Spring.
But with a Tremblant "Twist"...
91 Open Trails!
Typically, when we have these weather factors,
we do not have the coverage that we have today.
There are 2 principal reasons for the durability of our
surface conditions that are contributing to this beautiful
coverage that our Mountain has:
1) Over 400 CM of seasonal snow accumulation so far which
is far above the 10 year average for this date. This thick blanket
has been able to both insulate, and so far, absorb all these
"Spring" like phenomenon such as warm temp spikes and the
odd dose of rain.
2) Almost 8 continuous weeks of -25C +/- overnight temps in
the heart of this winter, put the frost very deep into the Mountain,
deeper than usual, and that ambient cold is being held in the
Mountain like a reserve. This reserve is working up from
underneath with the net result of keeping our surfaces cool.
It will take a long time for the warm temps to draw that out
and until then, we are going to enjoy this exceptional coverage.
So far this morning, it is still overcast, another factor that will work
in our favour because it will keep the direct sunlight from penetrating
into the surface for a while. Yes, I know everybody likes a nice sunny
day, and we may have that yet, but that sun has a lot of thermal energy,
so it is a double edged thing if you are trying to conserve a cool surface.
We start out with -1C, but the high today could go up to +6. There is a
moderate breeze that will come across the Mountain from the Soleil
sector and it may bring a snowy mixed precipitation later on in the day.
The Skiing and Boarding are going to be excellent today so get going
now and take advantage of this unique opportunity to ski or board
"Spring" conditions with this exceptional coverage.
