Biggest New Trail Opening News du Jour...
Versant Nord/North Side Duncan Haut/Upper !
Yippeeeee!!!! Duncan, Summit-To-Base !!!
File Shot Duncan Haut/Upper, Viewed From Expo Quad Peak.
We have written extensively about the virtues of Duncan
over the seasons because it is such an interesting challenge
with respect to variable degrees and lateral inclinations
of it’s fall lines that undergo several evolving pitch angles.
In a sense, it is like a potpourri of a ski run with a complimentary
combination of 2 upper stepped Black Diamond pitches connected
through turns, to a central plateau, more stepped pitches at Blue
challenge and a lower plateau to its base level run-out. Basically,
Duncan complete is a very shallow reverse “S” shape running under
its namesake Duncan Quad. Like many runs on Versant Nord, the
North Side, if taken in a single descent, there are distinct rhythms
linked within it’s topographical profile.
When we talk about lateral inclinations in the fall line we are
specifically referring to the Bas/Lower half that has an obvious
left high side across the fall line along its path. Recent seasons
have seen this portion with snowmaking bumps left as integrated
contour features into its progressive steps giving it a more
pronounced, and definitely very much fun, roller coaster effect.
If you consider the principle Summit-To-Base descents
as Sud/South Beauvallon and Nansen, Nord/North
Beauchemin and Duncan, we now have all of what
we could call “The Big 4”.
Each of them has their own unique character, but they
all offer the opportunity to make a singular, uninterrupted
run, top to bottom. This can be a fun at any time, but
if time-allowed, really important if there’s 10 minutes
left to catch “Last Run”.

Versant Sud/South Side Summit Sector Trail # 24, Ryan Haut/Upper,
Open since Christmas Eve.
Weather Notes:
Cool, but not too cold, and still very little wind which
continues to be a huge advantage.
Beyond today we’ve already had Q’s regarding the
upcoming forecast warm/wet spell and we want
to point out that at this stage the low single digit
“+” value temps at the Sud/South base could
all be at, or just below Zero C at typically cooler
elevations. That means there is also potential
for precipitation over the trail network could be
all or predominantly snow. It is too early to worry
about any of that now and it should not stop any
Holiday ski planning because the conditions will
be great throughout, maybe a bit spring-like,
but great anyway.
Conditions Notes:
In The Groomed:
Very fine to excellent in all the pre-existing groomed
inventory that’s been open for almost as long as a
month now. The newly opened groomed will likely
be the typical machine generated surfaces of mixed
initial particle sizes that may seem a bit on the course
side until they have had a few days of break-in and
nightly grooming refinements.
In the Sous Bois/Hors Piste/Glades and Un-Groomed:
There should still be some fresh lines, however you’ll
probably have to go further out to find them and they’ll
be shorter. The tracked up Sous Bois will already be
well shaped into centre line bump paths but it should
still be easy for legitimate Experts to find forgiving
conditions on the outboard sides.

Archival Copy Of Official Daily Message:
Bonjour Tremblant! Today, we plan to open 70 trails across
our 4 sectors. The conditions are excellent! The forecasted
temperatures will be a bit colder today, so keep in mind that
some areas will be undergoing snowmaking.
With the return of colder weather, snowmaking will resume
in several areas of the mountain. We are optimistic with our
plan and hope to open several new slopes soon!
