Your Best Friends On The Mountain When Conditions Are “Dynamic”,
(#)i.e., changing, developing, different in either Open Status or with
evolving daily weather... Like Today!

Tremblant’s unique Info.Ski Team can be seen doing Ski Conditions research
all over the Mountain, all day. Where ever you find them, you can freely approach
them for Intel on conditions or Trail Status. They are “Radio Controlled”, so
immediate access to the answers for questions you may have are instantly
available. Their main base of Outdoor operations is at the Summit, Gondola
Off-Load Zone, so any time you take a lift to the top, you can get the very
latest Mountain Intel.

It’s an Around The Clock Recovery Day Operation
for Mountain Crews at Tremblant today.

18 hours ago it was +6C and raining, now it’s -10C,
consequently the “Laws Of Physics” apply, so...

it might be fair to say conditions may be “Firm”.

Of course there may be icy bits too.

However... There will also be some good carving zones where
there are durable groomed top layers due to the focus Mountain
Crews put on the Green/Blue trail priorities that give Beginners and
Intermediates terrain of the best possible quality for learning on.
Compared to the days of months and weeks past, it will be limited,
but Mountain Crews will be working on expanding the scope of recovered
quality as quickly and efficiently as possible.

The durability of good conditions today may be somewhat dependant
on at least 2 factors, the first being traffic volume, the second being
the possibility that grooming may have been able to get through the
rain generated icy/crusty surface barrier into the dense snow below
that still has a tremendous support in the form of retained very deep
frost held in the mass of the Mountain.

The point we’re getting at with the second item above is that with
such a well established frost substrate, one day of warm and rainy
can not penetrate to any significant degree, so water typically runs
off, rather than saturating. If grooming can chew up whatever resulting
crust was left, then there’s a good chance of having a decent loose top
layer. It might be more granular than usual, but that’s way better than
icy where ever it’s possible.

Weather Notes:

We think it’s safe to say the typical “Spring” daily temperature
profiles are pretty well represented in the long range outlook
below.

It is important to note that there are no “+” ,“Plus” above
Zero C/32F overnights though, so as Spring forecasts go,
its nothing more or less than usual, and that signifies the
essential stability of the Trail Base throughout this forecast
period with night-time Sub-Zero's.

If you take into account the usual Elevation Differential of -4C,
at Mountain heights, this next period could maybe have good natural
snow production(?) and/or, some very finely favoured afternoons
when softness begins to build over the groomed array(?).

If you’ve concluded there are “Wild Cards” in the forecast,
you get 10 Gold Stars.

Attention Regional Tremblant Weekend Warriors:

Way too early to predict exact detail for this, however...
there could be great natural snowfall potential If, If, If...
the path of the warmer bits is far enough South in order
to facilitate Snow up here at North.

Take another look at the Friday to Saturday drop in the forecast
temps above. What this indicates to us is the snowfall potential
developing as the system moves from west to east.

Weekend Planners: Allow Extra Transit Time for safe driving.

Conditions Notes:

Experts can take care of themselves, so other than repeating
the obvious that well tuned edges will be a singularly important
asset, there could possibly be the cleared openings of the initial
“Progressive” listed “Black" trails and maybe others as well? There
are Wild Cards just about everywhere, we’ll just have to wait and
see how progress moves forward.

We want to make this very clear:

Good conditions will typically favour Green and Blue rated
Groomed Trails in this, or any other challenging weather scenario.
Mountain Crews always seem to prioritize Green trails first in our
observations, and of course, that makes perfect sense. Beginners
and Intermediates are the group that legitimately need the most
support in ease of conditions. This is especially critical because
there are always “Newbies” or Nearly-Newbies and providing
that very impressionable group with a good experience can
make the difference about continuing on with the sport.
Every day a “Newbie” has a good day is a day that motivates
them to come back.

We respectfully submit that this is a situation where Tremblant shines.
Every day the Mountain is open has the easiest, best, most forgiving,
Beginner/Intermediate conditions possible and today will not be an
exception.

It is possible that the Soleil Sector may be back on line quickest.
We don’t know how quick is quick, but maybe(?) tomorrow?

It is possible there may be revised Open Trail
stat’s so if you are on the Mountain today,
consult with the Tremblant Info.Ski Crews
on a run-by-run basis if need be.

P.S. If you are reading this at some future date as part of your
research into Ski Holiday time periods around the early part of
March, be advised that rainy weather can happen randomly
anytime, and any month. All experienced skiers have sooner
or later run into a “January Thaw” for example. Early March
is usually quite snowy here at Tremblant, so we would certainly
not be expecting this weather now, but Mother Nature has plans
that are sometimes at odds with Humans, so that’s the way it goes.

We think the important point is that while no one can control the
weather, the Tremblant difference is how quickly Mountain Op’s
responds, so we think you’ll see a significant level of restored
Open Trails recorded tomorrow, just as you will find in most
similar events we’ve endured in the history of this journal record.

Part of the reason trails can be recovered so quickly is the frost
in the base that, as we discuss above in this post, is a functional barrier
and that is a particularly reliable feature here due to northerly
latitude that generally gives Tremblant a consistently more durable
span of consecutive sub-zero C/below 32F winter days.
Fortunately, when it comes to authentic Winter, “North” is typically
an advantage over “South”.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

GoTo: Archive, Search Reports by Date: Index: http://tinyurl.com/yktelmu

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
