T360 Early Eve. Apres Ski Intro @ 6:57 P.M.
Today Was A Gift From Mother Nature Herself,
In Both Beauty And Performance...

We hope to be able to post more Apres Ski in the Middle of The Night Shift, after
mid-night, but we wanted to get this brief intro here for those who may be
considering Tremblant for tomorrow or the weekend...
If you look at the Top Pic. Above and the first pic. in the post below,
you’ll see they are from nearly the same place. Notwithstanding the
locational similarity, it would be hard to imagine the difference one
day can make in conditions, could be so apparent(**).
To begin with, it was as if you woke up on February 5th, and had
you found exactly this day, back then, you would have had a perfectly
decent, very seasonally “Winter” day, and that is precisely what it
felt like all day today at Tremblant.
Then there was the Performance... Almost Flawless surfaces, very well
groomed, and Rocket Fast!!! Super High Traction on All The Groomed
gave you a Race-Car sensation and the slightest edge-set gave you
swift reaction with complete traction... everywhere Groomed. It was
a Blast!
(**)We want to make it clear that yesterday was not a bad day,
rather that today, especially considering "April 5th”, was uniquely
extraordinary, and that’s what made the contrast so evident.
Temps are moving up to a more comfortable
range, just under Zero C tomorrow... Go If You Can!
Conditions generally tend to sweeten with rising temps
so we think you'll be able to take todays “Wonderful" and
convert that to “Amazing" for tomorrow!
Don’t sit on that fence you see up there, just quietly organize
what you need to, and be ready to head out early!
Below:
Here is a Versant Nord, North Side Sunny Snow White Sample
and the Groomed surfaces in this domain were the equal of
the very top handful of Excellent Seasonal Days. Another
very important benchmark, reporting “Best Of” Trail Surfaces
on April 5th???
Theoretically, it’s probably safe to expect the un-expected because Mother Nature
can throw a Cold Fit or a Hot Flash in a few hours that no one saw coming
either way, but in the event the Forecasts are all accurate, there’s a very
fine finale for this season unfolding right now and if you miss it, you’re
missing some Historic Tremblant April Skiing/Boarding.

The Clouds began to move off, and there was a sliver of Sunlit Horizon
that showed brightness on the White Ice of Lac Tremblant at Last Run Yesterday.
A Very Positive Hint for the “Sunny” part of todays forecast!
Firstly, we need to categorically state that in the Groomed Terrain, the
vast majority is in amazingly fine “Winter-Like" condition for almost any
Mid-Seasonal Date, let alone for April 5th, which is supposed to be “Spring”.
Where Grooming has compacted all the recent snowfall, the performance
is superb across all Skill Level Rated Surfaces. The Coverage is Wall-To-Wall,
there are almost no glitches or hazards, and you might just be given to thinking
you woke up back in the middle of February today.
However, in the Un-Groomed...
Today inherits a very unusual profile from yesterday due to the remainders
of the Icy Crust that to variable degrees, is holding back the utility of the
Un-Groomed, Sous Bois, Glade and Hors Piste Terrain.
Normally, we have zero trouble adapting to deep fresh snowfall with
our short radius Slalom Skis that in a pinch can go just about anywhere,
but not yesterday... the Icy Crust was over top of a soft earlier fallen layer,
so when you attempted descent, once the Skis were submerged below the
icy layer, it was almost impossible to leverage the tips back up through the
crust. If there was not a traffic-broken gap in that crust to jump into a turn
from, you were on a straight line to either a stop or a fall.
Above: Yesterday was the most unusual day we’ve had on Versant Nord,
the North Side, Le Tunnel, in decades. It looked like really easily
navigable Fresh Powder, but Mother Nature had very cleverly covered
it with a thick mantle of Ice-Crust that was most unusually strong.
In an odd sort-of way it was kind-of fun, or at least amusing, with
a Sit-Down controlled fall every couple of turns to avoid Tree Encounters.
The depth of the snow underneath was enough to soften all your tumbles,
so it was like a comedy of repeatedly awkward and very ugly fall-turns
and frankly, we were a bit embarrassed to look so amateur, but the reality
was there were no other ways to get down.
If you had very soft and long Skis you could ride it out much better
with tips that could maybe stay on top for two or three turns, but
even then, gravity powered speed over the Ice-Crust would soon
overcome your reflex capability and there were tumbles occurring
everywhere in the Fresh Tracks of the Un-Groomed as a result.
Very, very, rare circumstances on that score. We might never see a day
exactly like that more than once or twice in any season, and in some
seasons, not at all.
It should be noted that our favourite Upper Versant Nord, North side
diagnostic Trails of Le Tunnel, Banzai Bas, Lower and Marie-Claude Asselin
Bas, Lower get comparatively very little traffic, so they are probably quite
far down the Grooming Priority List, however, if and when they are done,
they will respond with an instantly significant increase in excellent utility.
A single pass with a Groomer makes them come alive, especially now when they
are covered with tons of abundant natural snow, so watch out for the Icons
on the list. These trails are way underused, and way undervalued by the Public
for the quality and ease they typically exhibit when groomed.
Otherwise...
For the most part, while it snowed mostly over the last 24hrs.,
there were intermittent vision problems with yesterdays mix of
airborne particles that frequently had “wet” characteristics, and
to the great relief of those back for today, that is in the past.
Always Fun In The Parks!
No Matter The Weather, No Matter The Snowfall-Filtered Photography...
If They’re Open, There’s Always Fun In The Parks!!!

Above: Friends out for the day volunteered to show us some “Air”
for the sake of documenting some of the very reliable Park
Features that are very carefully maintained every single
day. We think that’s a vitally important part to mention
because no matter the weather, the Park Staff deliver
very fine Module Lines every single day without fail.
If They Are Open, They’re Great!
Weather Notes:
The Return Of The Polar Vortex!, April Style!
At least it’s not the -30’s C of January/February Polar Vortex’s
but no doubt any -“Teens” C in April feels unusual. The benefit
is the extension of durable, Winter-Like conditions.
The nasty part of this Hourly Forecast for today is the Wind.
Gusty, Blustery, and Cold. Not exactly “April” Spring Skiing
terms we like, but here you have it for today anyway.
Definitely All Winter in feel and substance for the day.
Conditions Notes:
KKkkkoool, but FFFffast !!!

Thanks for your visit today!
Refresh Often, or come back later,
but if possible, go Skiing as Soon
and as often as you can.
With a seasons worth of 530cm’s in
the mix of the Base, there is Excellence
in the Groomed Surfaces every single day. Period.
