2.11.22.Nord.North.Duncan.Bas.Lower.Big.Snow.Big.Bump.Fun.Conditions.Observations.c.jpg
In this sample above, Versant Nord/North Side Duncan, over time we
have been describing the Expert fun and utility of the big contour bumps
that Mountain Crews have integrated into to descending left side of the trail,
and here you get a good up-view across the profile they generate. What we
have said is that there is a ton of fun, plus a natural speed regulation, that
you can derive by coming into each of them from the right descending side
in a diagonal, then you end up cresting each of the bump peaks in an
effective traverse that can get you a negative gravity air-turn off each one.
What you can see above are two sets of carving tracks swooping to
screen-left that start below the closest crest from air-turn landings
we’ve made here on 2 previously successive runs on Duncan to try to
illustrate this approach.
In that way, it has been possible to get roughly 8 to 10 sequential
zero-gravity air-turns on the Duncan descending right side and it
as been an absolute joy of technical mastery to experiment with
the laws of physics to alter approach angles, speed, lift-off points
and landings for truly thrilling runs that will bring you back for many
repeats, just for the fun of it!
We would like to also point out that all this fun is NOT at reckless
speeds either. Coming in from the lower descending right side has
meant that the approach to traversing the bump crests for air is ever
so slightly uphill, so that’s where the natural speed regulation can
be utilized to maintain very safe velocity and indeed, with practice,
it’s almost like you’re doing your air-turns in slow motion that get
you super soft, gentle landings where you can easily edge-set for
the hook-up-and-go carving tack exits you can so clearly see above.
Regardless of Skill Level...
2.11.22.Ptit.Bonheur.Mid.Smooth.Snowy.Green.Speed.Fun.d.jpg
There was an amazing amount of skill level versatility
in the midst of all the newly falling snow, and except
for maybe “Never-Ever” Beginners, all ranges of skills
could be seen and heard having fun at any speed as
folks were literally “Whooping It Up” with loud shouts
of delight as they speed off into the snowy blur.
All we can say about photography is that there were obvious
challenges, however we can also say with absolute certainty,
that the fun level was inversely proportioned to the difficulties
in trying to keep the lens clear for more than a few seconds
because...
No matter your skills, the thrills of this wonderful, this smooth,
and this much beautiful new snow, was off the charts.
Weather Notes:
Environment Canada Flash Freeze Warning:
Conditions Notes:
Clinically speaking, 20cm’s of new snow in a single 24hr. period
is well above the level that can achieve ideal grooming compaction
in one night-shift, however... because most of it came during open
hours there is already some natural packing from Ski/Board traffic,
which was actually quite effective as there was a good crowd out
for the Friday of a three day long weekend. Additionally, due to the
very packable nature from the humidity in new snow being delivered
at so close to Zero C, the traffic-packing effect was substantial.
With those two concepts in mind, we think the grooming will have
been very effective in getting closer to ideal than might normally
happen.
No doubt, this much new snow all at once favours Expert skills,
but we were quite surprised at how easy it was to maneuver
over and through it. To a degree, it was almost like it was
self-packing under its own weight. Typically, that much new
snow might develop a lot of tracking or choppy conditions,
but that was never really evident and we think that was the
result of the surface density that could actually support a
fairly high rate of floatation as it was settling very quickly.
Of course we expect that as usual, all the main Green zones
like Nansen and P’tit Bonheur will have had the typical priority
focus they always get, so Beginners or those who want to have
some relaxed cruising will never be without these easy surfaces.
As far as the Sous Bois/Hors Piste and Un-Groomed, this is
where the concept of Expert Skill favour really comes into play
with major, major benefit. There have been 35cm’s/2 feet of new
snowfall in a week, most of it within the last 48 hours, so that
will be very noticeable to the weekend regional Expert regulars.

--------- Special Addendum To The Official Tremblant.ca Snow Report -----------
BONJOUR SKIERS AND SNOWBOARDERS
The last snow storm and power outage in the region gives us
challenges on the mountain this morning. Please note that our
operations are strongly influenced by the weather conditions
and the power outage. Several lifts are impacted by the last
snow storm. We invite you to visit this webpage every hour,
which will be updated in case of major changes. We strongly
recommend that you park on the South Side. Following the
recent government announcement in an effort to curb the
spread of Omicron, some changes have been made to our
operation plan in accordance with Public Health recommendations.
In addition to verifying proof of vaccination of guests aged 13 and
older using the lifts, please read information related to our mountain
operations for the 2021/22 season.
------------ End Of Notice -----------------------
Please Note Re Above Special Notice: Whatever it was in terms of early morning
effects must have been quite brief because by the time we got to our usual Versant
Nord/North Side parking, we had full Mountain operational utility without delay,
interruption or impediment. If we had not seen this notice afterwards, we would
have not known there were any glitches.

want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.
When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.
There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.
(

First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
