T360 Late Evening Apres Ski Edit under construct @ 10:53 P.M.

Overall, another day of “Fantastic” compared to any
historic December 17.

In the Expert Terrain, another day of what we call “Technical
Skiing” due to loose top layers over a very firm base. The
“Technical” part comes from the necessity to use smoothly
applied edging due to some wind and traffic exposed very firm
base that had slick or icy bits. Those difficult bits were very small
compared to the total Expert trail area, but if you were
overconfident and hit one while in the middle of a fast turn,
you had an instant “Wow” or “OMG” moment.

We need to firmly assert that 80% of the Expert terrain we skied
was no problem, so being cautious was a proactive “What If”
just to avoid unexpected traction loss.

If we had to pick one side as better than the other,
we would have to give a slight edge to Versant Nord,
the North side, just because the north did not face
directly into the wind. What was actually happening
on the north was the wind was blowing over the Summit
coming up over Beauvallon and that was generating a
“Backfill” effect over most of the Lowell Thomas Sector.

The Green and Blue terrain were all much more consistent
because they just don’t have the pitch, so snowfall “Sticks”
much better and there is far less scraping over any of the
more gentle descents.

About 97% of the Green Terrain is Near-Flawless.

The snow falling on Tremblant was coming in highly transient
bands of activity for most of the day, and ended up falling very
heavily over the whole Mountain by Last Run, so we expect that
with the grooming night-shift, tomorrow should be just as fine as
today, maybe even a notch up. A lot depends on the wind effects,
so with similar predicted for tomorrow, we’re hoping the grooming
in of any of the new snow may make the difference for that potential
step up in surface uniformity.

More on all this in the morning, and maybe the forecast “Sunny” part
might actually come true???

The summary is that today, and this week
are going to be some of the very best
Pre-Christmas conditions ever recorded.

As we elaborate on in our 9/9/18 Blog, and
“Tremblant Geographic” Fall 2018 topics within
these Forums, Tremblant is experiencing
a series of very Snowy seasons, this one
included. When you have multiple, sequential
seasons with 20% over the 20 year average,
statistically, you have a “Trend”.

The foundation for this seasons quality is that basically,
Tremblant got 25% of the 20 Year Average Natural Snowfall
in the first 2 weeks of the season.

Of course...
Mother Nature could change all that without any
notice at all, but that’s just another reason you
should make the most of it now, if you can.

What you see above is Official Trail Number 1, “Bon Vivant”,
running from the peak of the Versant Nord, North Side “Edge”
Sector, over, and around to, Nansen Haut, Upper, on Versant
Sud, South Side. It is obviously not a fancy action shot, but...
the amount of Natural Snow here is remarkable for what is
technically still, late “Fall”, and it is arguably the very most
important single reason for making every ounce of effort
you can to participate now.

Below: Another Edge Sector Peak POV, this one overlooking
the Versant Nord, North side, Summit portion of Beauchemin Haut,
Upper. Beauchemin itself has had superb conditions since the moment
it opened on November 22, and not only has it been remarkably
consistent since then, but so has all the surrounding terrain
including most noteably, P’tit Bonheur, Andy Moe, Axle and the
entire Lowell Thomas Sector.

Weather Notes:

With Snow in the air, vision may be an issue, but otherwise
another super-easy early season day, at least temp-wise.

Below: Sample B: This shot is actually about 40 hours old, taken on
one of the World’s very best learning/practice/cruising trails,
Versant Nord, North Side, “P’tit Bonheur”, trail # 72, However...

It would not matter if it was from 25 seconds ago, or 25 days ago
because the reliability of conditions on this trail are, and have been,
almost flawless from the second the season started. The very easy
looking edge hold and performance illustrated here has been in place
since Nov.22. There are dozens of other examples of similar conditions
in todays Open Trail List, so all you need to do is put yourself into this
picture, then go and find them!

One of the most significant assets with the current Tremblant experience
has been the consistency. Is it perfect? No, but considering the concepts
of “Relative”, as applied to historic averages, or working with the weather
and Mother Nature, every single day has had excellence relative to all
of those things. Sure, there have been a few “Warm” cycles, as well as a
few “Cool” cycles, there are still a very few odd icy and or slick bits, but
day after day, Tremblant Mountain Op’s have delivered great and very
consistent levels of performance across the entire array of Open terrain.
The way above average snow accumulations to date have just allowed
all that work to really shine so quickly compared to the average seasonal
starts of years and decades past.

Above: Telemark or other, it does not matter what style or technique you favour,
when you focus on the Snow, that’s what makes your fun, easy for your way.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

GoTo: Archive, Search Reports by Date: Index: http://tinyurl.com/yktelmu

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
