The Tremblant Word Of The Day:
Refinement.

Refinement is defined in the Google Dictionary as:
“The process of removing impurities or unwanted
elements from a substance.”
In the Google Thesaurus, the most appropriate
terms are: Purification, Cleansing, Improvement,
Fine Tuning, Touching Up, Finishing, Final Touches,
Finesse, Tweaking.
The reason we use that word so often is that all of its terms are
the keys to understanding the incremental increase in Groomed
Open Trail Quality as the days of a Tremblant winter pass.
Basically(a), we’ve had almost three months of, consistent, sustained,
sub-zero C round-the-clock, 24 hr days with very little(less than 14hours
in over 60 days???) thermal intrusion. Even though it’s not a record breaking
snowfall total, this reliable below Zero C/32F cold(which is Mother Natures
most basic “permission” for “Snow”), has allowed the Tremblant Mountain
Op’s Group, as Masters of Optimization, to produce outstanding results of
refinement that show equally well across the entire array on the Official
grooming list.
Statistically, Tremblant has 3 Months per year of sustained below
Zero C/32F weather, December, January and February. Statistically,
Vermont has 1, January. This is why we rejoice at latitudes of “North”.

This is why you choose Tremblant if you are reading this in some
future September, researching where to take the family for a Ski
Holiday. What you want is the cool. Regardless of snowfall totals
if it rains or gets warm every week, for consistent groomed trail
quality, the total snow is way less important than the sustained cold.
Basically(b) The sustained cold allows Mountain Crews here to focus on
continuous, escalating, refinements instead of periodic thermal/icy
recoveries in the grooming processes. So, in our opinion, what you
want is a Resort that actually gets and keeps a real, genuine, authentic
and durable “Winter”. In summary, sustained winter plus refinement, is
why we have the excellence you are going to experience today or at any
time you can be here during a glorious Tremblant snow white winter.

Above: When we get to this stage of seasonal accumulations,
even some of the more remote sectors of the Mountain get
grooming refinements. This sample above is Versant Nord/North
Side trail # 65, Banzai. It as well as the adjacent trails have no snowmaking
support so when they get groomed, as Banzai was recently, it generates
a solid, level, and compacted base that forms a stable, glitch-free platform
for future snowfall. In this case, the trail has been left to become mogul’d
for it’s Expert Fans and Black rating, but the groomed platform remains
intact as a base foundation which may be refreshed with periodic future grooming.
Weather Notes:
Cool, but manageable. Bundle-up for the “Breezes”, check
those details with fasteners, seals, and overlaps, head out
and enjoy superb all winter snow.
For centuries, anecdotal weather observations have lead
human beings to formulate generalizations about weather
trends and/or patterns. In the case of March, it is often
generalized that this month either “Comes In Like Lion
And Goes Out Like A Lamb”, i.e. a continuation of hard
winter to begin with, fading to a warm spring ending, or...
"Comes In Like A Lamb And Goes Out Like A Lion”, i.e.,
arrives with warm spring-like weather and leaves with
a winter re-boot.
In this case, it seems to be...
“In Like A Lion”
For the sake of the Skiing(#), we’ll take it!!!
(#)
It should be noted that while the snowfall total so-far this season
is now just a wee bit on the low side of normal ranges, the extended
number of days without a significant “January Thaw” or a “February Thaw”
is anecdotally way above average. This is not to say that there has been
no comparative warmth, because there has been, but it has all, except for
literally a few hours, been just under Zero C over Mountain elevations.
That is to say we are basically enjoying an unusually long string of
uninterrupted winter days. The bonus in the March forecast models
is that other than one indicated warm burp around March 10-12, which
may or may not actually happen, this string of winter days may potentially
continue on to end up somewhere close to double that of an average season.
That is a HUGE asset for all the quality past, present and future.
Conditions Notes:
As per all contained herein, Fabulous, Fun, Fast, All Winter, All Day!!!

If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.
When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.
There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.
(

First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
