11/27/13 Tremblant Conditions

Post by T360 »

T360 Apres Ski, Apres Snow Storm, Edit @ 6:20 P.M.

Below: Rope Tow and the entire Lowell Thomas Sector...

This is where a lot of the new snow ended up after it sort of
drifted over the Summit from the Beauvallon area.

As far as the currently Open Terrain is concerned, the upper North
got most of the benefit in terms of outright depth, somewhere
between 15 - 20 CM’s. Some areas got drifted-in higher, some areas
got wind-blown less.

There is new snow everywhere though and once integrated into the
existing base it will become a very valuable component
of the early seasons established snow pack.

It is important to pay attention to the Skier/Boarder Code and
Ski Patrol Boundary Lines. As long as you can stop for anyone...
and are within bounds, you are covered.

We imagine Grooming Crews will be doing all-nighters to get this fresh
integrated and provide beginners and intermediates with confidence
inspiring corduroy.

It is very packable with some humidity in it, and that with it's weight,
makes the new snow excellent trail construction material. It is going to
pack and groom very well and the surface left will be smooth and have
a lot of traction. Right now, it takes a wee bit of muscle to stay on top of.

So while beginners may have found the density challenging, learning to
handle these fresh snow conditions is an important lesson. They can and
thankfully do, happen at every Ski Resort.

It may take Crews a couple of days to work it all in, so we need to
patient if necessary.

Here is the best way to get on top of all the New Snow....

If You're a genuine Ski/Board fan, you'll be making Tremblant plans
now.

We expect that the Weekend may bring another 4 or 5 Trails on-line.

More later... if possible, after a lot of shovelling, dinner and a nap.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

11:00 A.M. Update ...

Major(**) Open Trail Count Virtually Doubles in 3 Hours...

Total is now up to 15 !!!

Revised Trail List attached below in "Reply"

(**) excluding beginner/connector areas.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

9(*) Open Trails on the Powder Snow Covered Slopes of Tremblant!

Regarding last evenings Apres Ski Snow Storm Warnings:

We predicted potential Orographically heavier Snow accumulations
at the Summit level and that may be borne out, however, the wind
direction changed, so the drifting that we also spoke of may lie in
different sectors than we originally thought.(see yesterdays report
for complete detail.)

Otherwise, we feel it's a good call and we can't wait to get to the top
to document the whole scene up there.

In the mean-time, the trusty Web Cams are telling a great picture,
very consistent with the above.

Temp's wise today should see South Base Level at Zero with
the entire Mountain remaining sub-zero with a range of around
-4 or -5 C at the Summit and gradually a bit warmer to -1C
at the top of Johannsen in front of the Resort South Base village.

The winds are moderate Nor-West, with some gusts. We'll have to see
how it shapes the snow accumulations throughout the day and we will
let you know how that's going in today's Apres Ski.

From Yesterday's Apres Ski notes:

Last Run riding up Lowell Thomas over Rope Tow and Lowell Thomas.

We think they have left a very course cleat-marked pattern
here to help create a good surface for the new snow to bond with
as well as better retention during the initial snowfall, if there's any wind.

up-bound Lowell Thomas Triple Chair.

Many areas like this look excellent to begin with, so all the new should
accelerate the near-term possibility for openings.

These scenes above are going to look a lot different today,
and for the same reasons, much of what could have been
discussed about trends up to yesterday will be totally
irrelevant today.

The main thing we feel is important is that the work done by
Mountain Crews up till last night, was to put things in place to
maximize the benefit of all this new snow for additional terrain
to come on line.

With this much fresh, new, all natural snow, the expectations of
Tremblant fans for as much to be open as possible will be very
high, so it will be interesting to see how quickly those hopes can
be co-ordinated with new open trails.

In St.Jovite, the snow has been falling at about 1 CM per hour.
We feel that will be the minimum that Tremblant has gotten and
the likelihood is more where Mother Nature has shaped the flow.

Early portion of today's reporting abbreviated to commence early
field work for extensive Apres Ski...

Wish you were here!

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

GoTo: Archive, Search Reports by Date: Index: http://tinyurl.com/yktelmu

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
