Today's info. following very shortly.
Thanks for your patience, but you should be on
the fine Open Trails at Tremblant now anyway!
----------------- End of Delay Notice --------------------
Here's how it looks this morning riding up the TGV Quad Chair
as you look toward the Gondola rising to the Summit.
Exactly the way it looked for a lot of yesterday.
We do not think the Snowmaking Fog will clear because even though
the temp's have been steadily rising up from yesterday's -8C to a forecast
high today of -1C, it is our understanding that the Mountain Operations
Crews can make snow quite close to the freezing mark with the newest
technology they now have. Additionally, it's between 2 to 5 C Cooler up
the Mountain with elevation, so we fully understand that for the future
quality and durability of the season, they would want to keep production
at the highest rate possible now.
There's one other big reason we feel Mountain Crews will be wanting to
maximize snowmaking and additional open terrain, but we'll talk about
that in an expanded focus tomorrow.
We did see some clearing yesterday, probably due to shifting
wind directions, and the overall impression of well established
"Winter" went as far as the eye could see.
Above: What a fabulous way to start off your Ski/Board Season!
First days out for many means "Instant Winter" compared to average
seasons where at the end of November, typically, there is still a
lot of brown background without accumulated snow in the bush.
As the temp's rise we may see reductions in the few icy bits we found
on some of the steeper pitches and areas of traffic concentration
that we reported on in our Apres Ski yesterday.
Prior to yesterday, we'd enjoyed surfaces of unusually fine consistency for
days on end at this early time. We got so used to them being everywhere,
that when things became a bit more normal we had to re-set back to the
reality that Mother Nature can and does, throw the odd little glitch at you
sometimes.
Part of that was the traffic. With a fair crowd out, the wear factors where
everyone had to funnel through a narrow spot like the little pitch below the
TGV Base, for example, did reveal some icy base.
As the weather for daytimes this up-coming week is forecast to be right at
the freezing mark, any icy bits, if they do occur from overnight cold, will
hopefully be softened during the day.
Mini Feature:
Let's talk about some of the Un-Groomed Experts Only Terrain that Opened
Yesterday.
It's this simple... how many can remember Banzai Open on Nov. 30th???
It may be a wee bit foggy, but...
it's all white, all winter, all snow!!! And... Guess who's here to Ski it???
Racers Ready!!!
All things considered:
1) It's fantastic to have this available this early.
2) It's Au Natural, there are Hazards, some obvious, some not.
3) Experts Only Please
Banzai is not supported with any blown snow, so thanks to Mother
Nature, last Wed., she filled this entire sector with abundant, thick
deep snow, enough to Open it. Beware though, it does not have a
Mid-Season's base yet, so extreme care, and advanced skills are
necessary to navigate it properly.
Coincidentally, that says a lot about Tremblant's Racer Development
Program. These Kids have what it takes and following their coach
is helping them gain experience in very challenging conditions.
The next pic. below, shows the run-out towards Lowell
Thomas(off to screen right) looking back up Banzai. If you've
made it down this far, you've handled the most difficult part.
What follows is the kind of "Bushwhacking" that it takes to
traverse this run-out that is not yet filled in or Groomed, as it
is by mid-season.
This is the type of Early Season Conditions that are exactly the same
as 1939! While this specific portion was not open on the North until 1948,
the point is that there was No Snowmaking What-So-Ever in 1939 and this is
the way the whole Mountain Opened. It was the way EVERY ski area opened...
...Until Snowmaking revolutionized the whole sport!
To this very day though, there are many many fans of this Natural, Traditional
form of terrain opening and for that entire group, having this available
is a pure thrill that they've waited months for!
Once the base of a mature season with the fullness of typical
snow accumulation occurs, Banzai is Groomed as more fresh
snow comes. Throughout the season Banzai remains one of our
most favourite trails at Tremblant and we enjoy skiing it anytime
is is open.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
North Side News Update... Based on what we see going on
with North Side Lift testing and Snowmaking which has been
going on since Opening Day, we feel 95% certain you'll see
Top-To-Bottom North Side Skiing/Boarding by Friday,
maybe even sooner.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
In the Mean-Time... For those that want Smoooooth !!!!
Relax!!! ...there's Miles 'n Miles, Kilometres over Kilometres of that!!!
Above: Originally designed by "JackRabbit" Johannsen for Tremblant's
opening in 1939, Nansen is the longest single trail here at 6.2 Kilometres.
At this moment, the Open portion is the Upper Mountain half, but
there's snowmaking on the bottom, so it won't be too long before you
can do all 6.2 KM from top-to-bottom.

Within the range of seasons openings quality, we certainly
have a good one going now. The early opening of Banzai
anytime in November is ample proof.
The benefit extends beyond tomorrow, providing Mother
Nature delivers at least Seasonal averages, to the promise
of superb Skiing and Boarding right through to April!
