12/26/14 #Tremblant Conditions

Post by T360 »

T360 Evening Update: The Tremblant.ca Official Blog states that
the Edge and Soleil are scheduled to be Open Tomorrow!

On the Edge, Trail # 88, "Action” has already been on-line so it’s re-opening
for tomorrow will be very eagerly anticipated.

On Soleil, the Descent Path will be from the Summit, Franc Sud, Trail # 40, to
Toboggan, Trail # 41, to Tapecul, Trail # 42, arriving at the Soleil Base Quad Chair.

The really big undertaking is Soleil because it’s permanently Plumbed Snowmaking
requires about -18 C to function normally, so the deployment of Gear that can make
Snow at the warmer temp’s the Mountain has had up ’til now has certainly meant a
lot of extra work to plan and instal.

An Added Logistical Bonus is that for the extra Holiday Traffic Volume, the increased
up-hill capacity will spread the load and keep lift times down to a minimum for everyone.

For those “Early Birds”, between Opening and about 11:00 A.M., you can probably
crank off 22,000 Vertical Feet Lapping any of the Detachable Quad Chairs before
things get busy.

There will be no shortage of “Fast” out there today!

Summit-to-Base trails like Versant Nord, the North Side’s Beauchemin may
have 2 or 3 different Surface Conditions within it’s length as the Summit Level
Below Zero becomes the Base Level + 2C, so Shred characteristics, Grip, and
Surface resistance levels will want you to stay alert and pay attention to the
changing effectiveness of Control Inputs that can sometimes change within metres.
Traffic Wear Factors may be substantially different too, so keep an eye out
for naturally occurring hazards that may become more evident as the day progresses.
There may be some slick zones over the next couple of days where the surfaces
subjected to higher “+” plus values of the preceding days, have or are in the
process of congealing.

Starts out Overcast Grey, but it’s actually forecast to be somewhat
sunny this morning... that would be nice...

At least the brunt of the Big Eastern North American Storm System has
passed off to towards the Atlantic Ocean, so while it may remain above Zero
by a degree or two today at South Resort Base Levels, the Summit has
been Sub-Zero for over the past 24 hours and we are headed directly
into Winter Weather.

Consequently, there will be a mix of Conditions as temps decrease with
vertical rise on the Mountain. Exploration will reveal Sweet Spots that
will exist today, so use caution with the speed we referred to above
until you verify safe passage.

For Holiday-Term Regional Tremblant Fans making discretionary
“Go, or Not” decisions...

Please keep in mind that conditions still very good and are definitely going to undergo
incremental daily improvements in overall consistency. The still very stable
Base has already had a small, but important dusting of Snow in places, so we say
bring your Tuned Gear and get out when ever you can. Exercise and Training Benefits
of any day on the slopes are always an asset to Personal Health... especially after all
that Christmas Turkey and Baking you were “Forced” to eat!

------------- Conditions Caveat -------------

Do Not Assume Things Are Going to Be The Same from one Run, Trail,
Descent Path, Sector or any portion thereof, to the next.

Variable Surfaces can be around the Next Bend, over the Next Crest, down
the Next Pitch due to Dynamic Weather and Traffic Patterns.

Be Careful on the Steeps! Soft Sections on Steep Pitches can Begin to “Flow”,
resulting in Slick Zones that might not have been there the last time you
took any given example.

Allow extra space for Manoeuvring. There are Beginners and many Holiday Guests
New to the Mountain and they may make sudden or unpredictable changes
in Speed and/or Direction.

Scan Frequently and keep the eye’s in the back of your head alert.

------------- end of Caveat -------------

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

GoTo: Archive, Search Reports by Date: Index: http://tinyurl.com/yktelmu

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
