3/16/13 Tremblant Conditions

T360 Apres Ski Edit @ 10:45 P.M.
"Nice Day" does not really come close...
With well tuned equipment, you could have one of the
better days of the year on almost all lines on almost all
runs and selective lines on the selective remaining runs.
There were some icy substrates, mostly at the end of the day
and mostly in the centres that were subjected to very high
traffic concentrations.
If those icy bits bothered you... go look at some other Tremblant
info. source... we only talk with serious, dedicated and well prepared
Skiers and Boarders here....
Any Expert with tuned gear..... any Skier/Boarder of any skill level
with tuned equipment ... we'll talk with you....
Oh... just kidding... we'll talk to anyone, but we are very tired of people
who complain about icy but can not remember either when, or if, they
have ever had a tune-up.
In the mean-time, we are carving like a Surgeon with a Sharp Scalpel...
We're carving such tight turns we can feel the centrifugal force in our
Strained Neck muscles.
Expo Grooming Over Natural Base We're getting such high performance, so much grip and traction
that we're so very thankful we did all those 350 LBs.Smith Machine
Squats for rep sets of 20 in the gym all summer.....
There's an increase in the square area of smooth, fast surfaces
today and excellent carving on surfaces like those pictured below
are the majority by far.
We're having the satisfaction that comes from matching skill sets with
equipment capability... except... we think there's still more to learn,
so that's the challenge. Somehow, every day, we try to improve
something... some small detail... some nuance of technique...
It's hard to have a bad day when this is the fundamental element of
the Alpine Ski/Board Experience at Tremblant...
Worked into the base as you can see in the "Expo Base" shot, 2 above this one,
all this natural snow has virtually restored Mid-Winter Surfaces.
Tomorrow will be better....

go full, gamers/bigscreen if you can... we never use thumbnails. The new snow is a very fine, light and dry, quarter-size, loosely fallen
accumulation under moderate and variable wind factors which has
resulted in snow on all 4 sides of Tremblant, but where the wind has
shaped drifts and lee-side fill-in's, greater amounts than the statistical
total.
For the most part, the wind was not strong enough to prevent
accumulation even on most of the wide runs, however there were some
localized swirling twirling vortices, even the odd mini-funnel cloud
whipping around that may have reduced snow deposits over the firm base
in some random areas.
Carve This... if you can...
The performance levels of carving that can be achieved on
these surfaces is getting back close to mid-winter Quality.
While the base is extremely firm(there are some, but not a lot, of icy zones
in the underlying substrates, mostly around Crests or over the edges of
steeper pitches), snow was falling as the temperatures dropped
and that has helped tremendously because in the vast majority of
the Open terrain, the new snow began to bond with the base before
it had a chance to freeze hard, so there is a very fine natural transition
from the base to the new top layers. Those new top layers are now deep
enough to be a decent, shreddable carving medium for super smooth
and fast Skiing/Boarding.
If you could be here...
Why would you miss any of this ??? If you are a new visitor to Tremblant, you'll find the very friendly
very knowledgeable and fully bi-lingual members of the Tremblant Info.
Crews with their distinctive "?" jackets, as pictured above, are ready
to answer any Tremblant questions you have. From where to find
Trails you can match with your skill level, to places to eat, take pictures,
find services, or any other examples of practical "How To's" for
Tremblant that you need to know, these folks can assist on the spot.
Below:
Here's a yesterday sample that means today will be very fine... Today's Weather... Sunny with a daytime high of -7C and a light to
moderate breeze from the Nor-West, crossing the Summit from the
Nansen/La Crete Summit Sector on it's way towards Duncan. There is
already solar energy that you can feel, so it may not seem as cold as
the temp actually is.
Prior to the sun getting low in the afternoon sky there should be some
beautifully pleasant sun-warmed trail side spots, particularly on the
middle North, on the Duncan side, that have zero wind were you can
really feel some heat.
By mid afternoon, South Side runs will all be sun drenched and
very, very fine as Solar energy offsets ambient air temp's.
Today has every promise of being a classic, beautiful March Winter
day at Tremblant and tomorrow should be just about exactly the same.
88(*) Open Trails on the Official,Downloadable, PDF,
Trail and Grooming Status Report, Courtesy of Tremblant.ca Tremblant has gotten exactly what it needed from
Mother Nature to restore the vast majority of Open
Terrain to very good Winter-like standards.
The combination of the new snow and the Grooming done
overnight may have generated some comparatively speaking,
best carving surfaces of the season for today.
This might be the best sign you're in for some great
Skiing/Boarding today! Yesterday... "Last Run", Expo Base.
If you're not on the way now, change plans immediately...
