2/26/22 #Tremblant Conditions

T360 Late Night Apres Ski Edit Under Construct @ 10:57 P.M.

Basically, it went from really cool, relatively calm and sunny
to really snowy, warmer and windy.

Eventually, the windy overcast with the snowy part
made it seem almost as cool anyway.

The vast majority of the skiing was very fine, however there were
lingering icy bits, even though they were small. We would also have
to say that perceptions of icy were directly proportional to Ski/Board
edge tuning.

We do constant context questioning when we hear complaints of icy and
in 3 of 3 chairlift exchanges regarding “icy" today, the respondents could
not recall when their edges had been last done and none of the 3 could
say it was within this season.

This is “nuts”.

If you ignore your equipment on a long-term basis, it should come as
no surprise that your control will be far below optimal during or after
adverse weather cycles.

We wrote below in the original post about a blended grooming product
and we can report that that was exactly what we had the benefits of
all day, even on an increasing level with the vigorous newly falling snow
of the afternoon.

This new snowfall was especially sweet on the first time seasonally
groomed Versant Nord/North Side trail # 66, Le Tunnel, where there
was a beautiful satin-like coating over the immaculate smoothness
of this magnificent, pure, fall-line descent. Below you see from left
to right, Marie-Claude Asselin(64), Banzai(65), and Le Tunnel(66),
the Tremblant trinity of what we consider to be the ultimate seasonal
grooming refinement that is symbolic of overall groomed excellence
having been attained across the entire Mountain Alpine Trail Network.

More in the morning, but if you can get here, make all
the excuses you need to, and leave for Tremblant A.S.A.P.

It May Be A Wee Bit KKkkool Out This Morning,
But It’s Going To Warm Up X 24C, And Here’s What You’ll Get...

“Surreal Beauty, Super Smooth Easy Performance."

There has been a 10cm natural snowfall accumulation within the
last 24 hours, so that should be an excellent enhancement to the
blended grooming product, especially where the breezes it came
on yesterday shaped the wind-drifted deposit zones favourably.

The temps this new snow fell at were also on the cooler range
so it is very light and dry. What we’re hoping for is the
thoroughness of the grooming mix that should have ground
up the courser particulate from yesterday to a finer size, plus
adding in the fresh new snow. With luck, this may yield a higher
degree of integrated uniformity in a deeper top layer of loose,
skiable snow over the solid base.

If that all happens, we could see a significant increase in the
performance capability within the Blue/Intermediate and
Black/Expert open, groomed terrain that would allow for more
aggressive edge-sets and retained lateral grip at speeds, than
the very firm technical conditions of the past couple of days.

Weather Notes:

The temp is actually still going down and at 7:30 A.M. it’s showing -32C,
so if you look at the projected high for this afternoon at up to -8C, that’s
a 24C rise which is an almost astounding difference and the critical reason
we say defer starting early on days like today that show such dramatic
forecast change.

Conditions Notes:

O.K. Class... 10 Gold Stars For Any Tremblant Student
Who Can Identify The Reason Today May Be The “Holy Grail”
Of Seasonal Grooming Refinement.

“Though They Be Small, Their Symbolic Significance Be Huge.”

Not to mention that they have some of the most beautiful
natural scenery on Planet Earth...

For the first time this season, Trails #’s 64, 65, and Big Big Bonus... #66,
that’s Marie-Claude Asselin, Banzai, and Le Tunnel, are all showing “Groomed”
icons. With nearly 4 metres of natural snow base they should be spectacular.
More on this point later on, however...

On an overall basis for the “Groomed” category...

What this entire situation means with the remaining closures being
primarily within the range of Sous Bois/Hors Piste and Un-Groomed
following the recent freezing rain episode, is that the groomed trail
category has been by far the easiest group to recover, reopen, and even
develop new refinements in due to the benefits of accessible blending.
It might even be fair to say that the groomed category has been able to
see an unusually favourable net outcome from all this weather because
of the overall contribution to the durable quality of the base that has
evolved from well below average daily temp coolness. We think this
foundational groomed base quality could well carry over for every single
day of the remaining season with very little loss from the thermal effects
of spring.

Beginners Take Note:

We wrote above about anticipations for Blue’s and Black’s but
it should be noted that the Green’s/Easiest trails have been
excellent for Beginner learning speeds all along. The key there
is “speed” because even when the loose top layers might be a
bit on the thin side, there remains more than adequate grip,
maybe even easy grip, for Beginners who will actually find
advantage with such low surface resistance combined with
amazing total vertical smoothness for facilitating directional
and braking maneuvers at lower speed.

As a Beginner, when you can practice turns, braking and speed
control for single, uninterrupted runs of 6 kilometres on the
smoothness equivalent of a golf course fairway, your learning
curve will jump up to levels you never thought possible.

Nansen:

"6 Kilometres On The Smoothness Equivalent Of A Golf Course Fairway"

If you’re reading this record in some future September because
you’ve decided you want to really learn how to ski, this is exactly
why you book Tremblant with total and complete confidence.

Very Important Repeat:

"As a Beginner, when you can practice turns, braking and speed
control for single, uninterrupted runs of 6 kilometres on the
smoothness equivalent of a golf course fairway, your learning
curve will jump up to levels you never thought possible."

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
