A year ago today we had 57 Open Trails over 353 cm’s of base,
today we have 94 Open trails over 526 cm’s of base, so that
statistical comparison alone should immediately make it evident
why you want to find yourself back at Tremblant A.S.A.P., if possible.
This is simply a great opportunity to have access to such an abundance
of high quality terrain as we start into the last 3 weeks of the season.

Weather Notes:

It’s A Very Nice January Day, At The End Of March!

There is a very high probability that this will be the last blast
of significant sub-zero C winter-like weather/temp’s for the
remainder of the season. As we detail below, we think it’s going
to be remembered as an essential reset element that should help
to stabilize the base right on up to closing day. As an additional
support mechanism, the consistent forecast of overnight sub-zero’s
is very effective insurance because no matter what happens during
the days, if it resets the base every night, loss is minimized and
all we have to deal with are the typical spring cycles of firm mornings
and soft afternoons. The difference this season is going to be the
extended degree of coverage generated by 173 cm’s more snow
over last year on this date, not to mention the deep frost into the
Mountains mass from considerably cooler average ambient temps.

Statistically, it’s been a cooler than average season,
and here’s a great sample of the benefit, superb coverage
across virtually the entire open trail range.

Above:
Trail # 97, “LTE”, short form for "Lowell Thomas Express” is the name-sake
run under the new Lowell Thomas High Speed Detachable Quad that was
installed 3 seasons ago. At that time, this trail was widened to quite near
double what it had been for decades prior, as it had existed below the old,
and very slow Lowell Thomas fixed triple chair lift. The current widening and
proper trimming and levelling to develop this trail has made it a legitimate
feature mogul run. We have more pic’s to process from LTE, so there will be
more on this one tomorrow.

The new Lowell T Quad has reshaped traffic flows over the entire Mountain
as the 4 minute efficiency of its accent has renewed the entire sector as a
destination within the Mountain footprint that is worthy of many repeat
descent cycles. The terrain serviced by this lift includes some of the very
best examples of every single category of open terrain at Tremblant, from
the easy beauty of “Green” P’tit Bonheur, to the Sous Bois/Hors Piste/Un-Groomed
challenge of Le Tunnel, this sector is like it’s own mini Ski-Area with literally
something for everyone.

Conditions Notes:

Due to this being day-2 of a re-freeze winter reset cycle, and
day-2 of sequential refroze grooming processing, we think there
should be a noticeable increase in the scope of refinement across
a broader range of skill level challenges.

Basically, the machine work should have gotten further into the
resolidified base to produce more consistent depths of loose top
layers, and the availability of that icy-free skiable base should be
over a larger square area. This is an absolutely normal expansion
of grooming and we think that because it’s a work-week Monday
after all the school breaks are over, all this quality is probably going
to have very light traffic, so all-day durability is expected to be excellent.

As far as the “Progressive” openings largely within the Sous Bois/Bush
and Un-Groomed, it is apparent that the Ski Patrol does see potential
for re-openings and we think that is due in large part to the fresh
snowfall that should cushion the top layers from the re-chilled base.

Keep an eye out for the ropes to come down on many of these trails
but compared to when everything was soft there will be less “Forgiveness”
in this group, so genuine Experts only please.

---------------- 9:23 A.M. Insert Update: ----------------------

Wow, -20C on March 28 might be the coolest we’ve ever
seen for this date, but the benefit is the degree of frost
reset into the trail base that is going to last for days and
days and days.

This is an instant guaranty of future scope of coverage.
