12/11/20 #Tremblant Conditions

T360 Late Night Apres Ski Edit, Under Construct @ 10:58 P.M.

If You Virtually Double The Open Terrain Overnight,
It’s A Big Day On The Mountain.

For us, the most significant Opening today was
Nansen Bas/Lower, for 2 reasons.

1) Exceptional Initial Quality. In our opinion, one of the very
top openings for Nansen Bas/Lower, ever.

We’ve had other seasons with similar snow surface quality
but on narrower tracks. Today, Nansen Bas/Lower was
wall-to-wall white winter wonderful.

2) The immense benefit to all Mountain Guests is in having
a legitimate Beginner pathway to the Resort Base that does
not require Beginners to transit the complex terrain at and
below the TGV Quad Base. It makes it far safer for Beginners
and it reduces traffic and wear stress at the TGV Base.

Sorry, it was so foggy photography was impractical,
but above is a pic. taken in a relative clear moment at
the Mi Chemin intersection, upper entrance gate to
Nansen Bas/Lower.

The second item we have to cover tonight is the
current Covid-19 situation where the whole
municipality of Tremblant has now been declared a
“Red Zone”, effective this coming Monday.

We have heard many concerns about the future
status of any/all Quebec Ski Areas being effected
through the Christmas/New Years Holiday time
period. None are confirmed, but evidently,
many are being considered?

As soon as we hear, we’ll post it ASAP.

23(*) Open Trails on Sud/South, Nord/North, Summit-To-Base Sectors at #Tremblant.

WHOOOOOO HOOOOOOO!!!!

From 12 to 23 OVERNIGHT!

HERE”S THE BIG JUMP IN OPEN TRAILS
WE”VE BEEN WAITING FOR!!!!!

Leading off with Beauchemin Haut/Upper
as only one example, and as a case study
that we think will be typical of other new
trail openings.

Please See our “Conditions Notes” below for some
text descriptive reference to Beauchemin Haut/Upper
that we think may also be applicable as a general reference
to other new terrain openings.

When Now Combined With Beauchemin Bas/Lower,
One Of The Very Best Total Mountain Vertical Descent
Paths At Tremblant Is Fully Open For The Season!

Above and Below:
We recommend a close examination of the Open Trails on the
Official PDF. Listing, archived below. What it tells us, when combined
with actual Mountain reporting field observations, is that there is
significant potential for further terrain openings almost immediately.
For example as a case study, on Versant Nord/North side, the Expo
Quad Peak zone has 2 lateral exit descents, 1 is Gagnon to Beauchemin,
the other side is Vanier to Duncan. Currently it is only shown as Open
with Sissy Schuss and Gagnon. That would only allow lapping on
Beauchemin Bas/Lower because the Sissy Schuss reference is to only the
top portion that leads out to Gagnon. The majority of Sissy Schuss to the
bottom of its runout to Beauchemin Bas/Lower has not been developed
with snowmaking yet. So, when you look at this with the other evidence,
which is the work on Vanier, plus, all the work on Duncan Haut/Upper
and Bas/Lower, from experience, one could only conclude that the opening
of Duncan is imminent.

Weather Notes:

You can tell from both the forecasts and the pictures that
so far in this new season, it has been predominantly overcast.
That has made photography in flat, low contrast light a huge
challenge, but we’re actually thankful because the cloud has
acted many times as an umbrella to keep solar microwave
action off the slopes when temps are hovering at anywhere
around Zero C/32 F. It looks like that’s the case again today.

------------ Environment Canada Special Weather Statement --------------

Of course... we’re hoping that Tremblant’s northerly latitude
and naturally cooler temps may influence the precipitation to
be snow up here as it so often does.

Conditions Notes:

The Mountain got the speed back. Two days ago, the then new snowfall
had a slightly higher friction rate. Yesterday, that was noticeably different
again, in that there was less friction and more natural glide and sustained
speed back in the surfaces. We hope that remains the same today, but
we want to point out that these are small differences that you will probably
only notice if you are here on consecutive days. If you are attending for any
single day you may feel a slight “Sticky” sensation, but you will not necessarily
notice even that... however, we do recommend waxing or coating Ski/Board
bases with the correct temp. range products if you want optimized glide
performance any time the temps float near Zero C.

Continuing to use the newly opened Versant Nord/North side Beauchemin
Haut/Upper as a case study, the initial opening trail surface was generally
quite good. There are mixed particle sizes ranging from mostly super-fine small,
to some way lesser zones of golf-ball size, but overall, it is an impressively
consistent high performance surface that just wants a day or two of skiers
and boarders traffic, plus another night or two of grooming to get to even
better conditions. Do your part to get out and help the effort! We call it a
“Break-in” period, it’s very short, and trails respond very quickly in a positive
way to traffic use. There was not a single speck of icy we could find in
the descent lines we used on Beauchemin Haut/Upper, it’s all snow, all go.

We would project similar situations in all other newly opening terrain,
so if you are coming out in the next few days for the first time this season,
we think you will be pleasantly surprised by both the scope and quality
you’ll find at this still very early stage of the new season.

The pre-existing groomed, open terrain continues on at very
fine quality across all rated skill levels. There are some minor
glitches such as ground debris mixed up to surface levels by
grooming, or small icy bits from previous warm spells, but they
are typical of early season and they are all very small in relation
to the vast majority of very well maintained surfaces.

PLEASE ALSO NOTE THE 2 MOST IMPORTANT “PROGRESSIVE”
OPENINGS: VERSANT SUD/SOUTH SIDE, NANSEN BAS/LOWER,
AND TASCHEREAU.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
