11/30/20 #Tremblant Conditions

12(*) Open Trails on Sud/South, Nord/North, Summit-To-Base, at #Tremblant.

Typical of virtually every Tremblant season opening in recent decades...

These Are Startup Season Conditions That Make You Look Good.

Fast, Easy, Smooth And Consistent.

There are portions of Open Terrain that are like mid-winter quality
and yesterday was a continuing example of that with Nansen Haut, upper.

It is quite close to flawless, again.

Nansen Haut/Upper.
If you are a Beginner working on those first days of skills building,
if you are an Intermediate working on refinements, if you are an
Expert wanting to relaxed cruise a run or two, there is no finer
choice at Tremblant right now. Nansen continues to have our
“Best Of” standards of all day smoothness and ease of use award.

Weather Notes:

We made an extensive annotated graphic/pic review of a comparison
between forecast and actual in yesterday’s Apres Ski where we highlighted
the difference between Summit forecast +2C and actual -1C at 3:00 P.M.

We suggested that if the actual continued to be slightly lower
than the forecast, the fact that those differences are right at
the Zero C mark could make a hugely critical difference in the
effects to the trail surfaces at Mountain elevations today, especially
considering the usual -4C cooler elevation differential.

Also, the fact that the forecast icons are “Light” during open hours
means it is possible the passing zones of precip., whatever they
may be, could completely miss or bypass the Mountain in the
ground level air currents. This is a frequent observation and we
attribute it to an 80/20 phenomenon, where weather conditions on
the Mountain are better than the forecast 80% of the time when
these circumstances are present. Of course, that also means we
could be wrong.

Conditions Notes:

So far, all three days of this seasons opening sequence have
been similar in scope and quality. With the temps floating around
Zero C(totally typical when there are still officially 3 weeks left
in the “Fall” season), the surfaces have been understandably soft
from a general perspective. The good part we like has been the
inherent level of smooth and easy speed that is not always there
with “Spring-Like” snow that can often exhibit drag. This easy speed
suggests to us that there is just enough frost in the base to act as
barrier keeping the softness from getting too deep.

That could all change today, maybe not, but looking ahead to tomorrow,
there are higher chances of that happening as Mother Nature appears
to be setting up for a warm one.

Also specific to today is that it is a workday weekday, so the Opening
Weekend crowd is all gone home to “Theirville”, and that leaves the
very, very lucky chosen few to have all the slopes to themselves.

What you need to remember is that for the end of November,
having gone through a Mother Nature sort-of warm spell, this
is an extraordinary amount of open terrain with the very rare
privilege of Summit-To-Base on both Sud/South and Nord/North
sides that has only happened 5 times in Resort history from 1939.
The consistency in the wall-to-wall quality is the “Icing on the cake”.

For future researchers looking at making Opening Day a planning
objective, we want to note that ANY amount of open terrain is
appreciated by passionate Skiers/Boarders after a 7 month off-season.
When there is an increasing frequency of Summit-To-Base at Tremblant
on either side or both, we’re overjoyed and ecstatically enthusiastic for
very good reason.

To be sure, the impact on logistics with a Covid-19 Global Pandemic
has added a previously unimaginable complexity to getting here, and
getting on the lift, but... that has become temporarily normal for every
form of human endeavour. Going to the grocery store has become a
world-wide chore, so we can rationalize extra effort for virtually every
single thing we want to do outside the home. The difference with making
the effort to Ski is the feeling of liberated freedom out on the trails where
for the most part, you are all alone with your Skis and the snow, all of
which is more keenly appreciated and absolutely worth every effort.

New, Expanding Terrain Development News.

Versant Nord, The North Side.

Snowmaking equipment can be seen from Duncan Quad
rising over the Duncan Trail from Base all the way up to Summit.

The date that would typically be the 24Hr. Children’s Charity Marathon
is quickly approaching and so it feels normal to see Mountain Crews
expanding the Nord/North terrain, usually as a compensation for the
public who are out for a day on the slopes when the the Sud/South
Beauvallon descent path is off-line as the fundraiser race course.
Not so this season with the 24Hr Event being virtual. This terrain
expansion is evidently part of the strategic long-term plan for this
season.

Typically, Crews have developed first within the Lowell Thomas sector,
but so far this appears to be the target zone for this week. It may be a
day or two, weather permitting, before things get cranked up to “Max”,
but the recent seasons have shown Crews can make huge progress in
a very short time, as little as two or three days. Theoretically, that would
mean it could be possible to have Duncan available “Very Soon"?
There are also guns hooked up along Vanier(Trail #60), from the
Expo Quad peak.

Thanks for your visit!

Virtually everything we do takes extra effort
in a Global Pandemic mode. But... of all the
pursuits you can think of, once you get
out on the slopes, none will be quite
as liberating as Skiing/Boarding are.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
