Another Beautiful Tremblant Day... With Many Shades Of “Spring”!

We say “Shades” of Spring because there was actually
less “Spring” in the day than we expected. The Skiing
reflected that as well. Despite the Sunny ambiance,
there was more firmness in the Groomed Trail surfaces
than anything close to +6C would typically soften up to,
even at Base Levels, but we think that’s a very good thing
for keeping the snow in place. The Cool Breezes also felt like
a lower temp than the Summit Traffic Board indicated.

How Warm Did It Get At The Summit Of Tremblant Today???

Above: This is the highest temp we saw today, and
at various times this +2C did just not seem precise
due to the presence of noticeably cool breezes that
eventually brought Snowfall. We suspect that the
ambient Summit temp was being affected by the mix of
“Winds Aloft”, i.e., cooler air swirling down from upper
atmospheric levels that by the last hour, were visibly
carrying Snow Squalls across the the area.

Above: You’ll see just a few white streaks of Snow across this image in
the foreground, and in the distance, more obvious concentrations
moving quickly across the horizon. Considering the Forecast was calling
for rain, we think this was a great outcome.

In the Mean-time... the Skiing definitely had shades of “Spring”,
and when those shades blended with the remainder of yesterday’s
very fine trail refinements and the overnight grooming for today,
it was a great combination for some really fast fun. The “Caveat”
in the “fast fun” part was exactly as we thought when we wrote in
the Conditions Notes of the original post below, "use your head and
be appropriately cautious on initial explorations”. For Experts who
wanted to race around, you needed to make initial explorations
cautiously to identify the zones of both firmness and softness
that were not necessarily predictable, especially over Crests
and down Steeper Pitches. That’s where the “Shades of Spring”
came into play, if it had been all Spring-like, those intermixed “Firm”
zones would not have been any concern, but with them, emergency
or hazard avoidance was more difficult with any serious speed
due to momentary loss of grip.

The one Shade of Spring that did become more evident as the
day progressed were several pitches and narrowed Trail entrances
or intersections that built moguls. For the most part, they were
soft and easy to pop over or blast straight through, but even those
areas needed common sense care as there were some icy bits that
lurked in the valleys between.

Once you knew what the patterns were, there were loads of
very sweet descent lines that had beautifully even traction
from Top-To-Bottom and it was easy to repeat the best of those
if you could match your need for speed with the durable muscle
to take advantage of it all.

For Tomorrow...

There are Rain Icons in the Forecast, however...
there were Rain Icons in today’s Forecast, and as far
as we know, it all came as snow, light, but still snow.
Tomorrows daytime temps are supposed to be lower
than todays +6C, at only up to +3C, so we think there
may be just as much, or at least some chance of it
being Snow again, especially at cooler Mountain Elevations.
There will be Great Skiing within the Open Terrain that
will be revealed with responsible explorations.

We could be wrong about the Weather, but not about the Skiing...

82(*) Open Trails on the Beautifully Prepared Slopes at #Tremblant .

Without A Shadow Of Doubt...

It Really Is An Excellent Day To Jump Ito Action At Tremblant!

And The Biggest Reason Is...

The Sun Shone Brightly Over Tremblant At
The End Of A Very Memorable Day That Sets The Stage For Today.

And It’s very Possible, Even Likely, Today Could Be Better!

Yesterday’s Performance was practically speaking, all “Winter”.

The crispness in the surfaces, the slight touch of coolness in the air,
the firmness in the base below the fine, granular, snow of the top layers,
the speed that was inherent in very low friction descent lines... it all
just felt like “Winter”, but really really easy.

The Grooming Is Near Flawless.

No doubt about it... Mountain Crews Dedicated Round-The-Clock Efforts
paid off in huge amounts as most of the very stubborn icy bits seemed
to somehow magically go away.

It’s No Secret...

We Love The Entire Lowell Thomas, Upper Middle Mountain
on Versant Nord, the North Side, because it represents
Benchmarks of Seasonal Attainment and Base Stability
in the primarily Natural Snowfall Accumulations of the smaller
inside trails like our #66, “Le Tunnel” sample above and below.

Basically, Anywhere You Go, You Can Shred Like A Pro!

The Dramatic Increase In The Scope Of Performance
And Coverage Yesterday Was Evident On The Expressions
Of Tremblant Guests All Over The Mountain.

The obvious intensity of the Moment in the expression of
the Skier above on the ever-so-fine carving surface of Devils River
was a typical Expert reaction to the remarkable traction and speed
that could be found across almost all the Open Groomed Terrain.

We Expect Similar Very Positive Reactions Today...
Along with potential “Super-Spring” For A Day, Conditions!

The Likelihood is that we will see a shift during the day
that takes us from yesterday’s mostly “Winter”, to a far
more noticeable level of “Spring”. With a forecast that
includes a huge dose of Sunshine and Temp’s getting
up to +5C by Noon, and +6C by 2:00p.m., it’s almost
inevitable there’s going to be the feel of Spring in surfaces.

Weather Notes:

Do not be alarmed or even concerned by the small rainy icons
in the above hourly forecast. At Mountain Elevations with the Cooler
Evening temps and the Sun gone down, if they occur there is a good
chance it could be Snow on the slopes, but even if not, it’s a very short
possibility, so we see it being of little consequence so-far.

Conditions Notes:

Any Days With Temps Crossing Zero can have Icy bits.
We don’t expect much, but use your head and be appropriately
cautious on initial explorations.

The Joys Of Days Like Today Are Possible Because Of
The Fundamental Existence Of A Well Established Base
That Is Supported By Both A Deep, Durable, Thaw-Resistant
Frost, And Meticulous Daily Maintenance.

Absolutely Worth Every Ounce Of Effort To Go If You Can.

Looking forward to adding more at Apres Ski...
