Current Tremblant Proof Of Snow.
1.19.22.Nord.North.Lowell.Thomas.Sector.Trail.Side.Proof.Of.Snow.c.jpg
Please Note: Our “Proof Of Snow” pic’s do not necessarily
show the entire snowpack depth because the bindings and
ski brake assemblies, the ski pole baskets, get jammed up
with snow that stop them somewhere on the way down, so
the best way to think of them is “relative”, i.e., relative to
previous Proof's of Snow, and maybe more importantly,
relative to the depth of freely available Sous Bois/Hors Piste
snowpack that you would find at a given moment in time.
This new snow is fairly light on the basis of individual particles,
the horizontally dropped ski above obviously sank into the surface
a long way from our standard 30cm/1 foot drop height, but we can
tell you for a fact, that without skis on, this stuff is quite thick and
you immediately sink into it to the point that walking is impossible.
Out on the groomed trails, it had more inherent speed and glide
than previously, but we will still call it a relatively high friction
snow that does very well acting as a natural speed control on steeper
pitches. For Beginners on Nansen or P’tit Bonheur, there was an
almost ideal balance between gravity and resistance on their shallow
pitches, so basic control moves were easy to make without any fear
of runaway at all.
In this Versant Nord/North Side Beauchemin Bas/Lower trail surface
sample you can get a pretty good idea about how much new snow
had fallen over the groomed opening base. It was a bit thick, but
certainly not enough to catch you up or make navigation difficult
in any way, and underfoot it was nothing but smoothly easy to
initiate all forms of control moves.

This new snowfall will be an excellent component of this mornings
groomed trail array. It is super-dry and with the mechanical pressure
of heavy machinery passing over it, packing density should not be a
problem while still having a soft cushion feel in the top layers.

Today is the last day of the scheduled cable maintenance on the
Versant Nord/North Side Duncan Quad, so hopefully things are
going according to plan and it’s re-opening tomorrow may
coincide with some trail re-openings in the Duncan/Devils River
zone as well.(Please Note the Official Duncan Cable notice in
the Official Trail Status data.)
There may be one caveat on the Duncan reopening which is
that sometimes, not always, the Duncan Quad can be held
off-line in extremely cold temperatures for safety reasons.
Duncan is a very long chair lift and if there are any issues
that require evacuation it does take a while, so we would
recommend guests planning for tomorrow should go
to the Official Tremblant Resort website to check for
any/all updates.

Attention Tremblant Park Fans. The Adrenaline Park
is under construction. Not exactly sure when it may
open, but it most certainly is on the way!

Weather Notes:
Environment Canada Extreme Cold Weather Warning:
Conditions Notes:
Clinically, excellent within all freshly groomed
trails relative to rated Green, Blue and Black
challenge ratings. From a logistical point,
dressing for sustained warmth requires a
bit more attention, but the superb performance
you get will immediately convey why cool snow
delivers such an outstanding ski experience on
a truly crisp, clear winter day.
Due to the slightly elevated friction levels,
it is actually an excellent time for confident
learners to take on steeper challenges because
there has been a very favourable offset to gravity
that facilitates ease of control when things are a
little less slippery. As it is another passing day
in sequential grooming from the recent 30cm’s
snowfall, the speed and glide are definitely improving,
however the snowfall continues to be arriving on a
regular basis and with another fresh 13cm’s in the
last day again, there could be enough softness to make
for some developing moguls where traffic concentrates
around trail intersections, or near and below crests and
pitches. For the most part though, traffic is so light that
wear factors don’t really exist.
As you can tell from yesterdays pic’s, photography was
a snow-foggy challenge and our loss rate was over 80%
due to flat, low contrast, and snow-filtered conditions.
For those reasons we were going to toss this one below,
but even with the soft focus edges, we decided it does
convey the total focus on fun that is so easy over surfaces
with so much edge-set grip.
On steeper pitches, this snow makes you look good.

Any questions you have about the Sous Bois/Hors Piste
and Un-Groomed can be answered by reviewing the
“Proof Of Snow” and related text, above. We have 67cm’s,
over 2 feet, more snow today, than one year ago today,
so the summary is simply “Great”!
Please Note REVISED reference to Duncan Quad Cable Service herein:
Please Note: The Versant Nord/North Side Duncan Quad is out
of service for a scheduled maintenance. This cable was replaced
last summer and requires a tightening now that is routine after
its initial service period. Opening is now rescheduled for 1/20/22.

want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.
When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.
There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.
