Posted Below as “Reply”, but first, this Introduction...
McCulloch was Restricted Access due to the Race Events there over the weekend.
Consequently, this view above is looking over the Summit Crest of Kandahar.
Many people are going to say Kandahar was Icy, but the only people we saw
having trouble were clearly Intermediate Skill Levels on truly Expert Terrain.
There were some Icy bits right in the Scraped Off Centre, but our Sharp SL9’s
ate that for Lunch, so no problem. On top of that, there was about a 3 metre wide
band of Soft Shoulder on the Right Side where Boards had moved a lot of the loose
surface to that extreme, so for a Skier capable of very Short Radius Parallel Turns,
it was sort-of-like a thin, straight line Powder Line??? Too Easy....
The Bottom Plateau’s to Run-Out were some of the best Skiing at Tremblant today.
Mega-Traction, Extreme Carving... Turn your Quads into Jello... Better than
any Gym on the Planet!

41(*) Open Trails on the South and North Sectors at #Tremblant... Plus...
Progressive, or Gradual Opening of the Edge Sector with “Action”.
Today is...
The First Official Day Of “Winter”!
Pick a trail, Pick any trail, then you can do this all day to your Hearts Content.
It might be in the long shadows of the sheltered North(**), like this
sample from late-day yesterday on Gagnon, headed towards the
Lowell Thomas Triple Base...
((**) today is the shortest day of the Year. The Sun is the lowest it gets
in the Sky today because of the Earth’s tilt on it’s Axsis. After today, the
days get longer all the way to longest day on June 21st.)
... or maybe on the Brilliant Sunny Slopes of the South Side, like
this Johannsen sample...
But the fun is going to add up to the same thing no matter where you
go at Tremblant today, because the Open Groomed Terrain is in the
best condition it can possibly be for any Performance Level you can do.
Speaking of “Best Condition"... Yesterday’s Opening of Nansen Bas, Lower
was marked by an extraordinary level of surface quality that we’re not
sure we’ve seen before on Day 1 of a Trail using Blown Snow as the main
component. Usually, there is at least one or two “Break-in” days where
courser sized particles and chunks get broken down into fine by Ski/Board
Traffic and overnight Grooming cycles. The reality yesterday was that by the
time we got there towards the end of the day, Nansen Bas was in the kind
of shape you might expect in Mid-January.
Bravo! Very Fine Work on Nansen Bas, Mountain Crews!
Terrain Development News:
Snowmaking on Expo!
Back on Dec. 11th, we reported/photo’d the Hose Connections on Expo, but they
lay dormant from that point. At Last Run on the Expo Quad yesterday we observed
this:
This morning, the Snowmaking Icon is attached to Expo on the Official Trail
Data you can review below.
There will be many, many happy Expo Fans who are always waiting anxiously
for this Marquee Versant Nord Feature Trail to Open and we might be inclined
to say that its Opening could well be one of your Christmas Presents!
The Sissy Schuss/Fuddle Duddle Zone is still the subject of refinement and while
we thought there was a chance we might see it this weekend, evidently it is
not finished yet. Considering the Level of this Seasons Opening Day Quality,
we’re not concerned at all as there’s every good reason to expect that when
it does Open, it will be close to flawless.
Snowmaking on Soleil!
There are Snowmaking Icons on a Soleil Primary Descent path using
Franc Sud, Toboggan and Tapecul. This is another Tremblant Marquee
Trail of brilliant design. It’s one of our personal Fav’s, but we think it’s also
a key indicator of the anticipation of stable Winter Conditions, sufficient
enough to justify this big investment in Labour and Resources to bring
the sector on-line.
Edge Sector On Progressive Opening This Morning.
Tremblant.ca reports that the Edge is scheduled to Open with Trail #88 “Action”,
at around 10:00 A.M. this morning. Here is what it looked like at Last Run, pic’d
off the peak of the Expo Quad.
Tremblant Mountain Guest Utility Advisory:
Just Arrived at Tremblant...
New To The Area...
New Trail Openings...
Progressive Openings...
Race Designations...
Snowmaking...
Terrain Development....
Lift Operations....
etc., etc., etc.
This is a highly “Dynamic” part of the Season with change not only
by the day, but often by the hour.
For that reason we Recommend and Promote Consultation With the
Knowledgable Members of the Tremblant Info. Crews.
From Those who are Brand New to the Area, to those who Ski/Board here
every day... the Info. Crews are the best source of up-to-the-minute information
because of their Radio Links to Tremblant’s Internal Communication System.
This is going to especially important over the up-coming Holiday Time Period
when there is so much happening on the Mountain.
We consult with them almost every day on the changes that naturally occur in
such a large Geographical Domain and we know for a fact that everyone
attending can directly benefit from the very same Info. So, when things are
changing quickly, or you just want to verify existing scenario’s... go to the best
source on the Mountain... Tremblant Info. Crews.
Weather Notes:
Just as Sunny as the last couple of days, but with a cooler by 2 degreesC
temp @ -8C. Light Southerly winds crossing the Summit from Soleil
towards P’tit Bonheur. Quiet Trail-Side Breaks will yield Solar Warming Energy.
We appreciate the cool right now as it is helping Mountain Crews in
the Snowmaking, and every advantage there is an important one.

hesitations aside and hit the road as soon as you can...
