaces... Nope, just wide open
white space!

It has started to rain here at South Base Sectors, late night, after around 11P.M.

There is no Preliminary Snow Report for tomorrow yet... and under the rainy
circumstances, that tells us a lot, namely, it's too early to tell without
the benefit of Ski Patrol's morning inspection.

all we can do is wait....

--------------- 4:33 A.M. Orig.Post ---------

95/95(*) Open Trails on the Spring into Warm, 4 sides of Tremblant.

Very early start to today's reporting due to local/regional
out of office commitments...

Please Note: Time stamp is not yet registering Daylight
Savings "Spring Forward" time correction. Actual posting
time is 4:33 A.M.

It's "Spring" ... like it or not.

Currently, still +3C... we do not "like" this...
We need to see overnight sub-zero's to break any 24hour
thermal momentum from eroding the base, but as is the case
every "Spring", the time comes when these cycles can happen....

It seems as though even if it is short, like between now and Wednesday,
we are having a preview of "Spring".

The messy part is going to be Tuesday, although exactly how messy
is not yet clear and Mother Nature could still surprise us with an
unexpected return to cold sooner than later, but that may be just
Wishful Thinking on our part right now.

More to follow as time permits.... look back at the last 3 or 4 days
of these pages using the upper screen right "Previous Topic" button
to scroll back through to review our annotated Weather Network Graphics.

We will put up the evolved, current screenshot in a bit, but basically,
the rain that was originally expected Monday is now looking as if it will
be more likely Tuesday.

If there's any silver lining so far, it's that the forecasted wind speed has been
reduced by almost half, so that's positive because it reduces the "Blow Dryer"
effect that we really dislike with warm, plus value temperatures.

There will always be great Skiing/Boarding.

It's up to us to adapt to Mother Nature and
make the best of every single day...
regardless of weather.....

...but it does look like yer gunna' need one of these tomorrow...

... as usual, we would like to point out that in damn near 40 seasons
here, we've had some of our most fun days ever in these kinds of
conditions. Due to outstanding smoothness, speed and grip, plus the
forgiving softness that helps performance confidence, the skiing itself
is potentially very very fine, and maybe even very very fast.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

GoTo: Archive, Search Reports by Date: Index: http://tinyurl.com/yktelmu

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
