11/24/13 Tremblant Conditions

Apres Ski complete @ 9:20 P.M.
They Said It Would Be Sunny At Tremblant Today...
... and "They" were right!
That was a perfectly pure ... Introduction To Winter Day !!!
The wind whistled through the Summit Comm Tower and the Snow
was being propelled across the top of Tremblant with a wind tunnel
effect that could hold you up against the gravity of Beauvallon's upper
pitch.
Awesome wind force that kids and adults alike were playing with as
you tried to descend against this force-field of winging wind.
If you don't think this looks and Skis like winter...
you need to update your eye-glass prescription. Beauvallon was in the best shape it gets to by Mid-January... today.
An absolute joy of superbly carving surfaces. Some of the windblown
looked like ice, but when you traversed it, you could tell it was just
wind-packed snow. Our tuned edges held roller-coaster grip all the way
down and all we can say is that it was a totally unique treat on day 3
of the new season.
Limited Apres Ski Pic's due to battery loss on primary and backups...
but we did get some...
The North was superbly serene below the Summit. For the most
part, in the lee of the wind, and the shadow of the sun, surfaces
so fine for the 3rd day you could scarce believe it.
Above: Ghost Riderzz on the Lowell Thomas Triple were in a
great position to see the impressive amounts of snow crews
have made in less than 48 hours.
We would not be surprised to see some of these areas open by
next weekend.
All 3 descents were as close to excellent as we could ever
imagine for this date.
"Though They Be Few... They Be Excellent!"
EDGE Fans...
A Lot Of Snow Has Drifted Onto The Edge...
"Action", Edge Sector Trail # 88, As seen while riding up
Lowell Thomas Triple at Mid Point.
SAFETY CAVEAT: We rode up the Gondola with 2 Pro-Patroler's and
when they saw these kids go out-of-bounds, on Dernier Cri they called
to their on-hill team to notify them. Going out of bounds is not cool.
It's unsafe if you have an accident and these kids may have lost their
lift tickets if caught.
Warning Kids... Do not do this unless you'd be happy losing your pass.
We were setting up for shots to capture the Snowmaking and they skied
into the frame.
To all others... The Snowmaking is impressive where-ever Mountain Crews
are working. At this rate, you'll see advances just about every week, we'd say.
This Snowmaking sample below is on Lowell Thomas and if it keeps up
like this, 2 days from now could see it well filled in.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
10:30 A.M. Update... Official Snow Report Restored. Data archived below.
----------------------- Orig. Post @ 8:51 A.M. -----------------------------
7(*) Open Trails on the windy, white, wintery slopes at Tremblant.
We're Focused On The Snow!
We tried to grab this quicky telephoto Snap Shot on Johannsen at Last Run
yesterday because the person has such nice technique, but the Snow
got in the way of the Camera's auto-focus so while it's not focused on
the Skier very well, it sure is focused on the great early season Snow!
The trail count seems to be up by 1, but we're not sure which one
because the Official Snow Report was somehow defective last night
and it was showing the data for Snowshoe Ski Resort in West Virginia...
It's another Intrawest property, so evidently, there's shared Web Technology
that somehow found it's way through the corporate chain.
Regardless though, for Tremblant Fans, the trail array is not going to be
changing to any great degree until either Mother Nature decides to dump
large quantities of Natural Snow... or..... until Tremblant Mountain Crews
can make enough to open more terrain, which they are working on 24hrs.
That leaves us with the same basic 3 descents from Opening Day.
1) La Crete to Beauvallon, to Johannsen, South Resort Base.
This alone is a phenomenal logistical accomplishment and worthy
of early season attendance. Last year was the first time we can recall
having this feature, and to have it again marks a new era in either
favourable weather luck and/or Mountain Crews snow production capabilities.
Of course, it's probably a bit of both, so our hats are off in salute to
Mountain Crews and Mother Nature for this rare privilege.
2) Beauchemin to Lowell Thomas Triple Chair. The North Side, top half,
intermediate express route. In years gone by, this was often the first
run open. It's very shaded from the sun, it's in the lee of the summit
so sheltered from all but Nor-East winds, and it was the place where
natural snow seemed to be best retained, all before snowmaking.
Looking down Beauchemin from the top, the right hand side is frequently
roped off with a Race Course/Training Run put in place. The rate of pitch
there is great for pre-season gate training.
3) P'tit Bonheur to Lowell Thomas Triple Chair. What can we say...
this brilliant masterpiece of simple beauty is a "Goto" run for anyone
who loves to ski or board. In terms of Tremblant history, it's "New",
being cut at the beginning of the Intrawest era here at Tremblant....
but... like an old friend that you seem to have known forever,
P'tit Bonheur is just one of those trails that seems so familiar that
you can't remember how you did without it before. P'tit Bonheur
makes you look good. P'tit Bonheur makes you look great. We think
this run is a Global Benchmark for Carving Technique Learning and
Development.
Only 3 descents open you say? Well, it's only November 24th and for
our money, they're infinitely better than staring at the 4 inside walls of any gym
on the Planet, and they're 3 of the best possibilities we could hope for at this
very early date. We're overjoyed to be out Skiing laps on all of them.
"Better Than Staring At The 4 Inside Walls Of Any Gym"...
Tele-Mach-One !!!
Here's another snow out-a-focus that's focused on Fun!!!
We couldn't throw it away!
Above: Johannsen at Last Run...
No doubt about the speed and shred qualities of the snow here!
We don't have the downloadable PDF Trail and Grooming Report...
yet and/or anymore ??? We miss that a lot because it told us where the
Snowmaking was going on, and consequently, where new terrain might
be opening, however... today we have some visual evidence....
Apres Ski yesterday we took this pic from the Government Dock across
Lac Tremblant....
After a more detailed look, we see that there's a tell-tale sign
of Snowmaking happening behind the Flying Mile peak.
Zoom-in on Flying Mile Sector: Snowmaking Underway To
Develop Nansen!!!
Technically speaking, as noted, it might actually be on Mi Chemin
or even La Passe, but non-the-less, it seems to us that the only time you'd
see snowmaking behind Flying Mile on the left hand side, would be for
the development of Nansen, Tremblant's longest trail at 6.2 kilometres.
Experts waiting for Vertige's Double Black Diamond are not going to
be excited about this so much, but for that vast majority of average Skill
levels, having any portion of Nansen come on-line, is a big deal.
Todays Weather...
Supposed to be sunny, and it is looking that way now, daytime high
temp at -9C, but a very gusty Nor-West wind, so you'll need to bundle up
for the Summit as it whips across from the Nansen side towards Duncan.
With full sun for the first time in the 3 open days, we'll all welcome
the Tremblant views, but coming on to Beauvallon from La Crete
will be quite blustery, so make sure outer layer overlaps are secure.
Conditions on the Open Terrain should be very good. It's been steadily cold
for the second day now, so traffic, grooming and additional snow should make
it all better than previous. We'll get back to you on that in Apres Ski.

Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.
There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.
