12/1/20 #Tremblant Conditions

T360 Evening Prime-Time Apres Ski Edit, Under Construct @ 8:58 P.M.

We are very pleased to report that the Weather Forecast for today
was partially wrong. It called for rain all day, however the morning
and early afternoon were a far better, different reality.

Below is a T360 Fan submitted photo taken this morning, clearly
showing magnificent sunshine while skiing above the clouds on
Versant Sud/South Side, Beauvallon Haut, Upper, just above the
TGV Quad base.

The Skiing was very fine until...

In an authoritative Mother Nature way, at 1:30 P.M. there were very
loud thunder-booms that were an immediate signal that all lifts would
quickly unload and come to a halt. It began to rain at that point.
Ultimately, the delays caused by lightning and thunder cause the
closure of the Mountain for the day. There were a handful of skiers
that got stuck at the Nord/North Base and Tremblant immediately
dispatched a bus to the Nord/North Base to return them to the Resort
Base.

The sky looked like it was boiling and we were glad to see that safety
comes first, the bus ride around is such a small inconvenience to be
safely off a steel seat, hanging off a steel wire-cable, strung over steel
towers, in an albeit very rare lightning storm.

Those black clouds had lightning and thunder in them.

For tomorrow... A New Day!, With SNOW in the forecast!!!

Mild temp’s at +1C holding on for the daytime tomorrow, so what
that tells us is that upper atmospheric air strata are cooling off and
we think that’s what is capable of making snow when ground level
temps are at the freezing mark. Trail snow surfaces could firm up
if the Summit goes much below Zero C, so you may want to lay
a quick file to edges. If you are a regional day skier coming for
Thursday, the Wednesday overnight could get down to -12C,
so going from todays warm and wet makes edge tuning for Thursday
a critical performance element.

12(*) Open Trails on Sud/South, Nord/North, Both Ski-out to Base, at #Tremblant.

This is what your friends at Tremblant
have been doing since Opening Day.

What was different about yesterday was intermittent fog at the
Summit, instead of constant fog, so long views, even with a grey,
overcast ambiance, were periodically possible.

Despite immense action/panoramic photography challenges
The Skiing has been great all the way through.

The photo sequence you see above is way far away from perfect,
there are all kinds of image flaws due to high speed following
action shots in overcast-grey, flat-light, weird-contrast ambient
conditions, but... if anything comes through that suggests
it’s fun to go fast at Tremblant right now, that’s the quality
we want to convey with pin-sharp focus.

It’s been foggy and overcast at Tremblant since the moment
it opened. At the near Zero C temp’s we’ve been experiencing,
that’s a good thing because the last thing snow covered trail
surfaces need when they are near the freezing mark is solar
microwave heat action.

So, while the Skiing has been technically very fine within
the rated skill levels, the ability to capture that with good
quality images has been severely inhibited due to the lack
of practical camera gear that can function well under these
conditions. In the final analysis yesterday, for example, the
late day snowy/sleety/rainy mix became overwhelming for
photography. Just like the last 4 days the camera got very wet
and it was very difficult to keep the lens clean from water smearing.

The bottom line on this point is...
We want you to know that the performance has been wonderful
even though it’s been challenging to show it the way we’d like to.

Summit Clarity has been “Intermittent” ...

New to Tremblant? First time out this season?
T360 recommends consultations with the Info.Ski
Crews at the Summit. They have the very best
knowledge of terrain and conditions to point you
to the right trails for your skills and abilities.

Weather Notes:

A review of the hourly icons below shows variable intensity
levels of precip. as bands of active weather pass through the
area. What this means is that not only may the rainy bits be
short or light, but because they are in bands, some may actually
by-pass the Mountain altogether. It is possible that extensive
time periods may remain completely dry. It has also been our
observation that when the cloud ceiling is low, appearing as fog
over the summit, there is not much rain at all as rain tends to fall
below cloud, not so much in the cloud.

Of course... we’re overjoyed to see the end-of-day return to snowfall
icons, and even more encouraged to see those snowfall icons extended
out over the next two weeks.

Conditions Notes:

The great skiing we’ve been enjoying will be extended through today,
but you may be needing some proactive gear deployments to stay dry...

Our “GoTo” reference for coping effectively with the potentially
damp elements of days like today...
