T360 Midnight Apres Ski Edit @ 11:59 P.M.

The Weather Forecast Was Wrong??? Again????

This Is Not “Sunny”...

and you can’t see the top half for Snow-Cloud...

To be fair, there was “Sun” for very brief moments, but it
was only in small, very quickly passing zones, and it was
gone almost as quickly as it appeared.

The overwhelming majority of the day was Snowing Overcast.
We were very happy about all of that. You could not come much
closer to Zero C, and still get, and keep, natural snowfall the way
we enjoyed it today. You will notice that the Overcast has rendered
photography rather “Dark” looking for today, as it has for about the
last 6 days that have all generated variable amounts of snow.

Everything Was Easier.

The overnight snowfall combined with grooming, produced
a noticeable refinement in traction and smoothness that was
generally evident on all Open trails.

The snow that came between Thursday and Friday has been largely
a very fine(as in small) sized particle that is remarkably dry and
almost looks like sand grains. It Skis with a satin-like feel underfoot,
and carving edge angulation of very steep inclination could be easily
be used to whip off very fast turn sequences.

This easy performance was equally evident on both Versant Sud, South,
and Versant Nord, North, sides of Tremblant.

The Pic. Below is “Green" Nansen Haut, Upper and the Snow Surface
Sample above is looking underfoot at the very same spot. This very same
super easy snow was also the top layer on the “Black” Taschereau pic.
which is the second pic. above, so we can legitimately say that the new
snow has raised performance over all Skill Level terrain.

The other thing that was a significant benefit today can be
seen in the flat calm Lac Tremblant pic. above, top-of-page...
little to no wind. The absence of wind as a “User Friendly”
characteristic can not be overstated, and we can tell you it
made for a wonderful, etherial, intimate feel to the day as
you were surrounded by stillness in the beautifully snow covered
world of Tremblant today.

For Tomorrow... The Third Day Forecast To Be “Sunny”???
Based on the fact that neither of the first 2 forecasts
came true, we’d have to say there’s a questionable
“Overcast” on the predictions for tomorrow.

The Skiing should be excellent though, and Tremblant.ca
has indicated over 25 Open Trails. The likelihood is those
5 or 6 new trails will could be Rope Tow, Lowell Thomas,
Rigodon, La Traverse, et al, basically, the terrain directly
serviced by the brand new Lowell Thomas High Speed
Detachable Quad Chairlift.

Overnight grooming makes today a bit easier than yesterday
as you might expect with the refinements that become possible
with the recent snowfall.

Conditions at Tremblant make you look good!

Conditions at Tremblant make you look good!

The 2 shots above were both taken yesterday at the
same location(Versant Nord, North, Beauchemin Bas),
and within about 90 seconds of each other.

What they illustrate is the Versatility in Tremblant conditions
that can make all Skill Levels look good.

What makes this primarily natural snow good across
the range of all Skill Levels is:

A) Low friction

and

B) High grip.

Regarding “A” - Closeness to Zero C can often generate
higher amounts of friction which Skiers/Boarders can feel
as “Drag” or resistance, but for this entire run of recent days
all we have had at Tremblant is “Fast”.

Regarding “B” - No matter what the friction rate is, Temps
close to Zero C typically have high levels of edge-set “Grip”,
the ability of Skis/Board edges to be able to dig into the snow
for confident turning traction, and Tremblant has certainly had
almost universally high Grip levels across the entire array of
Open terrain.

The Big Easy Magic... comes when the combination of these
2 factors, speed and traction, work together. This is the combination
that makes YOU look good when your Skill Level is matched to your
terrain choices because it’s literally super easy to make all your
control inputs of steering and braking.

But Wait, There’s More...

The other “Magic” factor at Tremblant is “Smooth”
Notwithstanding “Speed” and “Traction”, Smoothness
is what connects the dots along every descent path.
On that account, we don’t think there are any better
groomed trail bases than those delivered here every
single day by Tremblant Mountain Op’s.

Weather Notes:

It’s another one of those days that forecasts “Sunny”,
but almost exactly the same as yesterday, it’s not “Sunny”
in early A.M., and it does not look like “Sunny” is going
to happen. At anywhere close to Zero C, we’re actually
happy with Overcast because solar energy is not what
we want over trail surfaces.

As far as the long range looks, excellent for continuing the
very rapid pace of Opening Terrain development already underway.

A Few Words About Safety.

You do not want this effort to be for you...

The Quebec Ski Areas have adopted a
standardized list of rules/code for
safe Mountain user conduct. Violations
can result in the loss of Lift pass,
not to mention the injury that can
happen.

Here is the code in French and English.

Regarding #1, #2: If you are going fast and someone unexpectedly
turns into your path, the crash is your fault.
What we See... “Bombers” that think they have the right to
race down the Mountain and actually think everyone should
stay out of their way. “They turned right in front of me” is a
commonly heard complaint at accident scenes, but that is
exactly what tells you the “Bomber” was not in control,
and/or has no idea what the code means for respecting
safe speeds in mixed traffic.

Conditions Notes:

We've highlighted todays inherent qualities of Speed, Grip,
and Smoothness, but we want to emphasize one other
factor which is the reliable extent of those qualities
from side-to-side and top-to-bottom of virtually all
the Open terrain. It is not uncommon in the first weeks
of any new season to find rough edges, somewhat raw
sections or entire trails, as the early base thickness may
not be deep enough. Not so far(**) at Tremblant. For any children
of the 20th Century, i.e., at Tremblant from 1939 --> 1999,
you will be blown away by the almost unbelievable quality
of Opening conditions that are arguably as good now, if not
better in some cases, than we may have seen in any normal
Mid-Winter in the 20th Century.

No More “Rock Skis”?(**)

It used to be that you saved an old pair of Skis just for Opening
conditions because you knew there could be natural hazards
of rocks and stumps over some very uneven surfaces that would
inevitably cause base damage. So, you kept your “Good” or “New”
Skis safely stored away until there was a few feet of snow to bury
all those hazards before using them.

That is simply not necessary now if you stay within the Official
Open Trail list, where there is such obvious reliability in the
glitch-free quality of the groomed Alpine trails.

To be sure... it is still early, we have not had 3 months of winter
yet and we don’t have the thick cushion that months of snowfall
generates by mid-winter, but... what Tremblant Mountain Crews
“Open”, they open at quality levels that would definitely be “Mid-Winter”
by any historic comparisons.

It is a privilege to have such fine conditions
so early in the season.

Get your Ski/Board season fired up with a head-start
in training and conditioning on Groomed Open Trail
Quality that would be “Mid-Winter” by historic comparisons.

(**)That could change when Mountain Crews begin to open
Hors Piste, Sous Bois, Un-groomed terrain, especially that
which is not supported by snowmaking.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
