T360 Sunset Apres Ski Edit Under Construct @ 6:17 P.M.
Here Is A Key Insight Into Both Today’s Quality
As Well As The Additional Refinement We Expect
For Tomorrow.
3.22.22.Nord.North.Expo.Quad.Peak.Groomer.Ready.For.Apres.Ski.Action.e.jpg
Both the groomed refinement and all day quality we projected for today
occurred almost exactly the way we thought it would. Conditions today
were a noticeable step up, as we would always forecast on days sequentially
following the type of adverse warm/wet weather we had 2 days ago.
This incremental escalation applies to the square area covered, as
well as the increase of consistent depths of loose skiable top layers,
so if you project that again for tomorrow, it should be pretty obvious
that we can expect some really fine Skiing/Boarding when the sun comes
up in about 12 hours. As a major functional bonus, it’s supposed to be
warmer still, and with only a fraction of the wind that was such a forceful
element today.
The term “incremental” also applies to reductions in icy bits that are
diminishing with successive grooming night-shifts that follow any
significant individual heat events. This is particularly evident when
the temps at Mountain elevations remain in 24hr. Sub-Zero C ranges,
even it’s only by single digit values.

A Late March, Authentic Winter Day.
The thing that’s going to make it seem very Winter-like, is the wind.
3.21.22.Sud.South.Summit.McCulloch.Ent.Views.Over.Lac.T.d.jpg
The wind has a long way to build up force and as you crest the
Summit level trail entrances, you are going to be reminded exactly
which garment seals or overlaps you did not get properly closed.
In terms of the Skiing experience, atmospherically wise, the brisk
edge will certainly be an excellent refresher of all those recently
past winter sensations and anyone who thought the heat of a
couple of days ago was going to be a premature end to “Cool”,
will be taught an “Anything Is Possible” lesson about March.

Excellence... The Evidence Speaks For Itself.

Weather Notes:
The peak wind gust velocity forecast is quite likely to be
exceeded at Summit elevations, so even though the ambient
air temp at Resort base levels could make it to Zero C, up
on the typically cooler by -4C, trails, the wind chill values
could generate equivalents in the -10/-15 C range, so you
will want to have layers.

Conditions Notes:
We actually expect the conditions in the Groomed trail array to
be more consistent on an all-day basis as it is day-2 of refinements
after the warm-to-cold consolidation of yesterday that occurred
between the softness of first tracks and the firmness of last run.
If anything, going from a cool morning as we have now, and getting
a 6 degree C rise still within minus C values, we think it’s going to
be a potentially superb day of very easy winter performance across all
skill levels that should feature great natural speed as a primary quality.
The Devils River pic. above was an example of going from early soft
and easy to later firm and mogul’d challenge. Today may be the
opposite temp-wise except that we start from groomed smooth to
begin with, so if there are any moguls along the way, under rising
temps they should still be easy with the extra cushion of another
night-shift of groomed depth added.
In the Sous Bois/Hors Piste/Un-Groomed groups, even though
there have been a few hot ’n wet days since our last sample
of the snowpack, we can tell you for a fact that there are still
excellent depth reserves.
3.21.22.Nord.North.Lowell.Thomas.Sector.Banzai.Trail.Side.Proof.Of Snow.c.jpg
In our opinion this “Proof Of Snow” above is the basis for
the quick restoration of open trails/zones within the Sous
Bois/Bush and Un-Groomed group following the recent heat.
With 34 trails on “Progressive” i.e., gradual opening that are
pending Ski Patrol certifications, it is possible the Official
open trail list could change during the day, maybe more than
once.
