10(*) Open Trails on the Snowed-in Slopes at #Tremblant.

After the Storm... "What Happens Next?"...

...It's all about the Grooming...

We say "Snowed-in" because we think that relates to the
abundance of fresh snow on the Lowell Thomas sector that
was all open yesterday... closed today(4 less open trails),
and needs daylight hours for Grooming Crews to develop finished
surfaces that might even include some Ramps/Jump Lines/Park Modules
as well as some basic, good old Corduroy, all for the Weekend???

Basically, there's a couple days work here to get it all
under control.

These Pic's following might help explain...

There's a TON, well actually, many, many TON'S of new snow
in the Lowell Thomas Sector. This first shot below is just below
the first crest, taken from the Lowell T Triple Chair.

The Thickness is not something that everyone can handle this well.
For the most part, people were dealing with it quite well...

BUT... there was a lot of this going on with predictable results...

The softness and depth are a combination that requires advanced
Powder Skills and average technique will not cope well with these
conditions at the speed that Gravity wants to take you through them.

The "Left-Overs" are what we think Mountain Crews are
going to be dealing with today.

Even our "Go To" Favourite, P'tit Bonheur, had a thick accumulation
that required great care in. It was fine with slow speed, but there
will be some sore muscles today as a result of doing snowplows
in sometimes deep build-up sectors.

The way the wind shaped the flow of snow during the storm created
snow everywhere, but the South Trails that were exposed to the highest
direct wind speed had the least amount of accumulated depth, so
Beauvallon, to be specific, was in some ways easier to navigate because
there was less tracked-up depth to criss-cross on your way down.

Even so, it was not all "Easy". Even smaller/shallower tracked areas can generate
difficulties for the beginner/intermediate's.

Bottom line: Great Care was Required Everywhere.

With The Grooming...
Today should be a lot easier for everyone....

...however, there will still be soft spots that may be encountered
while Skiing or Boarding that could upset your balance if
speed is not conservative. These zones could change during the day
and you may not assume things are predictable everywhere and/or
that they are the same over time on the same runs.

Today's Weather....

Partially sunny, daytime high of around -9C with moderate to strong
West breezes, so coming up the Taschereau Sector over near Soleil,
and crossing the Summit towards Lowell Thomas.

It's a cooler, more wintery day than yesterday.

Big New Snow Integration Going On NOW.

There should be loads of Groomed, but caution
in softer areas with speed. Watch out for others!

Set Plans Now For EXCELLENT WEEKEND CONDITIONS!!!

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

GoTo: Archive, Search Reports by Date: Index: http://tinyurl.com/yktelmu

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)

T360 Prime Time Apres Ski, @ 8:49 P.M.

A very fine early Winter day, the 1st. day after the 1st Huge
Snow Storm of the Season.

Arriving at Tremblant, this view tells you a lot about how your
day is going to go.

Looking closely above, you can see Snowmaking up at the Summit level.
The trail they're working on is #22, Kandahar.

Below is a Zoomed in, Hand-Held Telephoto close-up of the work
being done on Kandahar. Picture taken from same spot as above.

the Snowmaking progress first hand and it seems to be going on at
a rapid pace.

On the Summit itself, the quality of the surface conditions becomes evident
the instant you walk from the Gondola over to put your Skis/Board on.

The Snow is fine, dry and cold formed with very good grip and speed.
All the softness of yesterday has gone and what's left is a smooth top-sheet
of high traction carving snow.

As usual, you need good edges to optimize control. There are some
exposed windblown portions, but they are all snow and no ice
that we could find anywhere. After initial explorations, it was possible
to cruise with confidence that the surfaces would hold even your most
aggressive turns.
