77(*) Open Trails On All 4 Open Sectors, Sud, South, Nord, North Soleil, and Edge, at #Tremblant .

An Early Date Record For All 4 Open Sectors At Tremblant?

Despite Yesterday’s Surrounding Low Level At, Or A Degree Above Zero C,

Mountain Elevations At Tremblant Hold All Winter, All Day.

The Skiing/Boarding was all “Winter”, even if a bit “Thick” in places
due to both abundant natural snowfall from the night before and the
relatively warm, high internal humidity characteristics of that new snow.

(Please Note: Due to very flat ambient light, Pic’s have greatly altered
contrast, highlights and colour balance in order to show greater
Snow Surface detail as a utility priority.)

In the picture above, taken while standing on the right descending
side of Versant Sud, South Side McCulloch(Trail # 18), you can clearly
see the powder accumulation that ran the entire right side of McCulloch,
adjacent to the TGV Quad. This snow was not so thick as to inhibit Expert
navigation, but it was definitely not easy for Intermediates who where
struggling with control in the irregularity of loose snow depths that were
variable from one metre to the next.

That single point sort-of sums up Tremblant on the day after a recorded
9cm’s of new snow, and it also sums up our point about matching actual
Skill Levels to the terrain rating selected.

If you stick with terrain rated equally to your skills, Tremblant has been,
and will also be today, in fantastic condition for all guests, of all skill levels,
for this date. Period.

Loads Of Great, Newly Opened Terrain!

This is just one example, Soleil Sector “Toboggan”, Trail #41,
and it’s in very fine Opening condition. Just look at the trail-side
snow in the bush and you can see this sector has more than just
snowmaking to open with, and that is reflected in the quality of
the entire descent path.

We hope to be able to get over to the “Edge” sector later today,
but initial feedback from others is there is a “Ton” of natural snow
over there.

Weather Notes:

For Today... Our Very Favourite Thing...

Low Wind Speed... This is a very fine forecast and extremely
user friendly, so looking forward to a super easy, super fun day!

Conditions Notes:

A “Day 2” of increased Groomed Trail refinements in compacted density
and overall wall-to-wall smoothness from Summit to Base, after a significant
single snowfall event 48 hours ago. Nice!

Today should see a higher level of “Forgiveness” in all Skill rated
Groomed terrain due to the overall improvement in the consistency
of loose top layer depth and the reduction of irregular thickness
that was present in the new snowfall yesterday.

It is still critically important to choose rated terrain that is matched
to your actual skill level for initial explorations, until you have evaluated
the performance of todays surfaces on a case by case basis for
individual trails.

The way Mother Nature delivered the new snow means that there
may be some spots that did not receive as much as others due to
the wind direction, or because of steepness. Starting with “Easy”,
and working up, you should look for patterns and proactively seek
out terrain suited for your style and ability.

There may be some zones of exposed very firm base from traffic
concentrations, particularly in the traversed centres of steeper trails
that can be slick or have icy bits. Speed control going into those
zones is best managed by coming to a complete stop, then if possible,
observing traffic to see how others are doing, before you go blasting
over the edge. Virtually all of the “Incidents” we’ve seen in the last
couple of days have been from those entering steeper terrain with
too much speed that is not easily controllable with additional
gravitational acceleration.

In the Sous Bois, Glade, Hors Piste, and Un-Groomed,
as good as it is, we still do not have 300+cms of Feb., yet...
so it’s a la carte, on an individual basis. There are both
early season excellence, and natural hazards. Use your head
and explore responsibly.

We continue to say that if you match your actual Skill Level
with all Ski Patrol Posted signage, you will have an excellent day.

Conditions are wonderful and worthy of every ounce
of effort you can make to be out for them.

As early season physical conditioning, Tremblant is far better
than any Gym on Earth, and it is super-easy to get 20,000
vertical feet of Skiing per day.

As far as early season terrain quality, it is exceptional. Any glitches
in the Groomed are primarily due to “Too Much Snow” at once,
but that’s a great problem to work around. Trails that have
Multi-cycle grooming and daily traffic use are typically excellent,
and newly opening trails may take a day or 2 of “Break-in” use
to optimize surface particle size, but that is totally normal.

Give yourself an early Christmas Present and Ski Tremblant ASAP!

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

GoTo: Archive, Search Reports by Date: Index: http://tinyurl.com/yktelmu

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
