Yesterday “Winter”,

Today... We’re Not Sure?

The only time you see these “desert sand waves” formed in snow
is when the crystalline structure is extremely dry and very fine,
as in small, simultaneously accompanied by a very low humidity
and forceful winter wind. Those factors combined in the 2 past
overnights. We had the benefit of that all day yesterday again and
it is the basis for whatever soup du jour Mother Nature eventually
decides to cook up for today.

On paper, so-to-speak, because of the hourly forecast icons below,
it does not look so good, however...

Based on the snow quality carry-over you can see from yesterday,
technically speaking, it really should be very fine spring skiing just
because it is going to be warm enough to soften everything, and
with the re-chilled base extensively prepared with prior grooming,
there is no reason to be otherwise when the default is the very
common trail surface smoothness.

Of course the atmospheric conditions could be wet,
but even then, the rainy component is forecast at “light”
and that typically means small bands of active weather
passing over, passing around, passing by the Mountain
with the distinct possibility it could be dry over the trail
network for most of, if not all day.

Unfortunately, there is also the possibility of lightning and
thunderstorms this afternoon. With any luck, that part may
not start until Apres Ski, maybe.

Forecast Summary... Too many “Wild Cards” to call.

Regardless Of Weather...

The Kidz Will Always Be Having Fun!

Weather Notes:

With the predicted high temp value just touching double digit “+”,
it is quite likely that any effects of freezing rain will be quickly
rendered out by Mother Nature herself. As this is being written
there is a complete absence of precipitation and tints of brightness
in the sky above, so in the very immediate hours it just looks like
it’s going to be a warm overcast. Mother Nature reserves the right
to change on very short notice though, so all we can do is go for the ride.

--------------- 2:30 P.M. Insert Update: ------------------

There have been some very brief rainy bits, in our experience no more than
about 15-20 mins of sort of a spitting rain of low intensity. That does not
mean there have not been higher intensities, but if there were, we were
lucky to be elsewhere. Thunderstorms? What thunderstorms, at least so-far...
Sunny bits? What’s with that? There were no blue sky sunny bits in the
forecast... Evidently Mother Nature reserves the right to change plans
without advance notice...

Conditions Notes:

When there are 82 “Progressive” status openings out of forecast 94
eventual openings, all subject to Ski-Patrol evaluations, it may be
somewhat predictable to expect there could be many running
changes to the actual open trails that officially start with 12.

There is only one key strategy on the Mountain in this situation...

Check With The Info.Ski Crews As Often As Needed,
Including On A Run-By-Run Basis.

They Will Point You To The Right Trails.

Otherwise, with this much thermal input, we don’t think there
is any other possibility than vast expanses of genuine spring
soft conditions across all actual opened groomed skill level ratings.

There is a huge amount of frost still firmly embedded within
the mass of the Mountain that is acting as a time released
stabilizer from the inside out, so that is a very effective barrier
to any surface thaw beyond a handful of cm’s/3 to 4 inches.

It should be noted that it will be the soft, malleable top layer of
trail snow that is the source of all the fun today. Typically it will
have loads of lateral grip capability and because it is supported
from below by the cold base, we forecast very durable, mogul
resistant, all day smoothness with good natural speed.

In the Sous Bois/Hors Piste/Un-Groomed, another a la Carte
scenario that is highly individualistic on a zone by zone basis.
It got down to -6C at the Summit last night, so it could be icy
until some daytime heat works in, but once that occurs, there
could be a whole big bunch of fun in the bush because it would
be a fairly shallow soft top over a very firm mantle which would
be very easy turning. Please see our Sous Bois report from yesterday
as the basis for easy today, if, if, if, it all opens up.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
