This is quite possibly...
The Very Best Radical Recovery Turn We’ve Ever Captured.
1.22.18.Resort.Base.Johannsen.Best.Radical.Recovery.Turn.We.Ever.Saw.d.jpg
This Is A Genuine, Under Control, Snowboard Turn...
We actually spoke to the person who made the turn you see above
and what he was doing was avoiding an icy patch that he saw coming
into his path. The end result was that ultimately he came to a stop, but
non-the-less, this intentionally executed “Stand On It Sideways” turn was
by all appearance as you see above, completely under control for the entire radius.
Otherwise, it was once again... a thoroughly Grey Day, but all Winter
with just enough wind to remind you that even with a temp that’s
warm compared to recent weeks... a strong wind can make any
Sub-Zero C temp feel cool.
Just In Case... We have no idea if the “Selfie” Folks above will ever see
this, but the possibility exists, so if they do, not only will they have their
original Selfie, but they’ll have the “Big Picture” context as well.
Below:
In keeping with the “Beginner" Theme we have going in the Original Post
below, here is the other Tremblant Marquee Beginner Trail, Versant Nord,
The North Side, Summit Level, P’tit Bonheur. This is our “Goto” reference
Trail of close to 100% reliability. It is perhaps the only Trail at Tremblant
that is not only Open on the first day of the season, but it Opens in
virtually flawless condition that continues on an uninterrupted basis
for 99.9%, until the Last Run of Closing Day in Mid-April.

We found some of the best Skiing was on the Trail Sides. Trail centres
were fine for the most part, but traversing traffic could reveal the odd
icy bit showing through, so the most reliable performance was found
on the outboard sides where there were consistent, soft, easy, all
snow descent lines. We still say that your Best Friends are recently
tuned edges, and that has been particularly true over recent times.
(If you’re arriving at Tremblant on any given afternoon, be sure to
drop your Skis or Board off at the “Ski Shop”, right next to the Cabriolet
Lower Base for their Crazy Good, overnight discount rate, tuneup.)
At the end of the day, it was just beginning to snow over the Summit
and as we circled around the end of Lac Tremblant heading for the
Old Village, you could see the snow-cloud rolling over the Summit.
As this is being written, there is so-far, around 10cm’s of new
snow accumulated adjacent to the Resort Base.
There is risk of freezing rain with this weather event, but that
is a Sud, South, Base Level forecast element that we think could
possibly be Snowfall over the cooler temps of Mountain elevations.

From An International World Cup Event...
To The Hundreds Of Race Kidz In Training...
Any Tremblant guest here in the last week is certainly
going to think there’s a tremendous emphasis on Race
and Competition around here...
On that point we absolutely agree, there is a HUGE emphasis
on Racer/Competition Development at Tremblant and we think
very rightly so, because...
For The Average Recreational Skier...
The transferable elements of Race Technique that win Gold Medals,
including, but not limited to “Balance”, “Angulation”, “Posture”, or “Stance"
gets YOU, the ability to...
Carve Like A Pro On Nansen.
Considering that “Experts” can always take care of themselves,
we want to address Beginners, where encouragement can
make a critical difference, so...
Applicable To Beginners, and all those who bring their Beginner
Friends to the Mountain:
Skiing is not a Sport where “Passive” gets you Best Results.
The obvious difference between Passive Skiers who coast along
as compared to Skiers Actively engaged in Technique Development
can instantly be recognized on any Trail-Side break where those
two groups can easily be identified by thoughtful observation.
We Respectfully Submit... that it is actually Beginners who have
the most to benefit from by incorporating some of the basic
elements of Competition Training into their personal growth
of Skills.
Only One Of Many Examples:
One of those elements is “Repetition”. It is not uncommon to see
Racer Kidz training with descent after descent on the same course
over and over again in order to improve technique relative to the
standard of the basic pathway which remains the same for that
training session.
Beginners on Nansen repeating run after run of practice are going
to get exactly the same accelerated improvement benefits.
This Is A Primary Benefit Of Learning How To Ski At Tremblant.
Nansen Is 6 Kilometres Long. The “Training” rhythm a Beginner
can establish on a gentle trail that is 6 Kilometre’s long is a Vital
Component of a Rapid Advancement Curve because you are not
stopping or interrupting the “Practice” every 4 minutes to get
back on a Lift. One you get the “Flow” established for any element
of Personal Skills Development, the next most important thing
in our opinion is to re-enforce that learning with “Repetition”
until it becomes automatic, or “Reflexive”. You can not do that
anywhere more effectively than on 6 kilometres of close to perfect
descent conditions.
What We See... is that Mixed Skill Set Groups “Drag” their Beginner
Friends all over the Mountain, frequently onto Terrain that is way
above the actual Skill Levels of some within the group. What this
does is inhibit the growth of the Beginners because if forces them
into a form of “Survival” behaviours that are contradictory to
effective learning. The Moral Of The Story Is: Beginners and their
friends should have the understanding and patience to dedicate
extended Practice Time to include up to whole days if necessary,
on Trails like Nansen for optimized quick learning.
Bottom Line on all this...
“Repetition” is an Undervalued component of Rapid Learning
and Skills Development when focused Practice in an appropriately
long and familiar environment can generate far quicker advancement.
