T360 Apres Ski Edit Under Construct at 10:34 P.M.
We think there is legitimate hope that the immediate
future weather may not be too bad, and maybe, just maybe,
there could be a bunch of snow???
We Could Be Wrong.
Is there any chance we could be correct?
Firstly, the "this afternoon" forecast vs. reality,
represented by the following 4 items.

It Is Clearly Not +2 C
What’s Going On With The Weather ?????
Very fortunately, the +2C weather forecast was wrong,
and it ended up being -3C degrees cooler at -1C. This was a
critically important benefit for the most basic retention and
quality of all-day snowy trail surfaces.

If it was anything above Zero C, these 2 pic’s, 1 above and 1 below, would
not look like this, heat would have melted the snowy/frosty off of objects
in minutes.

the Mountain all day... again...

Otherwise B) Skiing today was great for Experts,
Great on a select basis for Intermediates due to
some traffic generated moguls, Great for Beginners
on Nansen Haut/Upper which gets our “Primo Smooth
Cruising Award du Jour.” ... again. Nansen Haut/Upper
was very close to flawless.

shot well below the Summit peak. This is more evidence telling you
everything you need to know about keeping the feel of “winter” in the
experience of the day.
Below: The obscured atmospheric conditions made long telephoto
action shots nearly impossible, so sorry for this below. We’re
putting it in anyway because it represents the “Stand On ‘Em
Sideways” carving performance grip that was universal.

Critical Differences:
When it comes to the “Laws Of Physics”, any fraction of 1 degree Celsius
below Zero C, is enough to freeze water, or in our case, keep snow, as snow.
What we have for today is that critical difference necessary to retain
our precious snow when the Sud/South Base is at +1C(see our weather
notes below).

Weather Notes:
We frequently refer to what we call the “Elevation Differential”
which we define as the inherent drop in temperatures between
the warmer base levels and the cooler Mountain Elevations.
The typical spread from the Sud/South Resort Base to the Summit
is -4C Cooler at the Summit.
So far today, that is slightly less at -3C, but it’s still on the
right side of cool, and we’ll just have to hope we can keep
that for as long as possible.
These temp. swings across Zero C are totally normal for “Fall”
and we need to remember that winter does not officially start
for another 3 weeks, so we’re very lucky to be skiing so far in
advance.
Another Ongoing Advantage Of This Seasons Opening Sequence:
Low Wind Speed. One of our very most favourite weather factors is
low wind speed. At anything above Zero C, it’s a “Blow Dryer”.
At anything below Zero C, it’s “Wind Chill”. Low-to-no wind speed
has been a great asset for 3 days in a row.

Conditions Notes:
Continued “Spring-Like” Skiing/Boarding with a soft,
but hopefully still fast trail base across the whole range
of open terrain.
There may be a tendency to see evolving traffic generated moguls
on some steeper trail sectors such as the Nansen Pitch or the bottom
pitch of Beauvallon Haut(upper), adjacent to the Progression Terrain Park
entrance.
Watch out for similar potential moguls at converging trial intersections
such as occurs at the TGV Quad Base zone.
An Important Reminder:
It’s Opening Weekend with limited early season terrain that is being
shared by all skill levels, so Experts should reduce speed in Green
and Blue Rated Terrain and give wide margins of passing for safety
around the unpredictable directional changes of Beginners and
Intermediates.
