T360 Late Evening Apres Ski Edit Under Construction @ 10:49 P.M.

There were some mid-morning periods of flickering sunshine
however at just around noon, it began to snow at Tremblant.

Pictured above is the main Info.Ski station at the Summit,
just across from the Gondola off-load zone. If you are new
to Tremblant, or simply want the latest status of grooming
or newly opened terrain, you need to stop here to make the
best of your day.

This below is not exactly the “after” shot we wanted to pair with the
Lowell Thomas “before” shot in the original post below, however it is
an excerpt portion of that shot, in it’s groomed, finished condition,
being well used for its intended purpose... Great Skiing!

More on the conditions within the newly opened terrain
expansion of the Versant Nord/North Side Lowell Thomas
Sector in tomorrows edition.

This below is an attempt to illustrate what we talked about
in our original post forecast for the possibilities of shallow,
soft layers over the firm, smooth base. As a matter of fact,
that is exactly what you see here. The carved arch’s of the
ski tracks you see beside the ski tip have sliced through the
soft top layers and engaged with base which is very dense
snow underneath. The lateral grip here was surprisingly
good, beyond what you might have thought with last nights
refreeze, especially with the pitch angle here on Rigodon.

The real bonus in our opinion was how much fun the good grip
was on the lesser Blue and Green trail ratings where aggressive
carving angles were completely reliable across the entire range.

More on all in the morning, but there really is some
extraordinarily fine potential for Monday and you
should go if you can!

Firm, Fast And Fun!

From one day to the next, it’s gone from a daytime high
that just momentarily touched +9 C, to -7 C, so it’s not
hard to see why the “Firm” and “Fast” are there. The fun
part is going to be the reliable performance generated
by the default smooth you should find just about everywhere
there is a grooming icon on the Official Trail Status Data.

The differences in 24 hour temp cycles for cooler Mountain
elevations overnight had a differential of - 8 C which is double
the normal spread. As we have noted in the graphic below, the
fact that the grooming finishing was done well after the refroze
is what we think is going to be the biggest asset for today’s fun.

The Inherent Benefits Of The Sides Of Tremblant.

This shot below is now about 36 hours old and what
we hope to do is get back to this POV for an “after”
shot showing the changes here, but the point of this
“before” shot is to illustrate the inherent benefits of
this Versant Nord/North Side zone that very reliably
gets a drift-over, drift-in, backfilling phenominon
because it is the calmer, lee-side of the South-West
prevailing winds that drive snowfall up the ramp-like
shape of Versant Sud/South, where it settles in, and
drifts downward over this area.

We think this significantly larger ratio of natural snowfall
in this zone is going to be a major contributor to the
overall quality of the blended grooming product for
all the newly opened terrain here.

Conditions Notes:

It is Sunday with a clear, sunny, slightly cool forecast,
after a Saturday with low attendance due to warm, wet
weather, so we can reasonably expect a far larger group
out to make up for yesterday.

The reason that’s important to note is that there may be
more evidence of traffic wear and some exposed base
or icy bits that evolve quickly this morning. The typical
Sunday use pattern is that there is a large initial population,
but that usually shows a rapid decline after about 1:30 P.M.
as a lot of the regional weekend warrior commuters hit the
highways for home early in order to get ready for the work
and school week.

The fact that Saturday was sort of a lost day may motivate
some to stay a bit longer, so we’ll just have to wait to see
how that plays out, but the point is that you will need to be
sensitive to safe control margins around converging trail
intersections, around steeper pitches, or anywhere else
where the loose top layers may be shallow and subject to
being displaced to reveal the firm base below.

We are still at a very early stage of open terrain development
so there are mixed skill levels sharing the spaces and what
we are commonly seeing is enthusiastic speeds that can result
in close calls. This is why we specifically refer above to “safe
control margins”, because too much speed in shared space
where Beginners and less experienced Intermediates can
make completely sudden directional changes is a dangerous
combination.

Default to slow and wide passing margins wherever there
are larger concentrations of other skiers/boarders, please.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
