Flashback, Theme du Jour...

Glimpses Of The Past, About 73 Years Ago...

Above And Below:

We have running “Tremblant” searches that generate an almost
constant stream of historic memorabilia. So, when this one(that
we’ve seen a few dozen times before), popped up again overnight,
we were prompted to recall our most recent overview of nearly the
very same view, albeit from the now passing overhead Soleil Sector
Quad. We’re guessing this one below is within 10 metres of the one
above, not to mention the 73 years from Circa 1947 to now.

Simply amazing to think that the essence of Tremblant in many
regards is still virtually the same... Excellent Technical Alpine
Skiing over absolutely breathtakingly beautiful Pre-Cambrian
Laurentian Mountain scenery.

Season after Season, Year after Year, Decade after Decade,
this is why you choose Tremblant...

Reliable, Genuine, Authentic Winter.

Almost equally amazing was the fact that we were riding up
the Soleil Quad in the pic. above with members of a family
visiting, as they do annually, from Washington D.C., who
originally immigrated from Moscow, Russia, 25 years ago.
They usually do 2 or 3 Ski Holiday visits to other alternating
Eastern Ski Areas, but they return to Tremblant every season
because(paraphrased) “We love the fact that we can count
on it being “Winter” here.”

Regardless of where you go to Ski in the Northern Hemisphere,
everyone has sooner or later run into a “January Thaw” and
today might just be a tiny glimpse of that as well. In the big
picture, it is insignificant, but for a few hours today, there may
be softness from wind-induced thermal force of a degree or two,
or three, as a mild air mass passes through the region.

Weather Notes:

We are not really concerned with the brief, one hour potential rainy
icon’d forecast because that usually symbolizes passing zones
of active precip. that could either bypass the Mountain altogether,
or at these temp’s, even be snow over the Mountain if coolness
prevails in air masses above.

Despite these optimistic hopes that cooler Mountain Elevations
could hold Zero C, or below by any fraction of a degree, the
possibility exists that with this forecast wind speed, warm
air may be driven up and over to the point that everything
gets a brief warm exposure.

The emphasis and operative word in all above is “Brief”.
Ultimately it will be inconsequential but in the moment it
could make things soft, and as temps drop, make things
“Firm”. The point is that if you’re coming for the weekend,
bring fresh, sharp ski/board edges for the “Firm” part.
If you’re arriving Friday eve., drop your Skis/Board off
at the Ski Shop(P-1, Cabriolet Base Level, Chalet des
Voyageurs.), for their “Crazy Good” overnight Tune-Up
Special Deal.

For near-term Tremblant Visit Planners ... Take another close
look at the 14 day Long Range Forecast above. A very steady
and All-Winter forecast you should be allocating Ski-Days for.

----------- 6:45 P.M. Apres Ski Weather Conditions Insert Update: ----------------

At this stage it seems as though the “+ C” thermal exposure
has been about 18 hours or so, and at barely over the freezing
mark. While that would have certainly contributed to Snow Surface
Softness, and the Skiing today has had the consequent high performance
that is common in rising temp’s, we are glad to see that by very shortly
after Last Run, the temp’s on the Mountain are already going Sub-Zero C.
Another review of the long term outlook above, shows the temp trend on
the way down for the foreseeable future.

What this means for Ski/Board Conditions on Saturday, is that
the drop back to Sub-Zero C increases the probabilities of potential
icy bits as naturally occurring solidification. Of course, Grooming
accomplished by the Night-Shift between now and First Tracks
is going to be the single largest component of quality.

It would be pure speculation to anticipate any effects in the Un-Groomed,
however we do feel the Sous Bois, Glades, Hors Piste, etc., are the
zones where we might possibly see some reduction in Open area, if at all.
If so, we think it would be largely for safety if the terrain was froze
really too lumpy for the standards of the Ski Patrol. In that case,
the next snowfall could render that out quickly. Time will tell...

------------- End Of Insert Update ---------------

Conditions Notes:

“Wild Cards” ... Any time the temp’s float around Zero C/32 F.,
there is almost certain chance of highly variable conditions due
to the Laws of Physics as applicable to the properties of water
when exposed to either side of the freezing mark.

The over-riding positive co-factor for today however, is that
generally speaking, conditions always seem to get better as
temps rise. Softness working in simply means fantastic turning
grip can be realized almost everywhere. Additionally, the temps
are not forecast to go above +4C at Sud/South Base levels, so at
typically cooler Mountain elevations(maybe only a degree or two
above Zero C), we are very confident that all the speed should
be fully retained.

Page under Progressive Assembly.
A day of potential near-Zero C tipping points, but
in terms of Mother Natures basic permissions...
The Laws of physics don’t care how much
it’s below Zero C, just that it is below Zero C,
so we think that up at cooler Mountain elevations
we may squeak by with another day of really
easy Winter?

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

GoTo: Archive, Search Reports by Date: Index: http://tinyurl.com/yktelmu

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
