Only Mother Nature can take 4.5 Billion years(^) to shape a granite
descent to flow like a gentle river, and as a symbolic expression
of the ultimate round of grooming expansion and refinement at
Tremblant, you can go there today and experience this milestone
of seasonal attainment and absolutely gorgeous (^)Precambrian
Laurentian scenery.

In the initial seasonal phases of this trails opening, there is no
snowmaking support in this zone, so it has to be left un-groomed
and it quickly becomes a knee-busting, Experts only VW Bug-sized
mogul line. When there is sufficient natural snowfall to allow grooming
to occur, it comes alive for a X 10 greater population of mixed skill
levels including anyone who can do a parallel-style turning sequence.
This is exactly when the gently rolling topography immediately
becomes apparent as the basis for the excellent technical merit of
it’s pure, true, straight and accurate fall-line that back in 1948 was
cut as a Poma-lift line . For today, that makes it quite nearly perfect.

(#) Please forgive our enthusiasm for what is statistically such a
small trail square area, but in that sense we want to talk about
proportion because skiing is not the only recreational sport where
very small components can have unusually large significance within
the overall context of the sport. Take Golf for example. Compare the
size of a golf ball to the size of the course. It may not be quite the right
analogy, but you may be able to see the point. Maybe a better scale
would be to compare the size of the greens to the course, but either way
the point still remains that something of very small relative size can have
a profound implication for the entire concept.

Weather Notes:

“The Winter That Just Won’t Quit.”

Considering there’s not a single thing we can
about the weather that happens, all we can say
is that generally, the very best snow is like champagne...
“Serve Well Chilled”. Considering also that it’s an
exclusively winter sport, we'd much rather it be a few
degrees too cool than a few degrees too warm.

Conditions Notes:

Everything within the open groomed list is very fine to excellent.
Technical edge-set skills are very useful as the top layers are
over a very firm base. This sensitivity to the firm base, as well as
the ability to apply turning force smoothly, gradually, without
jerky or sudden initiations is not only most effective, but as
elements of a refined personal skill set, makes it a very satisfying
experience to be able to extract the maximum lateral grip without
exceeding it.

Basically, if your technique is refined enough, you can easily ride within
the edge of grip and control, extracting the the maximum performance
available, without sliding off your carved descent line.

There are very small icy bits generated by some combinations
of traffic and wind exposure factors but in relation to the vast
expanses of superb smoothness with a wonderfully blended
composition of new snowfall and the pre-existing integrated
granular layers, they are insignificant. Roughly 94.378% of people
who complain about icy bits can not remember how long ago
it was that they had a Ski/Board tune-up when you ask them
as a followup to their comments. In our opinion, this shows
a disturbing lack of understanding for the importance of the
most basic form of gear maintenance. Don’t be those persons...

The Sous Bois/Hors Piste and Un-Groomed continue to be
the categories that are still effected by the recent freezing
rain episode and the problem there in some zones is that
there is a thin layer of ice sheet over the snowpack that you
break through because it is not capable of supporting a skiers
weight in downward turning force, but when you want to unweight
in the upward phase of turning motion to execute the remainder
of the turning rotation, that same sheet of ice is just strong
enough to keep your ski tips from breaking through it upwards.
The net result is that if you can’t safely complete turns, in the
Sous Bois, i.e., the bush, sooner or later, and mostly sooner,
you may “encounter” trees.

The summary is in two parts. A) that the current excellence is in
the almost seamless quality of the entire skill level range of the
freshly groomed array, and B) that it may take more time and either
heat or a big dump of snowfall to assimilate or mitigate adverse
factors elsewhere.

Le Tunnel is best suited to those who have mastered “parallel” style
turns that they can execute in rapid, deliberate, alternating directional
sequence. It’s kind of like doing a World Cup mogul course, without the
bone-crunching bumps. The snow and the base here are quite nearly
perfectly smooth and predictable. We would not hesitate to supervise
a confident Intermediate with good “Hockey Stop” ability on the groomed
line of this trail right now. Together with the freshly falling snow, it
could be truly extraordinary today.

The snow squall portion of today was physically impossible
for photography, it was soooo thick and fast. However... there
was a break in the weather at least sunny-wise, but that
included some very high wind gust conditions as the active
system rolled through the region.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
